INDUSTRIAL ROPE ACCESS

globalREMOTE
integrated access solutions
Strategically based in Chennai, with operations throughout South East Asia,
India, and the Middle East, we offer a comprehensive Inspection, Maintenance
and Repair (IMR) programme, utilising industry best practice rope access
systems, enabling efficient and cost effective access to all difficult to access
structures and facilities.

INDUSTRIAL ROPE ACCESS

- IRATA

Industrial Rope Access Trade Association

IRATA is an internationally recognised trade association which was

formed in the late 1980s by a number of leading rope access
companies in the UK

IRATAs principle aim is to ensure that work is conducted in a safe

and high quality manner

Since its inception IRATA has been instrumental in developing

industry standards and guidelines that have been adopted by
numerous governments worldwide

IRATA members remain the world leaders in upholding exemplary

safety statistics, unrivaled in the industry

For more information, please reference the IRATA web site: www.irata.org

INDUSTRIAL HEIGHT SAFETY

Fall from height remain the largest single cause of occupational
fatalities in industry globally

Over 90% of these accidents can be prevented with appropriate

training, site management, and PPE
The protection, minimisation and elimination of falls from height
remains our key objective and continues to gain prominence in the
development of safety guidelines and occupational health and
related legislation worldwide

Current Indian legislation on height safety remains limited

A comprehensive approach to height safety is required

.working to ensure ZERO incidents of falls from

height

INDUSTRIAL ROPE ACCESS

- BENEFITS

COST EFFECTIVE
Minimal personnel / equipment; rapid completion; reduced downtime
SAFE
Impeccable safety record worldwide
VERSATILE
Custom solutions; variety of applications; access problems solved quickly;
difficult structures accessed easily

EFFICIENT
Light weight portable equipment; rapid installation and removal of systems;
minimal personnel.
MINIMAL DISRUPTION
Concurrent works, third parties and pedestrian traffic is not unduly effected

INDUSTRIAL ROPE ACCESS AND THE WIND INDUSTRY

Industrial rope access is widely used in North
America and Europe as a work site access
method. It offers exceptionally safe, cost
effective, and time efficient solutions for the
developing Asian wind energy sector in the
following disciplines:
-

Construction
Warranty and compliance inspection
Routine inspection and survey
Maintenance
Repair
Access, rescue and evacuation training

INDUSTRIAL ROPE ACCESS

- BENIFITS

Industrial rope access is an ideal

system suited to the demands
faced in the wind industry by
complex and remote infrastructure
A typical inspection or maintenance
project utilising rope access requires
very little equipment, can be hand
carried, and requires no heavy
machinery or additional operators

INDUSTRIAL ROPE ACCESS

- BENEFITS

Industrial Rope Access provides a safer and more versatile work

site access alternative to traditional methods such as crane
baskets, scaffolding, and gondolas

INDUSTRIAL ROPE ACCESS

- BENEFITS

Rope access technicians are also skilled in the specific trades

required for the work scope. The same staff access the structure
AND carry out the works, therefore reducing staff numbers

INDUSTRIAL ROPE ACCESS

- SYSTEMS COMPARISON

- Comparison of crane and rope access for blade inspection project

INDUSTRIAL ROPE ACCESS

- SYSTEMS COMPARISON

- Comparison of crane and rope access for blade inspection project

Crane (total 5 staff)

Rope Access (total 2 staff)

3 employees from crane company. 2 crane staff only

used for rigging and de-rigging crane. During
inspection works they do not work

2 rope technicians with 3 sports bags of equipment

Set up and de-rigging completed in 2 hours

1 inspector, 1 technician to operate turbine

2 rope technicians as inspectors and operate turbine

Speeds up inspection process

Crane must be hired in advance. If the work is not

possible due to weather or access issues, crane fee
is due regardless

If work is not possible due to weather conditions etc,

the technicians can do other work. (Rope access work
can be done in higher winds than crane work)

For offshore turbines, the crane must be substituted

by a Jack Up" vessel. This adds significant cost

Rope access can be practiced both onshore and

offshore

This system of inspection will typically take

several days

A rope access inspection will typically be

completed in one to two days

Use of cranes has a poor safety record due to

unstable footings, excessive movement of man
baskets etc
Accessing remote or difficult terrain and offshore
facilities remains a significant problem

No accident recorded using rope access on wind

turbines
No significant access issues for wind turbines faced
by rope access. All areas are accessible

INDUSTRIAL ROPE ACCESS

- BLADE SERVICES

Turbine blades are recognized as a critical and

somewhat fragile component of the turbine
Regular maintenance and inspection of blades
should remain a focus for all asset managers
Maintenance has often been neglected due to
perceived access difficulties
Today, rope access remains the fastest and
most cost effective method for inspecting and
cleaning turbine blades, guaranteeing
minimum down time of the turbine.
Regular inspection and maintenance of
blades increases turbine efficiency and
yields, improves blade life cycle, and helps to
prevent costly breakdowns.

INDUSTRIAL ROPE ACCESS

- BLADE SERVICES

NDT inspection

Laminate and coating repairs

Cleaning
Installation and repair of blade protection and aerodynamic systems
(leading edge tape, stall strips, vortex generators, etc)

INDUSTRIAL ROPE ACCESS

- TOWER SERVICES

Construction assembly support

Internal and external NDT inspection
Internal and external cleaning
Coating repair
Tower flange sealing

Inspection and installation of lightning

protection systems

landing bolts.

INDUSTRIAL ROPE ACCESS

- FALL PROTECTION

Industrial rope access is an ideal method for

the installation and inspection of:
- internal safe-way systems (ladder safe etc)
- external safe-way systems
- nacelle roof anchors
- rescue and evacuation systems

INDUSTRIAL ROPE ACCESS

- RESCUE & EVAC TRAINING

Industrial rope access often plays a critical

role is assisted rescue and evacuation
The IRATA industrial rope systems and
protocols are an invaluable tool for training:
- Tower rescue (internal and external)
- Nacelle rescue (internal and external)
- Confined space rescue
- Evacuation techniques
