Journey of Illness Management and Recovery (IMR)

Implementation in Brunei Darussalam

Brunei Darussalam
ABSTRACT
Objectives
This paper describes the journey and process of conducting Illness
Management and Recovery (IMR) programs in Brunei Darussalam to the
current date.
Contents
In the last decade, Occupational Therapy has focused on Activities of
Daily Living as a non-standardized form of assessment and treatment
approach for clients with mental illness in Brunei Darussalam. Most of
the treatment models used for the clients is effective in reducing the
symptoms but limited in prevention of relapse, empowerment of clients
and less opportunity for involvement of a multidisciplinary team. This
awareness led to the search for evidence-based practices to improve
outcomes. This brought forward the implementation of IMR program for
two groups in RIPAS Hospital. The original modules from Singapore
were translated into Malay Language and Islamic spiritual aspects were
included in parts of the program to provide for congruence with local
cultural beliefs. After the completion of the program, no follow-up was
done on the clients chosen goals. In 2014, we were involved with the
Community Rehabilitation Centre of the Psychiatry Department who
piloted this recovery program for a selected group of clients for 3
months. Two days training and hands-on practical exposure were
delivered to the staffs at the center.
Conclusion
Involvement of other staff from the Mental Health setting has facilitated
the evaluation of the effectiveness of the program. However, assessment
of the pilot showed lack of communication, insufficient training, and
usage of non-standardized contents of modules, poor follow-up on
consumers goals and lack of relapse prevention plans. Our program
scored reasonably well in the IMR fidelity scale (41/65) although it
scored poorly on the General Organizational Index (15/60).
Implementation of Illness Management and Recovery in Brunei can be
further improved through strong leadership, effective training and
committed staff to ensure the sustainability of an evidence-based
recovery program.

This study investigates the effect of board diversity in terms of gender and
ethnicity on dividend payout policy when a firm has free cash flow agency
problem. It also tests whether the probability of diverse boards would
minimize free cash flow agency problem through making large dividend
payments is more pronounced in firms with high ownership concentration.
We find that our results differ based on how corporate dividend policy is
measured, and vary by the level of free cash flows and ownership
concentration. More specifically, we find that womens (Malays) presence
on boards has positive impact on dividend yield (dividend payout), and this
effect conditional on the level of free cash flows generated by firms. Our
results also show that the role of female and Malay directors in forcing
controlling shareholders of firms with substantial free cash flows to cash
out the firms resources through making higher dividend payments is more
prominent when the firms ownership structure is concentrated in the hand
of largest shareholders. The findings of our study, to some extent, support
the government calls for increasing the number of women participation on
corporate boardrooms and the participation of Malays in corporate sector.

Chia seeds found to be a rich source of dietary fiber contain oil which is
high in omega6 and omega 3 fatty acids and helpful in the control of
cardiovascular diseases. Owing to its spectacular significance present
research has been designed to explore its effect on cholesterol level of the
individuals after consumption of chia seed oil supplemented ice cream.
Project was designed in such a manner that fat of ice cream was replaced
with chia seed oil in different proportions i.e., 25%, 50%,75%,100%.After
physico- chemical and sensory evaluation of ice cream ,best treatment was
selected and used for efficacy trials.
After baseline line study and thorough inclusion criteria 10 individuals
were selected and divided into two groups .One group treated as control
and the other was given chia seed oil supplemented l(50%) ice cream.
Significant decrease in cholesterol level was observed in the treated group
.18% decrease in cholesterol level was observed at 40th day followed by
8% at 20th day. Similarly 20% decrease in LDL cholesterol with 14%
increase in HDL cholesterol. It was recommended that further trials be
conducted with sophisticated techniques to completely replace saturated fat
in ice cream with unsaturated fats and to study its effect in hyperglycemia
and oxidative stress.

ABSTRACT
Information and communication technology (ICT) become a household
term globally and has brought radical change in the way people live, learn
and work. Office technology and management programme being an ICT
accentuated programme is designed to produce hybrid administrative
professionals who will stand up to the challenges of the intensely
computerized work place. Hence, e-learning is considered the best strategy
for achieving the mission of the programme because it provides flexible,
convenient, qualitative and collaborative learning. The paper therefore,
examined e-learning as a strategy for achieving the mission of office
technology and management programme in polytechnics of Nigeria.
Specifically, the paper x-rayed the concept of e-learning, the forms and
prospects of e-learning over the traditional method of teaching. Some
likely challenges were also highlighted and recommendations were made to
address the challenges identified. It is recommended among others that
adequate provision of ICT facilities should be made available to
polytechnics running OTM programme while OTM lecturers should update
their knowledge and skills on ICT to ensure effective adoption of elearning in teaching and learning OTM programme course units.

This paper is an elaboration of the research results generated from three

activities: a meta-analysis, field studies and reflexivity. The fieldwork took
place in Melaka and Dumai. The network of human smuggling in the
Malacca Strait takes three main forms: fraud and demand models and the
other is necessity model. The first two models are most often used as a tool
to investigate elements related to human trafficking, including human
smuggling. There are important differences to human smuggling of the
necessity model. In this area the root problem lies at and around the
invisible actors, including the state and other violence actors which
sometime the researcher tend to ignore. Human smuggling has affected
state security, from territorial security until the state power and sovereignty
including human security. Therefore, the most appropriate way to combat
human smuggling is a defensive strategy in which elements of ethics and

