USAID Research and Innovation Fellowships Program

Arizona State University and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Global
Development Lab are partnering to offer Masters and Ph.D. candidates unique opportunities to confront
pressing challenges faced by the developing world.
The USAID Research and Innovation Fellowships at ASU offer top graduate students the opportunity to work
with USAID and host institutions in one of seven developing countries: Brazil, Colombia, India, Indonesia,
Philippines, Senegal, and South Africa.
Fellows will seek solutions to development challenges that they are genuinely passionate about while acquiring
invaluable research experience and international connections. Fellows will receive full tuition remission for the
year of their fellowship and a travel stipend to work in one of the seven priority countries.
Arizona State is among six universities chosen to partner with the Global Development Lab of the U.S. Agency
for International Development. Through this partnership, ASU graduate students are eligible for Research and
Innovation Fellowships that foster global collaboration, advance use- inspired research and improve lives.

Planting the seeds of sustainable development

Research and Innovation Fellowships are available to top-tier masters and doctoral students and are located in
Brazil, Colombia, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Senegal and South Africa. Prospective fellows find projects
that suit their interests by browsing an extensive catalog. Upwards of 400 projects span disciplines such as
biological sciences, chemistry, computer sciences, engineering, geosciences, materials research, mathematics,
physics and astronomy, social sciences and sustainability.
This variety allows students to leverage their specific area of expertise in the cultivation of solutions to complex
development challenges.

An international expanse of opportunity

Our goal is to build an equitable, participatory and inclusive research framework that serves as a model for the
global community and strengthens human networks.
While adding value to student experiences and connecting ASUs knowledge to areas where it is needed most,
Research and Innovation Fellowships present rich opportunities for public-private sector partnerships. Such
partnerships improve the ability of U.S. companies to expand existing markets and establish new ones - notable
advantages in our hyper-connected world economy.
