Opening Letter
Dear Science Student,
I hope you had an enjoyable and relaxing summer
vacation. I would also like to formally welcome you to 7th
Grade science class. During the course of this academic
year, it is my goal to guide you in becoming a resourceful,
strategic and motivated learner. Throughout our journey, I
will challenge you to think critically, and inquire about the
world around you. I promise to create a safe classroom
environment in which you can feel comfortable taking
risks to promote complete understanding of scientific
concepts. I am excited for the challenging journey ahead of
us.

After-school
Policy
Susan
B. Anthony Middle
School
Mr. Pezzutos department night is
Thursday. I am after school until at
least 2:50pm each day to assist
students and address any questions.
To be permitted after school,
students must be working on science
work and must sign into the binder
labeled After-School
Help/Department Night. Students
will be asked to leave if not working
on science work.

Late-Work Policy
Late-work will be accepted for a
penalty of TEN (10) points per day
late, for up to TWO (2) days. Latework turned in two days after the
deadline will result in a zero for the
particular assignment.

Course Description
Students in grade 7 focus on systems and cycles to build a systems
perspective using their understanding of structures and elements
developed in earlier grades. A focus on systems requires students to
interpret information and apply concepts and skills in the broad
context of the discipline, and thus make connections between
different domains of knowledge. Standards in grade 7 highlight
interdisciplinary connections within and across domains since most
natural and designed systems and cycles are complex and interactive.
Students begin a process of building expert knowledge, moving from
a more concrete to an abstract perspective and creating a foundation
for exploring cause and effect relationships in more depth in grade 8.
They have experience in observing structure of cells, body systems,
matter, the Earth, measuring changes in energy, and applying these
ideas to systems and cycles that span domains.
