Course Outline for 5 Weeks Intensive IELTS Preparation Course

The aim of the course is to prepare students for taking the IELTS test by teaching
OBJECTIVES
strategies necessary for this exam. It also familiarizes students with the structure of the
test and what tasks they may be expected to complete.

OUTCOMES At the end of five weeks study of IELTS Intensive Preparation Course students should be
able to:

English Skills You will learn to

Extract information from and understand a variety of academic-style texts including


Reading magazine, newspaper and journal-type articles. Focus on speed reading, skimming and
scanning, sentence completion, yes/no/not given-type comprehension questions.

Write short academic-style essays, including describing data or processes and presenting

arguments coherently and cohesively.

Understand a variety of general and academic-type listening with native British,


Listening
Australian, Canadian and non-native accents.

Make contributions to discussions on a variety of concrete and more abstract topics.


Speaking
Fluency, accuracy, range and relevance are practiced.
Review and practice all aspects of previously-learned grammar and any relevant new

structures. Focus on modals of speculation.

Vocabulary Topics Science and Technology, Transport and Environment, Employment, Education, Health
Issues, Economic Issues, Media, Human Rights, Crime and Punishment.

Others EXAM FOCUS – practice on all aspects of IELTS exam.

Note: The listening and speaking sections are the same for the General and Academic modules.