ABSTRACT
Traditional Africans are grossly endowed with rich and unprecedented
cultural values with which harmony, solidarity, orderliness, sanctity and
sanity are ensured within their community.Despite the fact that there were
no trained and armed security officers in the olden days as we have
today, yet their community were void of chaos. In view of this, this paper is
set to examine some of these African cultural values and how the force of
modernity has influenced its observance with a particular reference to the
Yorubas of Nigeria. An attempt also will be made to discuss the concept of
modernity and equally on how African cultural values were enforced in the
traditional societies. In conclusion, recommendations will be made on the
need to revive the traditional African cultural values as a panacea to the
high level of moral decadence in the modern African societies.

human development. Many state governments in India since IX plan
identified model of SHG Bank linkage program as best fit for women
empowerment. SHG federation model is an improved model of micro
finance which is run under the name Indira Kranthi Patham in the study
area Ranga Reddy district of Telangana. However, changing times also
observe the melt down of high expectations about the transformational
effects of micro finance. Several doubts are raised on genuineness of
gender equity that is brought by mere financial help. It is now widely felt
that a further probe is necessary about the process of empowerment that
exactly takes place.
The present study is an attempt to study the impact of that program on
SHG member loan beneficiaries. Respondents are divided into two
groups namely micro entrepreneurs and passive beneficiaries and the path
of empowerment for both these groups is identified. Multi group analysis is
done along with the study of pair wise parameters for assessing the
statistical significance of difference in paths. The study concludes that the
paths of empowerment are different for both the groups.

Perceptions and Awareness of Corruption in Georgia: Public Servants

vs the Public: Preliminary Findings
Nino Ghonghadze
School of Government, Georgian Institute of Public Affairs
ABSTRACT
Theoretically public awareness and perceptions of corruption are directly
connected to the corruption level in a country. Many international
organizations work on promotion of public corruption awareness as means
of reducing it in different countries. It is implied that high public awareness
of corruption, understanding of its negative effects and relevant laws, helps
society better regulate government, increase public scrutiny and thus make
officials be more cautious about their behavior. On the other hand, citizens
perceptions of what is acceptable or unacceptable might be decisive in any
governments efforts to curb corruption.
This study aims to find answers to the following research questions: What
are public officials and the general publics perceptions and awareness of
corruption in Georgia? What they think corruption is? What is their
acceptance of different acts of corruption, such as bribery, nepotism or
influence peddling? Are there differences in their perceptions and
awareness? Are factors such as gender, age and education related to their
perceptions and awareness?
Data are obtained through questionnaires consisting of a number of short
scenarios about different kinds of potentially corrupt acts. The
questionnaires will be completed by representatives of the Georgian public
service as well as by the general public. Non-probability sampling
technique will be used to generate the sample.
The findings of the study are of interest for several reasons. First, in the
light of Georgias anti-corruption efforts it is important to explore how
ready the representatives of the public service are for possible reforms, as

their awareness and perceptions must be connected with their future
choices of behavior. Second, it would be wise for any government to
consider social conceptions of corruption while developing their anticorruption policies. And third, the findings might have implications for
general study of corruption, for observing social attitudes and analyzing
how it fits within the general picture of corruption in a given country might
well provide ways to better understanding the phenomenon.

ABSTRACT
Traditional institution was the most relevant institution in all the Yoruba
towns and villages in the pre- colonial period. It represented the central
point of the peoples cultural, social, economic, political and spiritual
engagement. Traditional Yoruba rulers were the trustees of the various
communities and also responsible for the general well- being of their
people. For most of these functions to be achieved, there was the need for
laws and orders to guide the action and day to day life of the people. The
paper therefore sets to look at the roles played by the Yoruba traditional
institution in the maintenance of these laws and orders. The paper
articulates the structure of Yoruba traditional institution, the sources of
their laws and the instruments used in the maintenance of the laws and
orders .Historical analysis approach is explored in written this paper.

ABSTRACT
There is a strong ethical case to redress poverty and inequality in South
Africa and the South African Corporate sector is being called upon to take
responsibility for the ways their operations impact societies. They are now
concerned with applying sustainability principles to the ways in which they
conduct their business specifically in their social interactions with
stakeholders. This sees the South African corporate sector investing
millions to support sustainable community development and social

One of the more fundamental issues about sustainability in a business
context is the fact that directors have a fiduciary duty to take into account
interests of those stakeholders other than investors/shareholders. This
therefore places major importance on sustainability reporting through
reports on governance, economic, social and environmental performance
and is increasingly being regarded as a key form of stakeholder
engagement, and the most accepted formal way of communicating
sustainability and non-financial information to all stakeholders. Overall,
stakeholder responsive corporate governance results in a more
comprehensive understanding of corporate risk and opportunity while
contributing to a strong reputation over time.
As companies increasingly consider stakeholder issues and concerns when
making decisions, boards may incorporate a stakeholder engagement or
governance model, managing companies to increase value for all
stakeholder groups.
A number of methodologies may exist for the development of
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategies or how-to guides for
community engagement and investment, however, it lacks development in
the field of CSR Programme Evaluation. Integrated approaches to the
measurement thereof are still in burgeoning stages of development and
statistical data and/or empirical evidence is lacking at this point.
Trust and relationships take time to build but are valuable assets. To build
trust, a company must show it has listened and acted in response to
stakeholder concerns, this therefore means that ongoing communication
and reporting back to stakeholders is a very important component in any
engagement strategy. It is therefore important for the corporate sector to
not only evaluate the effectiveness of their CSI Programmes, but also to
measure the impact on both their beneficiary communities and their
business and subsequently on the Return on Investment (ROI)
This paper will therefore emphasize the role of the business sector in
community development. This paper will highlight a case of the South
African corporate sectors attempts to evaluate its effectiveness and impact
on beneficiary communities and how they quantify the impact of the
investment through successful CSR interventions.

