Class Workbook:
Read180 Workbook
Introduction:
Welcome to Read 180. We meet in room B17. I look forward to a great year with you and your child! Reading is
the foundation for support in the core academic classes. Please feel free to contact me for any questions or concerns.
Im here for you!
Overview:
Students will participate in center based activities and assignments designed to build and strengthen their skills in
oral reading, comprehension, vocabulary and spelling. The standards for this course are relative to the English
curriculum with the emphasis being placed on reading. The VBCPS Compass 2016 Plan will be utilized in my
classroom as a guide to promote and produce 21st century learners, workers and citizens.

Please have all necessary supplies.
Listen carefully.

Complete independent assignments quietly. Do not disturb others who are working.
Respect others. Be kind with your words and actions.
Respect school and personal property.
- The students are not excused to the restroom at the beginning of the bell. They are excused after classroom
instruction during group and independent activities.
- If the students are tardy to class 3 consecutive times (without a signed excuse) they will receive 1 day of detention.
- If the students fail to complete homework 3 consecutive times (without a signed excuse from the parent) they will
receive 1 day of detention.

Positive Reinforcement System:

I have a positive reinforcement system called Scholar Dollars. This system allows each student to earn reward
dollars for following classroom rules and procedures. There is a large chart posted in the classroom appropriately
titled, Scholar Dollar Chart. There are seven procedures/rules listed on the chart with the dollar amounts next to
them. The seven procedures/rules are as following:

Preparedness/Supplies-------------------------------------------- 5.00
Class Participation--------------------------------------------------- 5.00
Good Behavior------------------------------------------------------ 15.00
Homework-------------------------------------------------------------15.00
Starting on time------------------------------------------------------- 5.00
Coming to class on time-------------------------------------------

5.00

Each student must earn 940 scholar dollars (they are allowed to lose 60 dollars because no one is perfect) monthly
to qualify for a tangible academic reward.

School Net/Parent Portal:

School Net and Parent Portal are available for the parents and students to keep them informed about the students
progress and their courses.

Grading Rationale:
The goal in Read 180 is to successfully increase each students reading grade level and improve comprehension.
This is measured throughout the year with the Reading Inventory Assessment. The students will complete center
based assignments that will be graded. The students will also need to keep an organized binder that will also be
graded. Each activity, test, quiz, project, etc. bares the same weight. All are based on 100 points.
Grades will be updated in Parent Portal weekly.
*** This is a Pass/Fail course which means that all graded work will result in a final grade of P or F. Students are
expected to stay in this course for the entire year unless results from mid-year assessments indicate that the student
is ready to exit the program.
Homework/Assignments/ Information:
The students rarely receive homework. They are encouraged to read a library book at home on a regular basis, visit
the following site to stay connected with the Read 180 program at home (www.read180.com/ereads), and complete 1
- 2 projects during the year. Both projects will count as two grades. Information will be sent home with specific
details and the due dates of the projects.

Make-Up Assignments Policy:

Students are expected to complete make-up assignments after returning from an absence.
