2) What are the advantages of using VLAN?

ANS : The Advantages Of Using VLAN Are :
a) Higher performance and reduced latency.
b) Users may work on sensitive information which should not be seen by other users.
c) VLAN Removes the physical boundary.
d) When users on a VLAN move to a new physical location but continue to perform the
same job function, the end-stations of those users do not need to be reconfigured.

3) What

is mac address and why it is required?

ANS : MAC Address :

MAC stands for Media Access Control. The MAC address is globally unique which
means that no two devices in the world will share a MAC addresses.

Why It Is Required :
One common method used to secure wireless routers is to add a list of all the MAC
addresses of all devices that should have access to the routers network. If a

devices MAC address is not on that list, then it is not allowed to access the Internet
through that router.

4) What

is ARP timeout?

ANS : ARP Timeout :

The default timeout timer for is 4 hours for Cisco devices, this means that a
dynamic ARP entry will remain for 4 hours in the cache table before the router
attempt to refresh the entry. If the entry is no longer needed it will be removed .

What do switches do if the source and destination mac-address on

a frame is the same?

ANS :A network switch is a computer networking device that connects devices together on a
computer network,by using packet switching to receive, process and forward data to the
destination device.
If the outgoing interface is the same as the interface in with the frame was received, the switch
filters the frame, meaning that the switch simply ignores the frame and does not forward it.

Describe the self learning process of switch.

ANS : A switch begins learning the local MAC addresses as soon as it is connected
to other devices or to a network. This learning capability makes switches easy to

use on a network.There are six interface connected with six host. Suppose A send a
file to host B. A is a source and B is a Destination. Host A send a request to the
switch for the MAC address of the host B. After receiving the request from the
switch host B reply that I have IP address and send the MAC address in a single link
to the host A. Than host A send a data file host B. This is the self learning process
of switch.