as well as other related issues and also a various approaches dealing with
the dynamics and patterns of inter-ethnic group relationship. Such an
exercise will be followed by an analytical framework consisting of a set of

building in India.
After independence, the processes of socio-politico and economic
change, the ethnic dimensions of the power structure and the policies,
strategies as well as tactics adopted by various time to cope with the urges
and aspirations of various ethnic groups provide the wider setting for an
understanding of ethnicity and the processes of nation building. Ethnic
groups raise their voices against the power authority for their ethnic
identity, language identity, socio-economic backwardness as a whole

This study investigated the impact of low patronage of made-in-Nigeria

goods on economic growth of Nigeria, using textiles products as a case
study. One hundred and seventeen respondents comprising manufacturers,
marketers and consumers of locally manufactured textiles were interviewed
through self administered questionnaire. Using statistical method of chisquare, t- test, and correlation analyses, the results showed that while
Nigerians are fairly satisfied with made-in- Nigeria goods due to low
quality, the goods are also not well publicized by the marketers. The study
also confirmed that there exists no variation between male and female
preference for foreign products. Implications for marketing management
for domestic promotion campaign and directions for further studies were
also addressed.

Present study aims to find factor that can shape the process of leaving
religion and accepting secularism other than what previous theories
mentioned. The factor is named reflective cognitive style. Hypothetically,
manipulation of reflective cognitive style should influence religious and
secular belief. This hypothesis is manifested within two studies. First study
aims to answer whether there is difference on religious belief between
participants that is given manipulation that favor reflective cognitive style
and participants that is given manipulation that dislike reflective cognitive
style. For this study, the samples are 56 college students of Universitas
Indonesia. Manipulation for second study is no different with first study.
But for second study, secular belief is measured as dependent variable. The
samples are 64 college students of Faculty of Psychology Universitas
Indonesia. Statistical test shown that there is no effect of reflective
cognitive style manipulation on religious belief, but there is effect on
secular belief. Secularization model, are thus, being formulated. In this
formulation, secularization is linked with secular belief but not with
religious belief. And so, reflective cognitive style became one factor that
can influence individual secular belief.

Mother tongue is the first language that is learned by language speakers.

UNESCO captures the concerns to the world that continue to lose their
mother languages. UNESCO estimates that approximately 3,000 languages
will extinct by the end of this century. In the midst of these concerns there
are still some tribes in Indonesia who still retain their mother tongue,
among others, the Bugis and Madura tribe in the village of Kemujan,
Karimunjawa. Both tribes have their own reasons and ways to maintain
their native language. The purpose of this study is to find out why and how
the preservation of Bugis and Madura language are. The method used is
descriptive qualitative method. Stages in the method include the
preparation, dissemination of research instruments, data collection, data
analysis, and reporting. Meanwhile, the data collection techniques used are
interview and the distribution of questionnaires. The results of the study are
in the form of reason and manner of Bugis and Madura tribe in
maintaining their language. The language used is preserved due to several
reasons, including Bugis and Madura society appreciates language brought
by the ancestors, wants to show identification, communication needs,
economic needs, and feel they have their own native language. Some of
these reasons applied in two ways, namely retention in the family
environment and preservation in the community. The research results can
be used as a reference for mother tongues in Indonesia and other country
which have extinct mother tongues. So with those preservation efforts of
the mother tongues can be preserved well.

In some parts of the world, Women are regarded and considered inferior to
their Male counterparts in the development of the Society. Certainly, the
role of Women in any Society is very enormous. They are the mothers and
thus, the backbone of any Society. There is a saying behind every
successful man is a Woman. Women have been vicissitudes of time. But
yet, the most striking thing is that very little attention has actually been
accorded to their contributions. In West Africa, research and studies have
been conducted on Women in different societies in the region. The findings
however, were not well adequate and properly documented. Therefore,
serious attention is to be given to the role of Women in old and
contemporary Societies more especially in the Islamic sub region which
recoded various progressive Societies in the 17th and 18th centuries.
Among these Societies included Sokoto Caliphate were Women left an
indelible mark in the success of the jihad Movement. They contributed to
the development of the Society intellectually, morally and economically.
This necessitates the need to set out an outline on the contributions of
Women to the progress and prosperity of this great Caliphate.

ABSTRACT
Al-Quran is the holy scripture of Muslims. It is undoubtedly believed to
contain all the possible solutions of all human issues. Being the final
revelation of Allah, It is enriched with a huge number of features that are
working as tools to ensure its inimitability, uniqueness and timeless
effectiveness. Its language is crafted with such a sophisticated linguistic
excellence that even the pagan Arabs (the first non-believing recipients)
used to be amazed and speechless. The Quranic challenge to imitate even a
single one of its verses is yet to be attempted. Sinse its very revelation and
onward it attracted a huge concentration of western and eastern scholars of
various disciplines of thought. The artistic set up of the Quranic language,
the ever renewing significance of its thoughts and its much leaning and
human friendly dealings with problematic human issues are believed to be
the premier motivations of all such scholarly studied. Among these most
recently developed disciplines the aestheticians are the most modernist

