Coordinated Movement Sequence

Understanding Statement: Through this experience learners will be able to understand how to
create sound in unison with others. They will also learn how to feel and maintain a steady beat
through motions. By doing this they will discover phrasing in music and understand the
progression of a song with its correlation to the methodical movements.

Procedure:

Stomp Feet Together (16 beats) - Double Coordinated


Stomp Feet Alternating (16 beats) - Double Alternating

Right Claw (16 beats) - Single Coordinated


Left Claw (16 beats) - Single Coordinated
Claws Together (16 beats) - Double Coordinated
Claws Alternate (16 beats) Double Alternating
Claws Cross Body (16 beats) - Double Alternating
Right- Left- Together-Stomp (32 beats) Complex

Assessment:
-Will monitor students to see if they are keeping up with the class, If not we will revert back to
stomps
-Will ask students to identify any patterns they notice relating the movements with the
progression of the music
-Will ask students what musically they learned from moving along with the group
Extension:

Ask the students to create their own movements to the beat


Learn about phrasing and when the phrases sound like they end
Fit our new movements into phrases
Talk about the rhythm relating to the movements (i.e. 16 quarter notes in a phrase)
Make up new movements with different rhythms adding rests
Talk about rests in the movements and how they relate to music
