1.

What was the biggest challenge you faced while planning the lesson?

- The most difficult part about planning the lesson was trying to plan out what possible verbal cues and
hand gestures would work best overall when giving the lesson. I found it helpful to have some in mind, it
definitely seems to be the case that a big part of teaching is determined within the classroom while
working with a pre-determined plan.
2. What was the biggest challenge you faced while teaching the lesson?
- While teaching the lesson the most difficult part was making sure that my large class understood my
approach toward teaching. I found that going around the tables while checking our formative assessment,
I realized some students did not really understand what I taught, although it seemed like it. Formative
assessment is definitely important!
3.

What did you rely on the most during your instruction to overcome these challenges?

-I felt that I personally relied a lot on physical cues when asking questions to my students in order to
assist their understanding of another language. In addition, when teaching the content, I relied mostly on
the board where I was able to give the class visuals and circle parts that I was discussing as I went along,
4.

Was communication with your students easier or more difficult than you originally thought?

-Communication with my students was harder than I thought. However, I feel like having various cues
and gestures assisted their understanding. Finding universal modes of communication (using images,
gestures, etc.) helps break down the language barrier.
5.

Do you feel you used co-teaching as effectively as you could have?

I feel as though I accidentally took over the board while co-teaching due to time constraints. I knew what
I was thinking and what I wanted to get across, so I stepped in. Co-teaching, requires a lot of
communication, so it was difficult to do so when having to only speak to each other in the chosen
language.
6.

Do you feel you achieved your objective? How can you be sure you did or didnt?

Overall, my group achieved its objective. However, we discovered that there were definitely some
students that did not completely grasp the concept/task at hand, so it was definitely important to have that
formative assessment at the end of class.
7.

As a student of other groups lessons, what was the biggest challenge you faced?

As a student, the biggest challenge I faced was trying to remember the sign language signs for each color.
I am not used to relating various hand motions with words in place of sounds, so it would take longer for
me to catch on.
8.

As a student, what did you rely on most to comprehend what was being taught?

As a student, I relied mostly on visual cues in order to understand what words related to what concepts
during the lesson.