thinkers to approach the holy Quran. These thinkers noticed that; the holy
Quran frequently used the terms jamal, husn, ahsan , zeenah etc. words
which refers to beauty in a good number of its verses. The appeal becomes
so obvious when the prophet (S.A) states: certainly Allah is beautiful and
he prefers beauty. Moreover the Quran has directed the thoughtful people
to investigate into the beauty embedded within the universe around.
Furthermore the Quran has not only emphasized on beauty as the core
essence of all creation but also called all humankind to worship Allah
keeping this sense of beauty with whatever they offer to attain Allahs
nearness. So it is among the core duties of a believer to develop a
beautified attitude and respect in whatever he performs
matters from a different point of view than that of eastern ones; which is in
the long run generated a quiet different understanding of the said matters.
To us the difference of philosophy and the ethical tradition of the both
parties are mostly responsible for such contradictions. In this article the
prime focus will be on the eastern approach of understanding the
previously mentioned Quranic terms and related verses to examine the
most popular claim that the holy Quran is not only a religious scripture but
also is a masterly exposure of Allahs beauty through wards and his
creation is purely the translation and interpretation of that beautiful sense.
Taking all this issues into consideration the thinkers systemically
approached the holy Quran. They firstly developed a methodology of
research to study this trend in the Holy Scripture; and accordingly they
tried to analyze the meaning, context and effect of these lexes in
maximizing the output of its phraseology. Secondly; they examined the
philosophical, metaphysical and axiological aspects and facts of this beauty
centric approach of the holy Quran.

In recent years, Turkeys expenditures in humanitarian aid tremendously

escalated from 85 million dollars in 2003 to 3.5 billion dollars in 2013.
Turkey, ranked the fourth among emergency donor countries of the world,
has been providing humanitarian aid to more than one hundred countries on
five continents. Substantial amount of these aids, provided for Middle East
and North African (MENA) countries, consist of nutrition and aimed to
meet the food demand in crisis areas, carrying out Turkeys humanitarian

This region is also the worlds most food import dependent region that
imports half of its wheat needs, and consequently is affected socially and
economically from the peaks in global food prices. Given such conditions
of the region, it is believed by this study that Turkeys humanitarian
diplomatic initiatives toward MENA countries should exceed the aim of
existing in crisis areas, and be somehow leading for prevention of such
food insecurity in the region. Following this way, by the aid of its
governmental and non-governmental humanitarian aid agencies, Turkey
should try to provide technical assistance for decreasing food import
dependency of regional countries and establishing necessary local food
systems that would not be severely affected from the volatility in global
food prices.

ABSTRACT
Traditionaly, our understanding of poverty has been based on comparisons
of standardized quantitative measures including income and welfare
statistics. However, measuring changes over time requires consistent
definitions and measurement of poverty indicators. Likewise, Malaysias
poverty assessments have relied largely upon data derived from census
which is of quantitative in nature. However, aggregate data based on
quantitative method alone do not reveal the more subjective elements of
poor peoples experiences of poverty or the ways in which individuals
cope. Besides, recent studies show a shift in paradigm towards qualitative
methods. Given the multi-dimensional nature of poverty, quantitative
methods need to be complemented with qualitative measures. Having said
that, is the qualitative method practical and fitting enough to measure the
human perspective in poverty? This paper attempts to demonstrate that
both quantitative and qualitative methods are essential in providing holistic
understanding of poverty. Available research on poverty was scrutinized to
illustrate this.. The paper concludes by providing implication of using both
methods. Based on content analysis, extensive review of secondary data
was undertaken to examine and understand the rising phenomenon of
current paper on poverty in Malaysia. . Given the multi-dimensional nature
of poverty, quantitative methods need to be complemented with qualitative
measures.

Islam is a way of life. Islam guides Muslims in all aspects, including their
worship, social, and economic life. Zakat has been one of the tools given
by Islam in solving socio-economic problem in Muslim society. Nowadays,
the reality of students life have been very challenging. Students, apart
from devoting their intellectual to knowledge, they also have to strive for
getting financial independency. Majority students in college especially
private college needs financial supports in order to live in comfort student
life. Thus, this study eexplores the potential of Zakat in minimizing
Muslim students financial difficulties. Secondly, this study discovers the
realities of students life and their challenges. Thirdly, this study
recommends solutions in solving students problems. The study employed
conceptual research method by reviewing various literature and 2014
reports from Zakat institutions in Malaysia. The findings showw that, in
principle, students can be eligible to be included in the eight Asnaf and
hence able to receive Zakat. Furthermore, the methods of Zakat distribution
among students need to be more proactive either by accessing the students
by institution or making arrangement through institutions. Zakat also plays
a vital role in improving Muslims life by encouraging them in having
knowledge advancement. These are parallel with the objectives of Shariah
(Maqasid Shariah). This research is significant as it gives Zakat
institutions opportunities to find more of its potential and roles in assisting
and improving societies. Students also will be benefited with the proactive
implementation of Zakat.

Rhizosphere is a rich niche of microbes and should be explored for

obtaining plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), which enhance
the growth of the plant either directly or indirectly. A total of 144
rhizobacteria were isolated from rhizospheric soil of Z. armatum DC. A
total of 12 different genera were identified. 29.17% were Bacillus followed
by Pseudomonas (21.53%), Klebsiella, Micrococcus (6.25%) each,
Staphylococcus, Azotobacter, Flavobacterium and Serratia being 4.86%
each, Xanthomonas (3.47%), Alcaligenes and Enterobacter (2.78%) each
and Azospirillium (0.69%). All isolates were tested for PGPR properties.
IAA ranged from 0.6930.83g/ml to 73.411.95g/ml. The ability to
solubilize phosphate was positively exhibited by 67 isolates, ranging from
21.41.02% to 309.11.63%. A total of 61 isolates produced siderophore

