According to the Hindu Religious scholar, local legends and pundits, there are abundant and
obvious case is that of the Vinyakas of Varanasi, that is counting nearly 56 of them. These

It is to be noted that Vinyaka is Ganesh under his perturbing and malicious form. Most of
the Ganesh devotes have strong attachment to these names. They perform special pujas
according to the Hindu culture and tradition. More religious importance is also given to these
56 names in the puranas and in the present contemporary world.
And so, one can see that the Vinyakas have the same names as Ganesh, which is not
surprising, if one considers that under His
Despite this impressive list of the Varanasi Vinyakas, the pilgrims, during their
circumambulation of the 108 main temples of the town (the panchakrosi-parikrama, 80 km
-, done in ve days, bare feet and fasting), only visit a mere dozen of Vinyakas, those whose
names are in bold in the above list, concentrated, as one can see in the rst and seventh
circles. These Vinyakas are thus the most important ones, or to express it dierently, are
those with such inuence that it is necessary to worship them to attract their good favour.
