1 InstructionforUse
Thankyouforusingourblackandwhite(B&W)screenseriesfingerprintrecognitionterminal(FRT).Pleasereadthis
manual carefully before using this product for a comprehensive understanding so as to avoid causing unnecessary
damagestotheproduct.
ProtecttheFRTfromexposuretodirectsunlightorstrongbeamasstrongbeamgreatlyaffectsthefingerprintcollection
andleadstofingerprintverificationfailure.
AvoidusingtheFRToutdoorsinsummer.TheworkingtemperatureofB&W screen seriesrangesfrom040C. Theheat
dissipated during longterm operation may easily leadtoresponse slowdown and verification passrate decrease. It is
recommendedtousesunshadesandheatsinkdevicesforprotectionoftheFRTsoutdoors.Werecommendyoutousethe
FRT properlysoastoachievetheoptimalrecognitioneffectandverificationspeed.
1.Recommendedfingers
Recommended fingers: The index finger, middle finger or the ring finger the thumb and little finger are not
recommended(becausetheyareusuallyclumsyonthefingerprintcollectionscreen).
2.FingerPlacement

Thissectionintroducesthedefinitionsanddescriptionsofthefollowingbasicconcepts:

ThemostimportanttwofunctionssupportedbyB&Wscreenseriesareuserenrollmentandverification.

2.1 UserEnrollment
Ausercanenrollupto10differentfingerprintsusingoneIDnumbertohavemultipleverificationselections.
Theoretically allthe fingers of a userneed to be enrolled so that the user can use any of the enrolled fingerprints for
recognitionevenifhe/sheforgetswhichfingerprint hasbeenenrolled.
Generally it is recommended that a user shall enroll at least two fingerprints, for example, the index fingers of both
hands,sothattheusercanstillperformfingerprintmatchingevenifoneormoreofhis/herfingersgetcutordamaged.

2.2 UserVerification
Whenauserscanshis/herfingerprintonthefingerprintreader(1:N)orentersapassword/placinghis/herfingerafter
enteringan IDnumber(1:1), thedevicecomparesthenewly scanned fingerprint witha fingerprint storedin template.
ThefingerprinttemplateisusedtochecktheuserID.Uponverification,thesystemdisplaysapromptaboutwhetherthe
verificationsucceedsornotandthenstoresthesuccessfulmatchingrecordinthe device.

2.3 MatchThreshold
Thematchthresholdissettoachieveatradeoff betweenthepossibilitiesof falserejectionandfalseacceptance.The
falseacceptancemeansthefingerprintrecognitiondevicemistakesthefingerprintofuserAforthatofuserB,whilethe
falserejectionmeansthefingerprintrecognitiondevicerefusestorecognizeanenrolledfingerprint.
Youcansetamatchthresholdforallusers.Forfingerprintsthatfailtopasstheverification,youcanadopttheID+
Fingerprintverificationmode(thatis,1:1match)sothatthesystemadoptsthedatasetin1:1matchthresholdwhen
matchingthefingerprints.
Ifausersfingersareseverelywornoutordamaged,lowerthematchthreshold(seeTable 21).

Note:Thefalseacceptancerate(FAR)andfalserejectionrate(FRR)mutuallyinfluenceeachother.Reducingthe
FARwillincreasetheFRR,andviceversa.Thedefaultmatchthresholdis35andthedefault1:1matchthreshold

Whenenrollingfingerprints,auserwillbeallocatedwithanunusedID.Whentheuserstartstoverifyhis/heridentity,
thisIDisusedtoassociatethefingerprintfeaturetemplateorpassword.
You can enter the ID through the mini keyboard or other storage means, for example, the RF card (the fingerprint
recognitiondevicemustbeconfiguredwiththeRFcardreader).

2.5 AuthorityClasses
TheB&WscreenseriesFRTsincludefourauthorityclasses:

Users:refertothosewhoarerequiredtoverifytheiridentityforapurpose,forexample,openingthedoorthrough
theB&WscreenFRTorkeepingtheirentry/exitrecords.
Registrars:refertotheuserswhoaregrantedtheright toenrollordeleteusers.
Administrators:refertotheuserswhoaregrantedtherighttoperformalloperationsexceptperformingadvanced
settingsandenrollingadministratorsandsuperadministrators.
Superadministrators:refertouserswhohaveaccesstoallsystemfunctionsandmodifyallsystemsettings.