Applicability Of International Criminal Law During Forced Migration

Of Women
Shreyas Negi, Naini Swami
Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur
ABSTRACT
This paper concentrates on the gender paradigm of international criminal
law and highlights the significant ignorance towards the sufferings which
women endure in consequence of armed conflict. To analyse this issue, this
paper concentrates on the crimes against women, which are scarcely
discussed in the framework of International Criminal law. These harms
encompass assault, rape, sexual violence and other harms which do not fall
under the ambit of conventional criminal structure, but are the product of
opportunistic acts during forced displacement.
The initial part of this paper covers the harms suffered by refugees at the
hands of relatives, acquaintances and strangers, who are not acting in
furtherance of any dispute. It further examines the purview of the Rome
Statute with respect to these crimes. Even though the provisions of the
Rome Statue do not cover such opportunistic acts directly, but a liberal
interpretation of such provisions with the assistance of international
refugee law offers a means through which the ambit of these provisions can
be adequately expanded.
The core objective of international criminal law is to focus on crimes of
such a grave nature that they could be brought under the broad umbrella of
harms against all humankind. Atrocities against women in situations of
forced displacement are often deemed sufficiently grave to be considered
as a significant part of this goal.
International criminal law requires a fundamental reconstruction, which
will include expansion of the scope and application in situations of crimes
against women during forced displacement. Arigid, well-defined structure
and provisions which specifically focus on opportunistic crimes against
women in cases of forced migration, would be the most efficient means to
deal with this crucial and pertinent issue. Other legal avenues like human
rights laws can also be sought in finding a solution to this issue. This issue

This research focuses on minority groups in Pakistan, their living

condition, role and constitutional rights as Pakistani nationals. This study
tries to find out causes behind violation of rights of minorities in Pakistan
and poses suggestions for safeguarding their rights. Pakistan is rated among
the most dangerous places in the world, not only for international tourists
also for minorities that are part of Pakistani social fabric as lawful citizens.
There are several reasons that cause failure to safeguard rights of minorities
in Pakistan. Religious elite and political elite professing the religion of
majority namely Islam are directly responsible for the violence against
minorities in Pakistan. As violence and intolerance has set stronghold into
the social dealings, it has smeared Pakistan's international identity from
that of a heterogeneous and tolerant society to fundamental Islamist and a
terrorist state. Government has failed to deliver its duty as a mediator and a
governing body in order to ensure enforcement of laws without impartiality
where human life is under threat, or when blasphemy laws are being
manipulated to settle personal differences.
Pakistans history and
significant personalities involved in the
independence struggle have believed in the idea of Pakistan as a
harmonious one, where all factions of the society, religious, sectarian,
sexual and racial could live together under single national identity, as only
Pakistanis.
This study has utilized primary and secondary sources to analyze the
causes behind political manipulation of religion and poses suggestions for
accountability. Both qualitative and quantitative methods have been used
by the researcher. Interviews and survey has been conducted to understand
the problem. Research methodology is analytical and descriptive in nature.
It has been concluded that because there isnt any fear of consequences to
violators of human rights, and because justice system is plagued with
corruption, while government entities are involved in instigating religious

In recent years, the concept of social entrepreneurship and its obvious

relationship with the economic development and social change has gained
some level of importance across the world and in the general discourse of
academics and policymakers. However its lack of understanding prevents
the third sector to spouse social enterprise processes and bring about a real
change in the lives of the vulnerable groups. The aim of this study is to
explore the problems faced by not for profit organizations and suggests the
measures to remove the constraints to social entrepreneurship development
in order to bring sustainability in the NGO world in Mauritius .
Survey datas were collected from 39 leaders from the NGO sector
illustrated in three distinct steps. The study starts by investigating on
profile of NGOs and the entrepreneurial features in the activities of NGOs
in Mauritius. The second part investigates about the problems faced by
NGO to adopt such programmes and evaluate the effectiveness and
relevance that it might provide to the local social landscape. The third part
seeks to examine the existence of social motives that enhance the element
of care, linkages with the community and social resilience.
The study suggested a number of internal and external factors in the areas
of: policy and legal framework, knowledge and opportunity development,
human and financial resources, contextual factors such as markets and
social value. It further brings to surface a debate of the implications for
practitioners, policy makers and researchers in social entrepreneurship.
This study implies that to develop a comprehensive social enterprise
culture in the third sector, a relevant policy framework, positive
reinforcement through financial inputs and expertise will foster the
necessary climate for the development of social entrepreneurs in Mauritius.
However, the study does not concentrate on a particular NGO and does not
target a specific region in Mauritius.

Like democracy and globalization, the concept of sustainable development
has become one of the most ubiquitous, contested, and indispensable
concepts of our time. Although the concept was first introduced in response
to environmental concerns, it has been defined primarily by the mainstream
tradition of economic analysis, which tends to marginalize the issue of
ecological sustainability itself. This paper examines the presuppositions,
logic, and major themes of mainstream sustainable development theory,
primarily within economics, and explores the critiques of mainstream
analysis offered by various poststructuralist cultural theorists and
ecological Marxists. Although considered to be superior in their greater
emphasis on ecological sustainability, neither of these critical approaches is
deemed adequate in itself. The argument here instead leads to the
conception that an adequate approach to sustainable development requires
combining insights from various critical approaches and perspectives.

ABSTRACT
To increase revenues and profits Customer Relationship Management
(CRM) is an integral part of marketing in an organization. It majorly
contributes to develop, maintain and enhance effective customer
relationships as it is the fact that loyal customers are more responsive to
marketing actions and in cross- selling. CRM is extremely important for
business to customers as well as for business to business in sales and
marketing context. However, successful implementation of Customer
relationship management (CRM) is a complex and challenging task it
requires intensive research and proper strategies to implement. To find the
complications and resolutions, this paper presents various strategies to
implement CRM successfully in an organization through extensive
literature reviews, theories and modules from the field of CRM. The study
discusses how to identify a variety of zones to address in order to achieve
the long -run profitable customer relationship.

