Photograms

NAME:

Using objects collected from home, create two prints that explore transparency, opacity, movement, and xray effect. The objects should hold some meaning to you personally. Use the objects, and the principles of
design to help you set up these explorations.

Movement - combining elements to direct the viewers eye or create a look of action
Contrast - difference between elements to create a more dynamic composition
Repetition - combining elements again and again to create a visual rhythm or beat (variations exist)
Pattern - structural repetition combining elements in an organize and repeated manner (the same)
Emphasis - elements used to create visual dominance or a focal point
Balance - arrangement of elements to create a feeling of stability

Pick your favorite exploration and create a series of 3 Photograms that connect visually or thematically. These
prints should work together as a series but also on their own as individual compositions.

The Criteria
Idea Development:
You created two photograms that explored transparency, opacity, movement, and x-ray effect.
You created lists/sketches/brainstorms for your photogram series using one of your explorations as a
starting point
Design:
Your photograms make use of the Principles of Design in an interesting way.
Your photograms connect either visually or thematically in an interesting way.
All space is activated in a way that makes sense to your series (no dead space).
Personal Choices:
You used objects that were meaningful to you.
You created a series based on an idea/concept unique to you and your explorations.
You created compositions that related to your chosen idea/concept/theme.
Craftsmanship:
Your print is free of scratches, smudges, fingerprints, or discoloration.
Your print explores multiple values from the darkest black to the brightest white.
Studio Skills:
Your print is properly exposed.
You demonstrated proper use of darkroom chemistry and processes when making prints.
You used your time productively, appropriately, and safely during every class.

Scanography

THEME:

Create a series of 3 scanograms based on an interview you give inspired by StoryCorps. This interview could
be of a friend, a relative, a classmate, a teacher, or yourself. Your series should explore a theme, topic, or
concept generated by the interview. Gather objects related to this theme to use in your series.

The Criteria
Idea Development:
You brainstormed interview questions inspired by listening to 8 different stories off of StoryCorps.com
You created lists/sketches/brainstorms for your scanogram series using an interview given to someone
as a starting point.
Design:
Your scanograms make use of the Principles of Design in an interesting way.
Your photograms connect either visually or thematically in an interesting way.
All space is activated in a way that makes sense to your series (no dead space).
Personal Choices:
You used objects that were related to the interview you gave.
You created a series based on an idea/concept unique to the interview given.
You created compositions that related to your chosen idea/concept/theme inspired by your interview.
Craftsmanship:
You scanned only the sections needed for your image (no blank, empty space)
No miscellaneous marks, scratches, or dust/hair particles are present in the scan.
Studio Skills:
You used the scanner and computer properly.
You used your time productively, appropriately, and safely during every class.

The Interview
StoryCorps has some great question starters online for you if youre drawing a blank. All you need is one good
question to get to a very interesting story. Use the space below for either brainstorming questions or even
taking notes during your interview!
