CAUTION: DO NOT OPERATE THE EMDP FOR MORE THAN TWO

TANK CONTAINS LESS THAN 250 GALLONS (1675 POUNDS/760
KILOGRAMS) OF
FUEL. YOU MUST LET THE RESERVOIR TEMPERATURE
DECREASE TO AMBIENT
TEMPERATURE BEFORE YOU OPERATE THE PUMP AGAIN.

(1) Engine
A. Top off engine oil on both No. 1 and No. 2 engines after 5 minutes from the engine
shut down, but not greater than 30 minutes then record consumption

B. Check engine cowling, inlet cowls, nose domes and visible fan blades for obvious
damage. Check access panels and blowout panels for condition and security.
Also check for open latches and obvious signs of fuel and hydraulic leaks.

A. Check nose and main landing gear tires, wheels and brakes for obvious
damage.

MAIN GEAR WHEEL AND TIRE - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION


Wrench - Torque 0 to 350 ft-lbs (0 to 474.53 N_m)
While you turn the wheel, tighten the axle nut to 300 pound-feet lube torque.
Loosen the nut to near zero torque.
While you turn the wheel, tighten axle nut to 150 ft-lb (203 N_m) in one
continuous turn of the
axle nut.

When you replace a nose wheel and tire assembly, you can replace the wheel and tire
assembly on
the other side. Differences in the diameter between the new and worn tires can
contribute vibration
to the nose landing gear. You can decrease this if you install the tires that have equal
pressure,
nearly the same inflated diameters, and matching supplier part numbers.

Torque Wrench, 250 ft-lb (339 N_m).


While you turn the wheel, tighten the axle nut to 80 ft-lb (108 N_m) to 100 ft-lb (136 N_m)
3) While you turn the wheel, tighten the nut to 30 ft-lb (41 N_m).

An amber LE FLAPS TRANSIT light shows for these


conditions:
- The LE devices are in transit
- A LE device position is in disagreement with the TE
flaps position
- TE flaps disagreement during alternate flaps
operation until the TE flaps are at the 10
position.
The light is on the P2 panel.
A green LE FLAPS EXT light shows if the LE devices are
in the extended or full extended positions. The light
is on the P2 panel.
The LE devices annunciator panel shows position of each
LE device. The panel is on the P5 aft overhead panel.
If the airplane is near a stall condition, the autoslat
function causes the LE slats to move from the extend
position to the full extend position. If this function
is not available, the AUTOSLAT FAIL light shows on the
flight controls panel.
Autoslat Operation
During an autoslat extension the leading edge flap/slat
indication module inhibits the LE FLAPS TRANSIT light.
The stall management computers (SMCs) send an autoslat

signal to the module when the airplane is near a stall


condition. When this occurs, the module gives a 13second
time delay to the LE
FLAPS TRANSIT light. This
causes the LE FLAPS TRANSIT light to not show during
autoslat extension of the LE slats.
When the SMCs remove the autoslat command, the 13second
time delay becomes active
again. This causes the
LE FLAPS TRANSIT light to not show during retraction of
the LE slats after an autoslat extension.

OBEY THESE PRECAUTIONS.


(1) Start the two engines (PAGEBLOCK 71-00-00/201).
(a) Use the fuel quantity listed in this task.

(2) Set the engines to idle power (approximately 550 - 950 pounds per hour, 250 - 430
kilograms per
hour).

(3) Permit the engines to operate at idle power with boost pumps on for a minimum of two
minutes.
(This time is referred to as "the warm-up period").
NOTE: With ambient conditions of extreme cold, it can be necessary to permit the engine

CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE SAME QUANTITY OF FUEL INTO THE
NO. 1 TANK AND
THE NO. 2 TANK. THE AIRPLANE WILL NOT FLY CORRECTLY AND DAMAGE TO
THE
WINGS CAN OCCUR.
(1) Put approximately the same quantity of fuel in the No. 1 tank and the No. 2 tank (Figure
302).

(2) If the center tank contains more than 1,000 pounds (453 kilograms) of fuel, you must
fill the No. 1
tank and the No. 2 tank fully.
NOTE: This requirement is applicable to the fuel configuration for flight. Any quantity of
fuel
can be added to the center tank or transferred to the center tank from the No. 1 or No. 2
tank for ground maintenance (PAGEBLOCK 28-23-00/201).

(3) If the No. 1 tank and the No. 2 tank are scheduled to be filled fully, it is not necessary to
put a
specified quantity of fuel in the center tank.

(4) You can put fuel into all of the tanks at the same time or you can put fuel into each of
the tanks in
a sequence (Table 301).

CAUTION: DO NOT USE MORE THAN 55 PSI FUEL PRESSURE AT THE FUELING
NOZZLE. IF YOU
USE MORE THAN 55 PSI FUEL PRESSURE, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE
FUELING SYSTEM COMPONENTS.