ABSTRACT
This paper focuses on a priori risk management alternatives open to
individuals and organisations, especially small business organisations
(SBOs) in emerging communities. It is an examination of the various TRM
practices considered to be non-probabilistic. It proposes a natural way of
managing risk prior to considering conventional and contractual risk
management method like insurance, especially where it is expensive and
probably unaffordable. The emergent of natural disasters at homes,
workplaces and habitable environments and the attendant and almost
unmitigated loss exposure through insurance system has called for this
investigation. And because insurance is just one method of managing risk,
there is need to explore other complementary methods that may not
necessarily involve the intrigues of probability calculations, premium
payment and claim administration. Being a conceptual paper, the method of
inquiry is basically a review of extant literature with intensive archival and
document readership (ADR).The various TRM loss-related areas examined
include property, liability, personnel and non income loss exposures. The
TRM practices found to be useful in managing these loss exposures include
parameter fencing, intangible heritage, control of urban sprawling,
preserving traditional mud-brick and timber-laced dwellings, cross training,
succession planning, drainage surveillance and good land use and forest
conservation etc. In conclusion, these practices are natural ways of
preventing the occurrence of undesired event and does not provide for
probabilistic calculations and prediction of uncertain future events. Now
that catastrophic risk occurrence has assumed a new dimension, TRM
constitute a priori expected risk management framework for managing risk
by individuals and organizations while thinking about conventional
insurance in emerging communities.

ICT as an Opportunity for the Realization of National Development

Mohamad tavakol
Department of Sociology of Information Society University of Tehran
ABSTRACT
We repeatedly hear that we have crossed the Information Revolution, live
at the Age of Information, and as far as developing countries are
concerned, we are moving towards the Information Society. ICT is the
framework within which these dialogues are formed and terms are defined.
But how far Africa has enjoyed from ICT possibilities and achieved its
consequences. It is a bitter fact that for example though Sub-Saharan Africa
accommodates 10% of the worlds total population it enjoys less than
0.1%(namely one tenth of one percent) of ICT applicationsaccording to
some estimates. But what are the obstacles to exploit the opportunity of
taking ICTs in the service of the realization of Third World Countries
Development? --And how to overcome them?
If the road to sustainable developments passes through Science and
Technology, S&T is now more accessible, easier, and cheaper for Africa,
Asia, and Latin America through ICTs and by means of Virtual
Universities, e-journals, e-libraries, Virtual Research, Joint-Projects by
Networking to include Diaspora, etc etc . Moreover ICT can greatly
facilitate the economic progress(new jobs, better productivity, digital
communication services), social development(bridging social gaps,
promoting education via IT based technologies) , cultural
advancement(promoting tolerance, dialogue, awareness), and political
achievements(increasing participation via e-services, NGOs, transparency).
The paper will embark on the details of these opportunities possible for the
developing world.

ABSTRACT
Communication, along with management direction, was identified as most
important if the organization was to succeed. However, an imbalance exists
between the perceived importance of communications and the actual
attention and resources given toward it. Internal communication is often
overlooked as being common sense, and is usually left to the devices of the
human resources department at the policy-making level. Therefore,
although increasing awareness concerning the importance of effective

ABSTRACT
The issue of corruption is a matter of concern both for governments and for
the masses. So it draws special attention of the academicians, particularly
to the political scientists. Like all developing countries India also faces
high level of corruption. Various political scams and scandals have dolled
the Indian political scenario. Not only political corruption but also
bureaucratic or judicial corruption have dolled the worlds one of the most
largest democratic country India. Moreover corruption has left a deep
impact on our national economic growth, we loose our national wealth as a
form of black money, the level of poverty, the difference between the poor
and the rich, criminal activities in the society has increased day to day.
So recently in 2011 an anti-corruption movement was launched by the
Gandhian social activist Anna Hazare and India Againt Corruption group
against the Indian government. From these movements emerged one of the
most controversial political parties in Indian politics in recent times the
Aam Admi Party( AAP). Arvind Kejriwal and the founder leader of the
party ultimately achieved a huge success (twenty eight seats out of seventy
seats in the Delhi Legislative election)against the most popular Congrees
party leader and three time Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, within sixteen
months of its formation. Famous journalists and political analysts Goutam
Chikermane and Soma Banerjee wrote in their book more surprising was
the unsolicited support Congress gave to AAP, almost dragging it, kicking
and screaming, to power. Overnight, the former Income Tax Commissioner
Arvind Kejriwal who had turned into an anti-corruption activist and had
fought a long battle to bring an anti-corruption law, became the Chief

ABSTRACT
This article describes the existing knowledge of convenience in physical
store channel as well as online channel before embarking on the
multichannel side of convenience. Convenience is likely to vary across
industries and services.
Even among consumer market segments,
convenience value may differ. Building a consumer focused convenience
into products and service offerings is important in retailing to consumers
who value time and who do not want to take so much effort in acquiring
what they want. It has been found that convenience i.e. space availability
and information dissemination influence satisfaction which in turn
influences their loyalty to certain retailers. In Multichannel retailing
benefits are gained by customers when two (2) or more retail channels are
coordinated; more value (benefit) is gained from convenience compared to

