1. In a series R-L-C circuit, R= 6, L = 0.05H, C=98.8 F and the supply voltage is v(t) = 141.4 sin (t) + 70.7
sin(3t + 30) + 28.8 sin(5t-20) V. Determine the current and the total power in the circuit. =314 rad/s.
2. In a series R-L-C circuit, L is varied to produce resonance keeping the supply frequency and C fixed. The
circuit contains R = 100 , the capacitive reactance Xc = 200 , f= 50 Hz and the supply is 10000 V. Find the
voltage drop across L at resonance and also when the drop across L is a maximum.
3. A series R-L-C circuit is composed of components having values as R=0.2 ohm, L=100mH and C=50F. The
circuit is energized by a source of 24V, 50 Hz.
(a) Determine the voltage (magnitude and phase) across R, L and C.
(b) Find out the resonance frequency of this circuit. Also find out the voltages across R, L and C and Q-factor
for this condition.
4. Determine what value of capacitor (in figure 1) is required to bring the source power factor up to 0.85 (lag).
Also find I before and after the power factor correction. The supply frequency is 50 Hz.

5. (a) A single phase, 100V, 50Hz source supplies a single phase load having impedance of 10 and power
factor of 0.8 (lag) through a line of impedance Zline = (2+j6), as shown in Fig. 2. A pure capacitor is connected
in parallel (shunt) with the load. Two voltmeters, V1 and V2, are connected at the source and load terminals
respectively as shown in the figure. Find the minimum value of the capacitance (Csh) such that the readings of
the two voltmeters are exactly same. Find the load current ( I L ) and the source current ( I S ) under this
condition?
(b) Taking the source voltage as the reference, draw a phasor diagram showing the load terminal voltage,
source current, load current and the current into the capacitor ( I C ).
