The recommended serving of Carbs is 180-230 grams per day and I have been eating about 50
grams per day. Carbohydrates are needed to make glucose, your bodys main energy source.
The recommended amount of proteins per day is 20-50 grams and I ate about 40 grams per
day. The body needs the recommended amount because proteins are used to help build and
repair tissue. I was closer to the recommended than in Carbohydrates. The recommended
amount of saturated fat per day is 16 grams and I had about 7 grams per day. I had mostly 0
grams of unsaturated fat and there weren't any specific recommended amounts. Although, most
of the fat in your diet should be unsaturated fats. The body only needs the recommended
amount because more or less would not make for a healthy body. Too much fat and not enough
exercise would result in an overweight human. Eating proteins over the recommended amount
is not bad if you work out to go along with it. Things like water, nutrients, and oxygen are part of
the chemical requirements to maintain homeostasis but the food you eat also plays an important
role. Animal-based foods that contain complete protein include beef, pork, lamb, chicken, and
turkey. Plant-based foods with incomplete protein provide various combinations of amino acids.
Eating a different varieties of all types of protein foods will supply the amino acids that help with
the bodys goal to achieve homeostasis. Your body needs certain amounts of fats for functions
that promote homeostasis, such as body insulation and blood clotting. Saturated fats are
abundant in animal-based foods, such as meats, fish and dairy products. Your body needs
significant amounts of the macrominerals such as calcium, potassium, and magnesium to
complete its metabolic processes. Proteins are chains of amino acids and they can be enzymes,
to promote chemical reactions.
How is a protein synthesized to maintain homeostasis? Cells are capable of synthesizing new
proteins, which are essential for the maintenance of cellular activities.This process involves the
formation of new protein molecules from amino acid building blocks and many proteins are
enzymes that prepare biochemical reactions and are vital to metabolism. Proteins are also
necessary in our diets, since we cannot synthesize all the amino acids we need and must obtain
essential amino acids from food. Through the process of digestion, we break down ingested
protein into free amino acids that are then used in metabolism.
I learned that I need to really focus more on what I am eating. After adding up the totals, I wasnt
pleased with the results. I noticed that even though I did not eat well, I still did a sufficient
amount of exercise. I am going to use this lesson to make better decisions in life and change my
diet. After all, you are what you eat.