ABSTRACT
Pakistan is under severe terrorists attacks for the past few years and it has
almost shaken the national infrastructure to the core. On December 16,
2014, terrorists attacked Army Public School and brutally massacred the
students and teachers. Various steps were taken to counter terrorism prior
to this attack but this incident brought all institutions on the same page to
devise a concrete policy against the terrorists. One of the solutions
Pakistans army put forward was the establishment of military courts in the
country so that prompt decisions on punishments can be taken. This
research study was designed to know the effectiveness and long term
impacts on the security policy of the country and its significance. The
objectives to carry out this research were designed to analyze the situation
before and after the establishment of military courts and to identify the
viability of military courts in Pakistan. To accomplish these objectives, a
primary as well as secondary study comprised of semi-structured
interviews from different army men, lawyers and people from the academia
and articles from different newspapers and research articles was conducted.
It can be concluded from the study that the establishment of military courts
is a viable decision but civilian courts along with National Internal Security

ABSTRACT
Technologies have made it easier for use to create, access, manage and
deliver information online. The emergence of the Internet and particularly
of web 2.0 based social media has reduced the geographical barriers and
changed the ways people interact with each other. Anyhow, there are
potential concerns associated along with this increased connectivity and
interaction. These applications are the future of communication. However,
less efforts have been made to understand people behavior for these
services. Understanding people acceptance or adoption to these services
important and challenging job in IS research. In the domain of information
system and behavioral sciences, there are a number of theories and models
that are applied to find the most suitable answers, which sometimes fails to
provide the needed results. Prior literature commented that integrating of
models or selecting factors across the available resources, is a better step to
understand the desired behavior. The objective of the current study to know
the effectiveness of models integration across IS domains. The study
reviewed the literature, particularly integrated models or theories such as
TAMs, UTAUT, and Big Five. It is concluded from the review that
integration of TAMs and Big Five can better positively explain technology
acceptance behavior.

analysed across different investment horizons. The findings show that
small stocks outperform big stocks prior to the Asian financial crisis. In the
post-crisis period, big stocks generally outperform small stocks. These
findings hold for all investment horizons. Further, value stocks generally
outperform their growth counterparts across all investment horizons. In
addition, the momentum premium is substantially negative in the period
surrounding the Asian financial crisis but moderately positive or near zero
in other times. Second, variations in the returns on size, value, and
momentum mimicking portfolios across economic states are examined by
employing discrete state analysis. The results indicate that the size
premium is countercyclical. In contrast, value and momentum premiums do
not vary significantly across economic states irrespective of the variable
employed to define economic states, suggesting that these anomalies may
not be related to macroeconomic risk factors in Malaysia.

Post-Earnings Announcement Drift in the Malaysian Stock Market

ABSTRACT
This study is a novel attempt to examine the existence of post-earnings
announcement drift (PEAD) and its determinants in the Malaysian stock
market. This study examines whether the PEAD anomaly is attributable to
market risk, arbitrage risk, liquidity, transaction costs, size, book-to-market
ratios and investor sophistication. The findings reveal that an earnings
surprise has strong predictive power with respect to PEAD. Further, the
results show a significant negative effect of turnover on PEAD, suggesting
that liquidity encourages arbitrage activities and enhances the extent to
which earnings information is efficiently priced. The results are robust to
using three different sample periods and alternative measures of liquidity
and arbitrage risks. The findings are also robust to constructing
standardised unexpected earnings portfolios based on the ex-ante quintile
breakpoints and using a sample of stocks that trade every day of the 60-day
event window following the announcement date. Moreover, a strategy
based on PEAD yields a three-month post-announcement return of
approximately 3.35 per cent. However, estimated transaction costs
eliminate all profits generated from strategies based on PEAD. The results
have significant implications for market participants to identify mispricing
and execute earnings-based investment strategies.

ABSTRACT
The dynamic of the American family has changed rapidly over the past 30
years. Long gone are the days of the traditional breadwinning fathers and
care giving mothers. Most households are now comprised of duel income
parents and single parent families. The changes in family structure call for
new approaches in how businesses and families adjust to work-life conflict.
This study looks at the major changes in family structure and the common
work- life challenges faced by the different family dynamics. The first part
of the study will define traditional and nontraditional families. The next
portion will focus on the common work-life issues associated with each
family structure. Finally, the last section will offer suggestions for both
workplaces and families to improve work-life balance in America.

were distributed to the students of Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, Jeli
Campus, and the people around Jeli, Kelantan for feedbacks and
knowledge of this product especially the benefit of hibiscus flower to the
health of the consumer. The survey analysis showed that most of
respondents are concerned about their health, but not many of them take
health supplements. Hibiscus tea produced from the hibiscus flower will be
introduced as a health supplement. The survey showed good acceptances
among the consumers as most of respondents had positive response to the
health beverage concept of tea. From this study it was apparent that
hibiscus tea would be suitable as health supplement product. This study is
also hoped to change the perception towards hibiscus as not only a
decorative plant but also of health and wellness value.

School Of Business Management, Universiti Utara Malaysia
ABSTRACT
Technopreneurial potential of graduates has become one of the national
agenda and has been attracting the interest of policy makers, educationists
and development agencies. In this respect, a major expectation has been
placed upon higher education to play a leading role in generating
enterprising graduates in general and into self-employment in business in
particular through scientific research. In Malaysia, the numbers of
graduate students participate in technopreneur development and incubation
programs (TEDIP) are still far below the expectation and financial
allocation by the government.
This study aims to identify key the
influencing factors among participants to participate and to remain in the
TEDIP, as well as to construct new theories that contribute to the
knowledge on technopreneur development (TED). Mix method research
was applied in the study. The samples were chosen based on judgment
sampling i.e. government and Malaysian IHL key informant for the

comprise of Master of Science Technopreneurship participants in
Malaysian IHL for both quantitative and qualitative study. The quantitative
data was completely collected through electronic questionnaire survey
using ShareSurvey software. To ensure the internal consistency reliability
of the data, all data gathered from surveys were tested with Cronbach's
alpha. Descriptive analyses were used to analyze and summarize data
including of frequency and central tendency. Feedback from quantitative
study was used to design unstructured interview form for the qualitative
study which can sharpen the clarity of results, strengthen the validity of
findings, and enhance the credibility of conclusions. The result highlighted
Seven (7) primary factors and Ten (10) secondary factors that have
influenced the TEDIP participants to participate, as well as Eighteen (18)
primary factors for participants to remain in the program. On the basis of
finding, the model developed will hopefully help the TED organization to
increase the number of participants in TEDIP. The policy makers and the
TED agencies may utilize this result to develop further TED program in the
country.

