At UC, we treat International Students and local students

the same - you start, progress and finish as equals. In fact,
no other New Zealand university puts as much emphasis on
their level of care for International Students - before, during
and after your graduation.
You will gain a lot more than just intellectual skills and
professional knowledge. You will become involved with the
community, you will gain a new cultural awareness, you will
be highly employable, innovative and globally connected.
You will leave UC with more than an education.
You will have a head start on the rest of your life.

01

Why
New Zealand?
You may have never been to New Zealand but you will have seen us in the movies,
on the sports field and in business and innovation. However, there is a lot more
to New Zealand than The Hobbit and winning the Rugby World Cup (twice in a row).
The first thing you will notice the minute you step off the plane is how clean and green
New Zealand is. The air is fresh and pure, the visibility is often unlimited. Theres a
natural beauty waiting for you to explore.
People are friendly, happy to show you the way and share some local knowledge.
You can travel around the cities and countryside in confidence, knowing that
New Zealand is one of the safest and most peaceful countries in the world.
New Zealand is a truly multi cultural society and welcomes the world as visitors
and as new migrants. You can enjoy a real mix of cultures and experiences.
Yes, New Zealand is far away- but that makes it safe from the troubles of the world.

Why
Christchurch?
There is a real buzz about Christchurch. Christchurch is New Zealands second
largest city and its your gateway to our world famous great outdoors. Inside the city,
there is an estimated $US30 billion to be spent in the region over the next five to eight
years. The city is building a state of the art future, driven by safety, community and
connectivity. Christchurch is the place to be.
Christchurch is not only one of the most beautiful cities
in the world and best located but also one of the most
exciting places to be right now. It is reinventing itself
every day. But we cant do this alone. Christchurchs
economic growth has left gaps in the labour market and
created new opportunities for budding entrepreneurs
we need highly talented people to help redefine the future
of this region. I am proud to be a part of this time in our
history as the citys Mayor and hope that you can join us
and be a part of the changing landscape of our city.

set on studying speech therapy at UC. However,
she was missing several key prerequisites for
entry. Stefanie spent four months in the UCIC
programme, gaining the credits she needed and
settling into life in a new country.

Pathways
Your pathway to a UC education could not be easier. You can either come directly
into UC or through one of our pathway partners.
If you need extra support with your English language, then Christchurch College of
English Language (CCEL) provide in-depth programmes to help you gain direct entry
to your chosen university programme without having to take IELTS (International
English Language Testing System). CCEL is also on campus, so you will still be
surrounded by the vibrant campus life.
UC is the only university in New Zealand with a Navitas pathway college on campusUCIC. This gives you an alternative entry point if you do not meet UCs standard entry
requirements or simply if you need extra support during your first year of study.

Paths to success

UCIC helped me in so many ways. The classes

are small so we got to work closely with our
lecturers. We learned practical skills about how
to study and write assignments. And we did lots
of activities off-campus as well. For Biology we
went bird watching. It was fun!
Better yet, I got to meet lots of other
international students. We all clicked straight
away. It helped me feel more comfortable. I still
hang out with the friends I made there.
Following UCIC, Stefanie successfully gained
entry into the Speech and Language Pathology
degree. Now in her first year, Stephanie loves
the energy in class.
My teachers are very outgoing. Theres lots of

classmates are very friendly too. If you dont
