occupancy system that
performs within a wide
range of rail applications,

designed to the highest

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Designed to the highest industry safety standards, SCA3 system provides reliable track
occupancy through train wheel detection and counting of number of train axles with sensors
using magnetic field technology.
It is configurable for all applications for track occupancy between stations, in station and
level crossing areas for Passengers, Urban and Mining/Freight lines.
The system is composed of an Axle Counter Unit (ACU) in a wayside enclosure and one or
more Axle Detection Points (ADP) located at the boundaries of the track sections.

Flexibility and Versatility

SCA3 is a cost effective solution thanks to a

simple, modular and flexible architecture,
and can save up to 20% of LCC compared
with competitive products and up to 25%
compared with track circuit solutions.

The SCA3 can be configured for point-topoint or multi-point track sections, and can
be interfaced with signaling equipment
though occupancy relays (Safe Output
24Vdc) or Ethernet communication.

Remote diagnostic is available and the

maintenance required is as little as 10
minutes per year per Detection Point.

Its FDT functionality supports Fail Safe Data

Transmission with high Vital I/O capabilities
(max 62 Input, 32 Outputs per evaluator), via
fiber optics (max distance 40Km) allowing
cabling reduction and therefore savings.

Availability and Reliability

Reduced train delays due to false occupancy
(miscount error) with immunity to traction
return currents, EMC and EMI/disturbance
and to magnetic brakes.

SCA3 can be configured to meet a vast array

of reset procedures and operational rules.
