Abstract-It is a very tedious task to do setups in every

instance like development instance, production instance
etc.But with iSetup we can migrate setup data from one
Oracle E-business Suite instance to another. So the tedious
task of doing the setup in every instace can be avoided and
also we can avoid human errors while doing the setup by
using iSetup.

Keywords isetup, instance, Object Migration.

I.INTRODUCTION
Oracle iSetup, a data migration and reporting tool, is
a part of the Oracle E-Business Suite. This tool
consists of the Migrator and the Reporter. Oracle
iSetup is used to

The steps to migrate data are:

Extract select data from an Oracle E-Business Suite
instance. (EBSDEV)
Transform select attributes of the extracted data
objects as per requirements. (OPTIONAL)
Load data to the target Oracle E-Business Suite
instance. (EBSCRP3)
The Reporter helps you to generate reports.
Generate reports on the extracted data.
Compare two sets of extracted data to identify
differences between them if any.
II. FUNCTIONALITY OF ISETUP

Migrate setup data from one Oracle E-business

Suite instance to another.

The first step is to define Source and Target Instance

( to be done once only). Login to iSetup
responsibility.

(iSetup can be used to migrate incremental setups

selectively across instances using filters on setup
attributes.)

Menu options for this responsibility are:

Generate reports on setup data.

Home: Takes to the Home page of iSetup. This page

displays the most recent extracts, loads and reports. It
also has links to other components of the product.

A. Components of Oracle iSetup

Oracle iSetup consists of the following components:

iSetup Migrator

iSetup Reporter

The Migrator helps you to migrate data from one

instance of the Oracle E-Business Suite to another
instance. The two instances used here are EBSDEV
and EBSCRP3.

Migrations: This menu contains the Selection Sets,

Extracts, Transforms, and Loads subtabs. Each of
these subtabs takes to their respective windows.
Reports: This menu contains the Standard Reports
and Comparison Reports subtabs. Clicking on them
takes to the respective windows.
Administration: This menu contains the Instance
Mapping subtab. Having appropriate access
privileges, one can also see the Interface Repository
subtab in addition to the Instance Mapping sub tab.

Create Instance Mapping (between the two instance

that are to be used as source instance EBSDEV and
target instance EBSCRP3 )

While mapping, we require the name of the DBC file

for the two instance (source & destination) .It can be
obtained from the system administrator. Here they
are EBSCRP3.dbc (destination instance) and
EBSDEV.dbc (source instance). The second step is
data migration.
Data migration is a four-step process:

Click on Selection Sets

Create a Selection Set

Extract data from the source instance, using
the selection sets.
Transform the extracted data, if required.
(Optional)
Load the extracted or transformed data to
the target instance.
B. Selection Sets

Selection sets are the building blocks for the

migration process. Oracle iSetup provides a set of
templates allowing to create selection sets assisted
with existing templates. Custom selection sets can
also be created without using existing templates.

Finally name of the selection set has to be given (any

name) and the source instance from where it has to be
extracted. Now objects can be filtered here by
clicking on the filter icon of each data object.
If the filter icon of the USERS is clicked then the
screen appears where we give the user name and the
security group for which we want the data to be
extracted as given below.

After selecting the User_name and Security_group

for which the filtration is to be done, it is selected and
apply button is pressed.

III. EXTRACTS
An extract is a snapshot of the data that has been
extracted from a source Instance. The extract can be
used to perform migration. Create; Upload,
Download, Search, View, Transform, Load, or
Report on an extract can be done.
Creating an Extract
From the Migrations tab > Extracts sub tab, click
Create to create an extract.

Click on Finish Button.

Alternatively, select a selection set from the Selection

Sets window and click Extract. This populates details
of the selection set for the Extract process.

The following screen appears.

