CORE COURSE GRADE REQUIREMENT:

Most colleges and universities will not accept any grade lower than a C in an approved college preparatory
course for the purposes of meeting their admissions requirements. A grade of a D will receive high school credit
but will not count for college admissions standards.
DROPPING OF COURSE:
South Salem High School policy states that dropping this class after the first 4 weeks requires the signature of
your teacher and may result in your receiving a grade of F for the semester. If you are experiencing trouble, let
me know ASAP. Dont delay!
COME PREPARED:
Paper, pencil, and homework are needed every day in class. A scientific calculator will also be needed for this
course. If youre going to buy a graphing calculator (NOT required), I recommend buying a TI84+. This model
will be suitable for any typical high school and college math and science coursework.
GRADING:
Your semester grade is cumulative, not an average of six-week grades. The following categories will contribute
to the approximate percentage of your grade:
Daily Work
15%
Tests/Quizzes 65%
Final
20%

90% - 100%
80% - 89%

DAILY WORK:
Daily work includes both class work and assignments to be completed outside of class. Class work could be any
combination of activities, notes, or practice designed for completion during class time. Homework will be
generally assigned every class day. Full credit can be earned be turning in homework on the day of the chapter
test. Work turned in after the designated due date will lose additional credit for each day it is late. A bonus can
be earned if a homework assignment is completed by the beginning of the next class. Homework will be
graded on effort/completion. NOTE: Students who do not keep up with daily work and homework typically do
not succeed in this class.
TESTS/QUIZZES/FINAL EXAM:
All individual unit/chapter tests (and quizzes, if any) will be announced and review will be provided prior to all
tests. There will be a cumulative final at the end of each semester. Each test will be broken into sections, one for
each assessed standard included in that chapter. The score for each section/standard will be recorded separately.

TEST RETAKES:
Students have the opportunity to retake each test ONCE during a semester. Students will receive 90% of the
revised score. Revised scores will replace the lower score unless the original test score was higher. The final
exam for each semester cannot be retaken. The deadline to re-take testing will be one week prior to the final
exam week. An extension may be given for the last chapter/unit test of each semester.
NOTE ON ABSENCES:
1. Getting make-up work and arranging for make-up tests or quizzes is your responsibility.
2. Student and teacher will make arrangements if a make-up test is needed due to an absence.
3. Failure to make-up a missed test within a reasonable time will result in using a re-take opportunity as the
make-up test.
4. Unexcused absences may result in forfeiture of any points from that day.
TAG/ENRICHMENT:
Opportunity is provided for all students to do independent research and to study material beyond the base course
material. TAG students in particular can request alternate problems to practice and alternate reference materials
to replace our regular course materials. If you are interested in such a modified program, please see me.
HONESTY:
You are expected to do your own work on all occasions. You are encouraged to get help on daily work from
your parents, friends, tutors, or me. Exams, quizzes, tests (other than group tests), work samples, and projects
are another issue. Giving or receiving help on these is considered dishonesty in the highest degree and will not
be taken lightly. Both the giver and the receiver of answers may receive a zero for their work. Additional
consequences are outline in the handbook.
EXTRA HELP:
After school help: Tuesday Thursday 2:20 to 3:20; Friday 2:20 to 2:50. Other times possible by prior
arrangement. (No appointment is necessary, however additional meetings might be scheduled that will
change those hours. Please check availability ahead of time.)
Before school: You are encouraged to make arrangements with your teacher ahead of time if you would
like assistance in the morning.
If you need help and your Geometry teacher is not available, feel free to ask another Geometry teacher
for help.
