What are Platelets / Thrombocytes?

Platelets are small colorless disc-shaped cell fragments without a nucleus, found in large numbers in the
blood. These tiny blood cells help form clots to stop bleeding.

Where are Platelets produced?

Platelets are produced from bone marrow cells called megakaryocytes.

What are the normal counts of platelets?

The normal platelet count is between 150,000 to 400,000 platelets per microliter (mcL)

What is thrombocytopenia?
Thrombocytopenia (thrombopenia) refers to a low platelet count below 150,000 mcL.
If platelet count is below 50,000 mcL, it increase the risk of bleeding

What are platelets responsible for?

Whenever injury occurs, signals are sent through the bloodstream notifying cells of the trauma. Platelets in
the blood release chemicals that notify other platelets nearby to become activated, or 'sticky.' Once activated,
platelets change shape by growing small tentacles. This helps them to stick together and stop oozing/
bleeding.

Why platelet counts go down in infections?

During an infection, antibody virus complexes are released in the body. Platelets contain receptors for
several antibody virus complexes. These antibody virus complexes get attached to platelet receptors.
Platelets containing this complexes is destroyed in the spleen and liver.

What are the other conditions where platelet counts go down?

There are several other diseases where platelet counts significantly go down. Either there would be
destruction of platelets or decreased formation of platelets. Bone marrow failure or suppression (from
medication, chemotherapy or radiation), bacterial or viral infections and Liver cirrhosis are some other

conditions where platelet counts go down.

Minmin Pb is indicated in Thrombocytopenia secondary to Viral infections, Hepatitis (A, B, C), Dengue fever,
Malaria, Enteric fever, Bacterial infections, ICU infections, Drug induced chemotherapy and radiation. Minmin
Pb helps to boost the platelets in such conditions. There is a significant increase in mean platelet count
observed 40 hours since the first dose of Minmin Pb.

What are the precautions that should be taken during Minmin Pb treatment?
Minmin Pb (Carica papaya leaf extract) may cause low blood glucose levels. Close monitoring is required of
diabetes mellitus patients taking oral hypoglycemic agents and Carica papaya leaf extract. Carica papaya leaf
extract should be used cautiously in patients taking blood thinning medication such as aspirin / warfarin.
Carica papaya leaf extract is not recommended in pregnancy and patients who are hypersensitive to its
composition.

Abdominal pain, Heartburn and Dyspepsia.

How does Minmin Pb (Carica papaya leaf extract) increases platelet count?
Enhances Platelet production: Carica papaya leaf is a source of complex biochemical constituents that
helps boost the number of platelets by stimulating the bone marrow (a production house of platelets).
Gene Expression: Carica papaya leaf extract stimulates ALOX 12 (Arachidonate 12-lipoxygenase) gene
activity by 15 fold within 3 days. The PTAFR (Platelet Activating Factor Receptor) gene which is known to be
responsible for increased platelet production and aggregation is expressed by 13.42 folds.
Prevents Platelet destruction: Carica papaya leaf also prevents the destruction of platelet as it possesses
membrane stabilizing properties and protects blood cells against stress-induced destruction.
Carica papaya leaf extract also has a direct inhibitory action on Dengue virus, malaria plasmodium and other
viruses. Carica papaya leaf extract protects the body from harmful oxidants during these infections.
Minmin Pb (Carica papaya leaf extract) increases the WBC counts (White Blood Cells - fighting cells of your
body) & bone marrow cells, thereby boosts the bodys immunity.
