To whom it may concern:
I am writing to express my interest in the NICU Residency position at Johns Hopkins All
Childrens Hospital. I am a recent Summa Cum Laude graduate of The University of
South Florida with a passion for neonatal and infant care. I am a PCT II at JHACH, and I
completed my final practicum clinical in the NICU. Based on my combined academic and
clinical experiences, I believe I have the necessary qualities to be an asset to your team.
Within the classroom setting at USF, I have developed knowledge that I am able to
practice in the clinical setting. I graduated with a 3.91 GPA, while attending clinical twice
a week and sustaining my commitment as a PCT. Maintaining these responsibilities
helped me practice effective time management, one of the most essential skills for a
nurse to possess. Furthermore, I demonstrated my leadership abilities as the Nursing
Student Council President of USF College of Nursing Class of 2016. As I fulfilled my
responsibilities, I learned the importance of delegating, listening, and effectively
communicating with the class board, professors, and the student body. Such skills
translate into my nursing practice as they help me to effectively communicate with
patients, other nurses, and physicians to facilitate care, and they enable me to assume
leadership roles when necessary.
In addition to my academic experience, I am also experienced in pediatric patient care. I
have experience in every unit at JHACH, and I spent two months in the NICU for my
practicum. My various exposures to every unit has made me well rounded in basic to
complex patient cases. Floating has also helped me become both flexible and adaptable.
I was privileged to complete my practicum at JHACH NICU from May-July 2016. Halfway
through my practicum, I was able to perform all assessments and provide all nursing
care to a full 3-baby assignment. I provided education and discharge teaching to
families. I advocated for patients and communicated with various members of the
interdisciplinary team. This clinical experience confirmed my passion for this vulnerable
patient population and furthered my desire to grow in knowledge and skill of neonatal
nursing.
Thank you for your consideration. I am excited about the potential of furthering my
career at Johns Hopkins All Childrens Hospital because I am inspired by this patient
population and by the nurses on your team. Attached, please find my resume. I welcome
the opportunity to further discuss my qualifications with you in the near future. I can be
reached by phone at (813) 830-2331 or by email at kgay8@jhmi.edu. I look forward to
talking with you soon.
Respectfully,

Kailey Gay