Note: When the super administrators are not enrolled, the registrars can enroll the administrators and super
administrators.Similarly,theadministratorscanenrollsuperadministratorsintheabsenceofsuperadministrators.Once
superadministratorsareenrolled,administratorsoflowerclasscannotenrollthoseofhigherclass.

2.6 MainInterface

ThischapterintroduceshowtoenrollusersontheB&Wscreenseries.Further,itdescribeshowtoverifythevalidityof
enrolledfingerprints.

3.1 EnrollaUser
Ifnoadministratorhasbeenenrolled,anyuserhastherighttoenrollanewuser.Ifanadministratorhasalreadybeen
enrolled, youcanonlyenrollanewuserafterpassingtheadministratorverification.
The RFT supports the following three enrollment modes that respectively apply to the general public with three
differenttypesoffingerprintquality:

Fingerprint enrollment: This enrollment mode applies to the majority of the general public with good quality
fingerprints.
Fingerprint+Passwordenrollment:Thisenrollmentmodeappliestoasmallportionofthegeneralpublicwhocan
enroll their fingerprints successfully but have difficulty in fingerprint verification due to their poor fingerprint
quality.
Passwordenrollment:Thisenrollmentmodeappliestoaboutonepercent(theactualnumbermayvaryslightly)of
thegeneralpublicwhoareunabletoenrolltheirfingerprintssuccessfully.

If an administrator has already been enrolled, you need to verify the administrator identity by pressing MENU. The
systemthenpromptsyoutoswipeyourfingerorenterapasswordforadministratorverification.
Note:Ifnoadministratorhasbeenenrolled,administratorverificationisnotrequired.

thisFPcardandnolongerpresentintheFRT.

coversasmuchofthesensorwindowaspossible.Donotpressyourfingerperpendicular
tothefingerprintsensordonotknockyourfingeronthesensorquicklykeepyourfinger
still.

Impactofthe
fingerprintimage
change

Thechangeoffingerprintimageduetoskinpeelingofforinjurywillaffectthe
verificationperformance.
Ifthefingerprintqualityofauserispoorduetotheskinpeelingoffandtheusercannot
passtheverificationoneweeklater,theuserneedstoreenrollhis/herfingerprintoradopt
thepasswordverificationmode.

Othercauses

The time duration of electronic lock works from open to close when user's verification succeeds (In case the door is closed).

Different events relate to different statuses. For example, the attendance involves such statuses as signin, signoff,
signin for overtime work, signoff for overtime work, leave and return. The access control system involves such
statusesasentryandexit.
SomeFRTshave6statuskeysontheirkeyboardstosetcurrentstatus,whileothershavethe/keytoselectcurrent
status.Butthesestatusesmustbemanuallyset,thatis,touseastatus,pressrelatedstatuskey.Toreducemanualoptions,
our company has developed the timed status switchover function that enables the FRT to automatically switch over
currentstatusatuserspecifiedtimeanddisplaythestatusontheinitialinterface.

13.3 ScheduledBell
Lotsofcompaniesneedtoringtheirbellstosignalthestartandendofworkshifts,andtheyusuallymanuallyringtheir
bellsoruseelectricbells.Tosavecostsandfacilitatemanagement,ourcompanyintegratesthescheduledbellfunction
intotheFRT.TheoptionsBellDelayandBellTimeSegmentareavailableontheFRTsthatsupportthescheduledbell
function.Thereare8timesegmentsavailableeverydayofaweek.Youcansettheringtimeasrequired.TheFRTwill

ToenableremotecommunicationbetweenaPCandtheFRTinareaswhereInternetaccessisunavailable,someFRTs
support the PointtoPoint Protocol (PPP) connection. The PPP connection is a type of endtoend connection over
telephone cables. The PC implements dialup network access through a Modem. The FRT must also connect with a
ModemwhichisthenconnectedwiththePSTNoveratelephonecable.TheFRTaccessesthenetworkuponsuccessful
dialup.
[OperationSteps]
1. Connect the FRT with the Modem by using the deliveryattached cablemarked with Modem. Power on the FRT

Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) is also known as the 802.11b standard. The greatest advantage of WiFi is its high

existing802.11DSSSdevices.IEEE802.11bisaradiobasedvariantofIEEE802.11.ThebandwidthofIEEE802.11b

To accommodate to the market demand for the currently popular iClass cards, we have developed the FRT with
noncontact RF iClass cardreadermodule. By integratingthe iClass card,the FRT can be conveniently consolidated