The following are the steps to create an Extract:

1. Name: Enter a unique name for the extract. This is
a Mandatory field.
2. Selection Set: Select the required selection set for
extraction. To do this, click the search icon. This is a
Mandatory field. After a selection, the data objects
for the chosen selection set are automatically
displayed in a table format.
3. Source Instance: Select the source instance from
the pick list. This is a Mandatory field.
Note: If the selected source instance is different from
that used at the time of creating the selection set, then
some of the filters, if set, may become invalid and
may not return any data. By default, the source
instance used during creation of the selection set is
populated.
4. Description: Provide informative description that
could help in identifying the extract. This field is not
mandatory.
5. Filter Set: Indicate if any filters are set to the data
object.
6. Supports Update: Indicate if data object interface
supports updating the existing record in the target.
Click on Continue Button
7. Schedule: Create the extract as soon as possible or
schedule it for a later date and time.
8. Finish: Click Finish to submit the extract creation
process.
An extract is created as per the screen shots given
below.

Schedule the extract with As soon as possible

option and click on Finish Button. On Confirmation,
the Go Button is clicked to Search the extract. The
Go button is used for refresh here.

Attention: Only frozen transforms can be loaded.

An active extract which has at least one data object
supporting transformation.
Searching for Transforms
Either a Simple Search or an Advanced Search can
be done.
In Advanced Search, the following attributes of the
Transform based on which the search can be done
are:
Name
Extract Name
Request ID
Phase
Status
Submitted on
Search Results
All transforms that match search criteria provided are
listed in a table format. Use the search results page
to:
View a list of transforms with name, request
ID, extracts, submitted date, phase,
transform status, frozen, and active status
View the details of a transform by clicking
the name link
Create a transform by clicking Create
Load an active and frozen transform by
selecting the transform first and
clicking Load
Delete a transform by clicking the Delete
icon
Update a transform by the Update icon
IV. TRANSFORMS
Oracle iSetup allows you to transform extracted data
in the following ways:

The check in the Active column indicates that the

transform is created from an extract of the current
release.

Individually transform certain attributes of the data

objects in an Extract.
Simultaneously transform group of attributes for the
data objects in an extract

A. Loads
Load can be done for an extract or a frozen
transform to the target instance.

Note: All data objects do not support transformation.

Transforming data is a three step process.
1. Create: Submit the extract for transformation.
2. Update: Modify the attributes of the data objects.
3. Freeze: Freeze the transform to prevent any further
changes before it is loaded. By freezing a transform,
it is ensured that it would not be changed while it is
being loaded.

scenarios by loading a CRP instance from an
industry best practice configuration.

V. REPORTING
Oracle iSetup Reporter takes extracted data as input
to generate standard reports and comparison reports.
The data objects can be chosen to generate the
desired report and view the report online or download
it as PDF, RTF, or Excel formats. The report online
view also allows to search for a record from within
the report.
A. Advantages of isetup
1.

A first time EBS implementation involves a

manual setup using either Business
Accelerators or a manual entry. iSetup can

2.

iSetup provides an enterprise wide

repository to store business specific
configuration snapshots. These copies can
be used to configure a new instance, thus
avoiding
re-configuration.

3.

iSetup can be used to copy all setups striped

by an Operating Unit and move it to another
EBS instance using Hierarchical selection
set feature which cascades filter criteria to
all related setups in the selection set
template.

4.

iSetup can be used to migrate incremental

setups selectively across instances using
filters
on
setup
attributes.

5.

Instead of cloning the entire EBS instance,

iSetup can be used to move required setup
data from a production instance to a testing
instance. New setups can be added to the
test instance and those specific setups can be
selectively migrated to production instance
while the instance is up and running. This
minimizes the need to redo setups, and
execute
expensive
clone
activities.

6.

iSetup provides standard and comparison

reporting features. Standard reports help in
documenting the setups in regular
PDF/RTF/Excel that serve as a standard
reference for implementation teams. Release
12.1 also supports BR100 styled reports.
iSetup also generates detailed deployment
reports for post implementation audits and
sign-offs
(coming
soon
in
12.1).

7.

iSetup comparison reports can help in

troubleshooting functional setups by
enabling users to compare setups across
instances or timelines.
VI.CONCLUSION
Any oracle Implementations involves lot of
effort and re-doing setups from scratch when
ever a new instance is required. If we
perform the setups manually it is prone to
human error and it cause lot of time for
functional developers to find the missing
setups and fix it. A lot of time os saved for
setups and errors are avoided if we use the
