VCD bypass switch.

Purpose of LED.
To reset the VCD.
VCD 5 V power supply OK
All three LEDs
should glow when
VCD 12 V power supply OK
VCD is ON.
VCD 110 V power supply OK
It will glow when QVCD wedge in denerzise
condition.
It will glow when SA-9 applies.
It will glow when A-9 applies.
It will glow when cab-2 VCD ACK press.
It will glow when cab-2 BL is ON.
It will glow when cab-1 or 2 horn blowing.
It will glow when cab-1 BL is ON.
This signal is currently not used.
It will glow when sander is operate.
It will glow during Prog./ Reg.
It will glow when MP is on N.
It will glow when cab-1 VCD ACK press.
It will glow when VCD bypass switch is ON.
It will glow when supply is available on VCD bypass
switch.
To switch Off the VCD.

Purpose of LEDs & buzzer provided on VCD display panel.

QVCD Relay

Setting of pressure switches: 1. A-9 pressure switch. Cut in = 4.5 kg/cm2, cut out = 4.8 kg/cm2 (N/C I/L used).
2. SA-9 pressure switch. Cut in = 1.5 kg/cm2, cut out = 1.0 kg/cm2 (N/O I/L used).
3. Horn pressure switch. Cut in = 4.0 kg/cm2, cut out = 3.5 kg/cm2 (N/O I/L used).

How to check VCD in service: -VCD will ON when ever locomotive


battery is ON. On VCD main unit 110V, 12V & 5V three LED will glow.
& After BL key is locked in BL box, two LED power ON & system OK
will glow after few seconds. That is the indication of VCD in service

VCD test brake: -VCD applies test brake through IP valve whenever BL is
Unlock by BL key. IP valve cock must be open condition.

How to check Vigilance mode: - VCD will go in vigilance mode whenever


MP on N (ones) & both brakes (A-9 or SA-9) are released condition. After
passing 60 second a flash LED & buzzer will come. That is the indication of
vigilance mode. During this mode VCD required Acknowledgement with in
60 second or during flash LED & buzzer sound (8+8 second) i.e. to be
acknowledge with in 76 (60+8+8) second.
The any of the following methods are used to acknowledge the VCD.

How to check Sleep Mode: - VCD will go in sleep mode / suppuration
mode whenever brakes applied through A-9 or SA-9. During this mode No
need to acknowledge the VCD. No flash or buzzer sound will come.

Note: - VCD should be in sleep mode also when BL is not selected.


1. Check sleep mode by SA-9.
2. Check sleep mode by A-9.
Check the penalty brake from both cab after pressing ACK push button
continuously at least 60 second.

Should be OK.

Check the penalty brake with regression from both cabs after expiry of
buzzer sound (after 60+8+8 sec.)

6.

Check penalty brake releasing: - After extinguish of flash LED on display


unit, MP to be kept on 0 & press any ACK push button of working cab,
brakes should be release.

7.

Check releasing of brakes coming through System fault or ACK


pressing cont. more than 60 sec: - Brakes will be release after expiry of 30
second & by keeping MP on 0 & press any ACK push button of working
cab, brakes should be release.
Note: - No flash LED will glow during this period.

VCD equipped in BSL locomotives.

Operating Instruction of VCD


Dont Do:- 1. Dont close IP Valve Cock.

2. Dont wedge Q51 relay.


3. Dont press ACK push button continuously 60 second otherwise brakes will come
through IP valve with regression.

Do:- 1.

When BL key is inserted then VCD applied a test brake through IP valve. So that ensure
that IP valve Cock is in open condition. Two LEDs (Power On & System OK) will
glow on display panel to indicate VCD in service.

If brakes applied through A-9 or SA-9, then no need to acknowledge the VCD.

3.

VCD to be acknowledged with in 60 sec. or during flash LED & buzzer sound (8 + 8
sec.) by the any following methods.
a. By any ACK push button or.
b. Operate any horn switch or.
c. Operate sanders or.
d. Brakes applied through A-9 or SA-9 or.
e. Notches up/down.

If VCD is not Acknowledge with in the above period then VCD will apply the penalty
brakes through IP valve.

5.

Procedure to release the brakes: - After extinguish of flash LED on display unit, MP to
be Kept on 0 & press ACK push button.

6.

If VCD gives erratic behavior then VCD to be isolated by switching Off the VCD after
breaking the seal. VCD is mounted above Hand Brake in TPN panel in WAG-5 and on
cab 1 Asst. loco pilot side desk in WAP-4 locomotive. Entry to be made in log book.

Note: - Some LEDs are provided on VCD main unit for indication of signals available of concern
inputs. Hence it is helpful to trouble shoot the defects.

Setting of pressure switches: Qty.


1. A-9 pressure switch. Cut in = 4.5 kg/cm2, cut out = 4.8 kg/cm2 (N/C I/L used).
(Common for both cabs).

2. SA-9 pressure switch. Cut in = 1.5 kg/cm2, cut out = 1.0 kg/cm2 (N/O I/L used).
(Common for both cabs).

3. Horn pressure switch. Cut in = 4.0 kg/cm2, cut out = 3.5 kg/cm2 (N/O I/L used).