Duetothecapacityandspeedconstraints,itisunlikelytostoreaheftyamountoffingerprints(forexample,thousands
offingerprints)offlineontheFRT.EveniftheFRTishighlyscalable,theofflinerunningspeedoftheFRTiswaytoo
slowasopposedtothePC.Therefore,theofflineRFTfallsshortoftherequirementsraisedbysomelargeverification
system for large fingerprint storage capacity and high match efficiency. To accommodate to these requirements, our
companydeliverstheRemoteIdentificationServer(RIS)solution.
OperatingPrincipleoftheRIS
The RIS solution uses the FRT as the fingerprintreader whileretaining its offline verification function. By usingthe
networkfunctionoftheFRT,itsendsthedatasuchasthefingerprintverificationtemplatesandfingerprintimagestothe
backgroundforverification,storesverificationresultsinbackgrounddatabaseanddisplaysthemontheLCDscreenof

TheRISsolutionisespeciallysuitedtolargedatabasematchoffactorieswithaheadcountof1000to3000employees,

13.24 AutomaticTimeCalibration
ConsideringthehugeworkloadforonebyonetimecalibrationofmultipleFRTsinanetwork,youcanspecifyadevice
orPCinthisnetworkasatimeserver,andsettheAutomaticTimeCalibrationoptionofthetobecalibrateddevices
to theIP address of the specified time server.Then other devices will automatically connect withthis server fortime
calibration.Youonlyneedtoensurethatallthedevicescanaccessthetimeserver.
Forexample,severalFRTsinanetworksupporttheautomatictimecalibrationfunction.SetFRTAtothetimeserver.
ThedisplaytimeofFRTAis11:00onOctober28th 2006,anditsIPaddressisassumed192.168.1.100.Youneedto
setthetimeofdevicesinthequantityofMinthisnetworktobesynchronouswiththeFRTA.Accessthesedevicesand
select Menu Options System Opt Adv Option. In the displayed [Adv Option] interface, check the
Automatic Time Calibration option and set it to the IP address of the time server. After completing these settings,
restartthedevices.Thesedevices willautomaticallysearchthetimeserverafteraperiodoftimetokeepsynchronous
withthetimeofthetimeserver.

13.25 DaylightSavingTime(TimeZoneSettings)
TheDaylightSavingTime(DLST)isawidelyusedsystemofadjustingtheofficiallocaltimeforwardtosaveenergy.
The uniform time adopted during the implementation of this system is known as the DLST. Typically clocks are
adjusted forward one hour in the summer to make people early to bed and early to rise so as to make full use of

illumination resources and save electricity. Clocks are adjusted backward in autumn. The specific DLST regulations
varywithcountries.Atpresent,theDLSTsystemisadoptedeveryyearbyabout110countriesintheworld.
To meet the DLST requirement, the FRT supports the DLST function to adjust forward one hour at (Hour):
(Minute)(Day)(Month)andbackwardonehourat(Hour):(Minute)(Day)(Month).

theuserpassesthefingerprintverification,andvoicesPlacetryagain!iftheuserfailstopasstheverification.
TomaketheFRTsmoreuserfriendly,weenablestheFRTstoplaythespecifiedvoicepromptsinresponsetodifferent

TheDynamicHostConfigurationProtocol(DHCP)providesaframeworkforallocatingdynamicIPaddressestohosts
on a TCP/IP network. DHCP consists of two components: server and client. The DHCP server performs centralized
managementofalltheIPnetworkconfigurationdataandhandleswiththeDHCPrequestsfromclient.Theclientuses
theIPaddressallocatedbyserver.
WhenourFRTusestheDHCP,itneedsaDHCPserverandourFRTworksasaclient.
OntheFRTsupportingDHCP,selectMenuOptionsCommOptDynHostOpt,andsettheoptionDynHost
Optto Y.Afteraccessingthenetwork,restarttheFRTandtheFRTwillsendamessagetotheDHCPserver,requesting
a dynamic IP address, and a prompt Acquiring IP address will be displayed on the screen. The DHCP server will
provideausableIPaddressandasubnetmaskfortheFRTbasedontheconfiguredaddress.AftertheFRTacquiresan
IP address, you can select Menu Options Comm Opt to query the acquired IP address, subnet mask, and
gateway.
If yousettheoption DynHostOpttoN,theDHCPfunctionwillnotbeactivated.YouneedtomanuallyinputanIP
address,subnetmask,andgateway.

13.29 UserGrouping
Divideusersintodifferentgroups.Theuserneedstofirstinputthenumberofthegroupthathe/shebelongstoandthen
placehis/herfingerontheFRTforrecognition.Youcanalsosettheunlocktimeforeverygrouptofacilitatetheaccess
