Description
1. Flight compartment
The flight compartment is found in zone 210. It contains seats for the pilot and co-pilot, and if
required, a removable observer seat. The compartment finished with moulded panels on the ceiling
and sidewalls, with carpet covering the floor. A door is installed between the flight compartment and
the passenger compartment. The flight crew emergency exit is found in the flight compartment
ceiling.
2. Passenger compartment
The passenger compartment extends between zones 220 to 260. Passenger seats are installed in a
single row on the left-hand (LH) side and a double row on the right-hand (RH) side of the aircraft.
The interior finish comprises moulded panels for the ceiling and sidewall panels, with carpet for the
floor and kick panels. The area between the interior panels and the aircraft fuselage is insulated with
aluminum covered glass-wool blankets.
Baggage bins, for the stowage of passenger hand-baggage, are supplied over the double seats. Cove
panels are installed along each side of the passenger compartment. The cove panels hold fluorescent
lights, passenger service units and emergency oxygen outlets.
In the forward area of the passenger compartment, and dependent on customer options, it is possible
to install a RH galley, LH galley or a LH stowage compartment.
A lavatory compartment can either be installed at the forward or aft end of the passenger
compartment.
3. Cargo compartment
The cargo compartment is found aft of the passenger compartment in zone 270. The aft bulkhead or

FLIGHT / PASSENGER COMPARTMENTS

Flight compartment seats:
1. Flight crew seats
The pilot's and copilot's seats are made almost the same. The tracklock handle and the heightlock
control are found on the inboard side of each seat; the recline control on the outboard.
Each seat is made of a lightweight construction and the full assembly includes two basic structures:
-The upper structure, with all the controls necessary to adjust the seat
-The base structure which contains the positive track-lock mechanism.
The seat base is made of a light-alloy box structure with two LH and two RH claw plate and roller
assemblies. These attach the seat base to the floor tracks and prevent lateral movement of the seat.
There are rollers in each claw plate assembly. These help the seat to move easily when it is adjusted
for a fore and aft position. A positive track-lock mechanism prevents a fore and aft movement of the
seat on the floor tracks. And two tension springs give the necessary spring loading for the lock
mechanism.
The upper seat is made of a lightweight construction. It consists of light alloy panels held together
with rivets. The mechanism and controls for the adjustment of seat height and recline are found in
the seat structure.
The armrests have pads and each can be adjusted. The armrests can be folded back towards the seat
spine when not used.
The inertia reel of the restraint system is installed in the rear of the seat spine and the lap straps are
attached to the seat pan.

2. Observer Seat
Different types of observer seat are installed, as follows:
TYPE 1 (FOR A/C 003 - 048)
This type has a seat back and a seat cushion, in two parts. When it is necessary, the seat can be put in
a stowage position in the cargo compartment.
TYPE 2 (FOR A/C 049 - 999)
This type is usually kept in a vertical position, against the cockpit-entrance LH wall. When used, it is
folded down and locked on to the opposite RH wall. The back of the can be folded.

3. Flight Attendant Seats

The attendant seat is installed on the LH galley adjacent to the passenger/crew door. The seat
consists of an aluminum frame with pre-formed shrouds on all sides. The attendant seat is attached
to the LH galley through a hinge. Support plates, also attached to the galley, hold the seat in position
when correctly installed.
A mechanism is installed to lock the seat onto the galley. A lever on the RH side of the seat, when
pressed, disengages a bar from two hooks attached to the galley. This permits the seat to move
outwards on the hinge, to give access to the entrance stairs. To stop damage to the hinge, the
movement of the seat is controlled by a cord, attached to the galley.
Head, back and seat cushions are supplied. These are fire resistant and are covered with fabric. The
seat also has a safety harness with shoulder and lap seat belts.
The seat base is sprung and when not in use, automatically folds up to permit access through the
passenger door entrance.
4. Passenger seats
Single seats are installed on the LH side and double seats are installed on the RH side of the
passenger compartment.
The passenger seats are attached to the seat-track rails and can be adjusted forward or backwards in
increments of 1.0 in (25.4mm). Seat-track covers are installed on the seat-track rails between each
passenger seat.
Each seat has a main aluminum frame with a seat back, leg assembly, armrests and tables. Under the
seat pan, provision is made for the stowage of a passenger life-jacket.
Some seats can recline. The recline mechanism is controlled by a hydraulic unit attached to the main
frame of the seat. Some seat backs can also move forward controlled by friction clutches. The seat
will move forward when a force of 25-30 lb is applied to top of the seat back.
NOTE: Passenger seats that recline are not installed immediately in front of the emergency exits.
Passenger seats adjacent to the emergency exits do not have seat backs that move forward and also
have solid seat pans.
Tables are installed on the back of each seat. The table is held in the stowed position by a turnbutton. When the turn-button is released, the table, held by two hinges, moves down and can be used
by the passenger behind. More tables are stowed behind the RH galley. These tables attach to the
arm rests of the front seats.
Each seat has a quick-release lap safety harness. This is adjustable for safety and passenger comfort.
On the back of each seat is a pamphlet pocket attached by hook and loop fastener. A baggage
restraint is installed under the seats and is attached to the front seat legs.

5. The overhead stowage bins

The overhead stowage bins are installed above the double passenger seats on the RH side of the
passenger compartment. A bin door is installed to the front of the overhead stowage bin structure.
The overhead stowage bin structure and the overhead stowage bin door have a decorative covering.
The overhead stowage bins are attached to the aircraft structure through support brackets installed on
the overhead stowage bin structure. Isolators are installed between the support brackets and the
aircraft structure to reduce vibration. When the stowage bins are installed, spacers keep an equal
distance between each bin.
On the inboard edge of the overhead stowage bin roof panel there are two extrusions. One extrusion
installed on top of the roof panel holds the RH edge of the headliner panels in position. The other
extrusion is installed under the roof panel and can be used to hold fluorescent lights (Ref. 33-21-00)
in position for the headliner panels.
Some overhead stowage bins have a secondary compartment. This contains active noise control
(ANC) equipment (Ref. 23-35-00). The ANC equipment includes loudspeaker/power amplifier
assemblies and are fully sealed from contents of the overhead stowage bin. Speaker grilles can be
installed to the front or under the stowage bin. Access to the ANC equipment is through a hatch
cover, attached by mechanical fasteners, to the ANC compartment side panel.
AFTER SB23-028 AND FROM A/C 365 IN PRODUCTION
After incorporation of this mod, ANC loud speakers/power amplifiers are removed from the
overhead stowage bins and are not installed in production.
The stowage bin door is held in the closed position by a latch. Placards installed in the stowage bins
give the maximum load permitted in each bin. When the latch is released the bin door opens up and
is controlled by the spring struts.
The bin door latch-handle has a red mark on the side. If the red mark can be seen when the bin door
is in the closed position, the door is not correctly aligned.
On some configurations a long tapered bin or a short tapered bin may be installed. The tapered bins
are attached to the number one stowage bin and the RH galley/fwd lavatory compartment. The
tapered bin door is held in the closed position by a latch and opens down. Items of safety equipment
or crew equipment are stowed in the tapered bin. The contents of the bin are identified by a placard
on the tapered bin door.
