Whoever wishes to be first among you must be your slave. (Mt 20:27)
goal is to provide a spiritual home where all are welcome, where the healing,
reconciling, liberating love of God flows through us to all people. In this way,
we believe that the Church is the sacrament of Gods saving presence in the
world.
Fill us at daybreak with your kindness, that we may shout for joy and gladness
all our days. Psalm 90:14
CAMBIO DE ACTITUD
In recent years, there has been remarkable progress in drawing persons with disabilities into full
celebration. Now it is generally accepted that worship places need accommodations such as ramps
or elevators, large-print materials for those who
are sight-impaired, and perhaps even an assisted
hearing system or signing in American Sign Language. American Sign Language is not merely
English translated into movement, but a distinct
language with its own grammar, syntax (word order), and vocabulary. For this reason, the American Catholic bishops have approved American
Sign Language (ASL) as an official language of the
liturgy. Celebrating liturgy in our own language
(the vernacular) means that liturgy must be accessible to all languages and cultures. The fact that
Mass is celebrated this weekend in some places in
total silence, but with the full participation of deaf
people praising God in the movements of their
hands, and sometimes even with a priest who is
deaf, is nothing less than the Church being faithful
to the image of Jesus, who made the deaf hear and
the mute speak. Remember too that deafness is an
invisible disability, and that there may well be
people in your parish who are quietly yearning for
Mass to be signed for them in ASL.
Salmo 90 (89):14
ATTITUDE CHANGE
Todays readings ask us to re-think our attitudes and ways.
The passage from the book of Wisdom reminds us that, when
it comes to understanding, even the wisest person barely
scrapes the surface of things. In Pauls provocative little letter
to Philemon, the apostle praises Philemon for his understanding of the social order which included slaveryand for his
good treatment of Onesimus. Then Paul goes on to drop his
bombshell. He tells Philemon that Onesimus is now a Christian and should be treated as suchas a brother, an equal.
What was Philemon to think? Todays Gospel tells us that if
we are to follow Jesus, we must do some serious planning.
Then, once all our planning is complete, we have to be willing
to accept the fact that our plans are never enough.

Poco a
maridos y hermanos a autoridades injustas o cobardes.

Each man should give what he has decided in his heart, for God loves a cheerful giver.
Legend has it that Emperor Constantines mother, St. Helena, although then eighty years of age, undertook a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, with a determination to find, if possible, the true cross. She
caused the profane buildings that had been erected on Calvary to be removed, and put a band of men
to work excavating. Presently they came upon three crosses and all the other instruments of the Passion. It had been the custom of the Jews to bury the instruments of a criminals death near the place
of his execution. The difficulty now was to distinguish the cross of Our Lord from the other two. Accordingly, all three were borne in solemn procession to the home of a lady who was dangerously ill.
The first and second crosses were applied to the invalid without effect, but on the third being applied, she was instantly restored to health.

Road to eternity
I sought my soul, But my soul I could not see. I sought my God, But my God eluded me.
I sought my brother, And I found all three.
Sign of the Cross (Signum crucis)
The sign of the cross, says St. Ignatius of Antioch, a disciple of St. John, is the trophy raised
against the power of the prince of this world; when he sees it, he is afraid; when he even hears of it,
he is filled with terror.
No other ceremony is used so frequently during the celebration of the Mass as the sign of the cross.
A partial indulgence is granted to the faithful who make the Sign of the Cross.
Here is how you make the Sign of the Cross properly: begin with folded hands, place the left hand on
your breast, as you say In the name of the Father with your right hand straight, touch your forehead with the fingers of the right hand; and of the Son with your right hand touch your breast just
above your left hand; and of the Holy touch your fingers to your left shoulder. Spirit. Touch
your right shoulder with the fingers of your right hand. Amen. Return your hands to the folded position.
