Ecoflex fields of application

The advantages

Ecoflex is a flexible, pre-insulated, plastic piping

system. The properties of the material mean it is
an environmentally-sound piping system for a
number of different liquids. Several examples of
use for outside installation can be found in the
fields of drinking and industrial water transportation, hot and cold water supplies to buildings
and also in the transport of liquids in the food
and chemical industries.

You can expect not only high quality plastic
pipes made using the newest technology, but
also expert knowledge, years of experience,
a large range of coordinating and tested components, support in planning and execution as
well as a tight working relationship with the
cooperative partners in numerous countries
worldwide.

Your pre-insulated Ecoflex pipes will be delivered

to you at the construction site, in your chosen
length and at a convenient time. Please ask us
about specific delivery offers.
Handling and installation
The light-weight pipes allow easy and fast
installation and avoid any impediments. The
pipes for installation are available in lengths up
to 200 m and are delivered on large rolls, thus
reducing the need for fittings.
Simple assembly and unproblematic subsequent
insulation of the connections and outlets.
For the self-compensating pipe system, no
expansion pipe is necessary because the
calculations for thermal expansion of the
medium pipe have been taken into account,
thus allowing it to occur within the insulating
material.
Properties of the material
Ecoflex pipes are non-corroding, with a oxygen
diffusion, Medium pipes made in crosslinked
polyethylene. The corrugated (PE-HD) sleeve
combines high flexibility in the installation with
stability (because of the ring construction) and
sturdiness through its installation in the earth.
The closed-cell, crosslinked insulating layer,
which is layered like an onion skin, prevents
dampness from seeping into the material.
Fittings

Corrugated outer jacket made from shock resistant

polyethylene, highly flexible and stress resistant.

Excellent lightweight heat insulation in PEX foam

Corrosion-resistant,
tight against oxygen
diffusion. Medium
pipe made from
PEX material

The coloured dog-bone prevents any confusion

between the flow and return pipes.

A range of fittings with individual compatible

components such as insulating kits, house
connectors, end caps and more complete the
system program.

Average assembly time (without

trench work). The given assembly
time is in minutes and is based on
the suggested group size. The
given times are only approximate
values for your calculations.

Laying of pipe*
Position the delivered rolled pipe where you are going
to start the unravelling process. Fix the free end of
the pipe on the floor and roll it out alongside the
trench. For pipes with dimensions 90 and 110 mm,

we recommend you perform the assembly next to the

trench, before the pipe conduit is placed into the sand
underlay.

Detach fabric straps, step by step

and stretch,

or unravel whilst still within the protective foil.

WARNING! In order to reduce the risk of an uncontrolled unravelling, the rolled pipe should be secured with two
or three tightly secured fabric straps. Without this safety feature, the free pipe will roll out too quickly, once the
fixed straps have been removed.

Trench preparation
It is advantageous to heap the excavated earth
next to the trench. The pipe can be unravelled on
the free side and placed directly in the trench.
Avoid damaging the jacket pipe.

Avoid the use of sharp pointed tools to build the

trench. The filling material should be compressed in
layers. At a depth of 500 mm a mechanical tool can be
used. Place warning tape.

Assembly of WIPEX couplings

1. Cut the pipe at a right angle with

plastic pipe cutters. Tip: Do not use
a saw, particles from the plastic can
get into the pipe and hinder ventilation.

2. Chamfer the pipe with a burring

tool or knife. You can also remove
the edge from the exterior if
necessary.

4. Place the bolt head in the terminal 5. Place the terminal socket before
socket slot and remove the terminal the assembly of the piping.
Tip: ensure that the terminal socket
socket from the pipe joint.
is positioned correctly (check whether the flange from the outer terminal is turned to the inner protective
sleeve).

7. Tightening of the WIPEX pipe

connectors. Lubricate the screw
thread and grommet with a suitable
lubricant e.g. silicon grease. Use
a forked or box wrench and tighten
until the terminal socket slot is shut.

3. Remove the outer terminal

socket by loosening the bolt.
Stretch the socket terminal with
pliers.

6. To ease the pipe assembly in

the protective sleeve and to avoid
damage to the O-ring, lubricate the
O-ring with a suitable lubricant e.g.
silicon spray grease. The piping
should be pushed so far that it
connects with the protective sleeve.
The outer terminal socket should
be assembled in such a way, that
the anchorage collar of the terminal
socket sits right in the groove of the
protective sleeve.

8. Tip: Retightening the pipe

connectors. If you cannot reach
the wall, wait 30 minutes and then
try again, until the terminal socket
is shut.

Assembling the Ecoflex coupling

Cut the plastic pipe at right angles

Ratchet with 17 mm insertion pipe

Clean medium pipe and

connection

Chamfer inside the medium

pipe with a burring tool or knife.
If necessary remove the edge
from the outer side.

Tightness check

Now the screw cap can be

tightened to the pre-described
torsional force (see table).

Compression tests are to be

carried out according to regulations given for each particular use.

The Ecoflex chambers

The chamber is designed for pipe connections
which cannot be put together using the T-pieces.
This is the case if the closing device or control
system has been installed.

Isolate the outlets in accordance with the dimensions

of the protecting tube.

is compressed in layers.

1 Fold open the insulation set and fit the pipe

Be sure not to dirty the joining ring on the reducer.

3 Fold the insulation set together so that there is

a complete and secure bonded joint in the bonded
area.

surface and ensure that no dirt sticks to the
surface.

4 Place the 6 metal bands on the marked area of the

insulation set. Bolt the metal bands onto the top
peak of the insulation material.