ABSTRACT
This research paper is to examine and to discuss the importance of skills
and experiences in technology entrepreneur new venture creation among
young technical graduate. The study employs mixed methods research
design approach with in-depth interviews and surveys, followed by
interviews with the Control Group. The samples were chosen based on
convenience sampling among undergraduate technical students (UGTS) for
quantitative study and, and judgment sampling among young high-tech
venture companies from Malaysia and other two developed countries i.e.
United Kingdom (UK) and United States of America (USA). The finding
shows that both skills and experiences are correspondingly important for
technology entrepreneur new venture creation (TENVC) among technical
students and IHLs. This finding is convergent with the outcome from the
case study analysis that both factors are among the key indicators for
TENVC among UGTS and also the achievement level of TENVC in IHLs.
The technology entrepreneur development organizations (TEDO) may
utilize this result in developing TENVC in their institution.

ABSTRACT
In this paper we aim to examine the effectiveness of Al-Rahnu (Islamic
pawn broking) services in fulfilling and enhancing socio-economic needs
of its users as an alternative source of managing short term cash flow
problem. To achieve our objectives we conducted a survey in two cities of
Malaysia: Kuantan and Kuala Terengganu in the states of Pahang and
Terengganu respectively. A sample of 128 users of Ar-Rahnu services were
used to collect data through distributing a semi-structured questionnaire.
The results were analyzed via the cross tabulation using excel spreadsheets.
The findings from this study revealed that the community, especially the
Malay ethnicity found Al-Rahnu services effective in fulfilling their needs
of getting access to small short term loans with fast and hassle freeway and
hence making them loyal to Al-Rahnu services. This implies that the Arrahnu services are well accepted as a better mean to ease short term
financial difficulties and hence able to empower socio-economic needs of
the people. The fulfillment of needs are derived from two main components
of Al-Rahnu survey questions i.e. the loan tenure and the loan sufficiency.

deaths are delayed, while more births are facilitated. However, many
nations in Southeast Asia do not have the land space and regulatory
structure to manage the convergence of development and population
growth. This paper addresses the challenge of nations in the region, such
as Singapore, face in crafting policy that effectively continues economic
growth, while also taking into account the need to construct and maintain
infrastructure capable of managing the increasing strain placed on urban
centers. Using Singapore as a case study, we examine the city-states use
of underground space to identify effective land-use policies and present
policy options for other burgeoning nations in Southeast Asia, which are
forced to balance land constraints and rapid population growth.

A Changing Discourse on the Red Cross Society of China

ABSTRACT
This paper explores the place of non-governmental organisations (NGOs)
in China where the Communist Party of China (CCP) has such an extensive
influence over society that the Western notion of NGOs operating in civil
society has to be reconceptualised. To analyse this unique situation, this
paper examines the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC), a member of the
International Federation that has had a distinct role in China but also
provides a general exemplar of how NGOs operate within a Party-State
environment. The research traces the origin of the Red Cross Society of
China, exploring the reasons why it moved to Taiwan in 1949 and how it
was reorganised in Mainland China. This research is significant as it goes
beyond services the Red Cross Society of China provides to citizens and
places these services within Western theories on the public sphere and civil
society. It surveys archives to support the perspective on theoretical and the
changing of the Red Cross Society of China.

A study of economic reasons for out-migration of Moroccan women to

France
Tanushree, Sarvsureshth Dhammi & Keshari Prasad
Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi
ABSTRACT
Moroccan economy is an underdeveloped economy, dependant on its
colonial masters to support its economy. There has been close ties of
Morocco and France historically, as France colonised Morocco and
Moroccan population was used by France to serve them as soldiers in wars,
slaves etc. This led to an increased immigration of Moroccan population to
France. Following the Moroccan male immigration to France, Moroccan
women also started migrating to France. The reasons of Moroccan women
migration have changed over a time as now most Moroccan females
migrate for economic or educational reasons to France. Over the years,
there has been an increased migration of Moroccan women to France. The
reasons for this immigration has been diverse mostly economic. Moroccan
population suffers at the hands of issues like unemployment, poverty, and
scarcity of infrastructural facilities in Morocco. This makes the Moroccan
women more vulnerable and left with less or no economic opportunities
making them flee from their country to France. France offers Moroccan
women with better facilities and opportunities to earn their living. France
offers Moroccan women with better job opportunities than Morocco, which
makes them, immigrate to France. It is important to analyse these reasons,

which can serve for better economic development in Morocco. There could
be a better prospect of multi-dimensional development in Morocco if better
infrastructure facilities are developed back in Morocco equal for all men
and women, it would serve for a better development of not only Moroccan
economy but also its masses.

ABSTRACT

Pari Island is located in the cluster of the Seribu Islands, Jakarta. In the
island, there are three unique tropical coastal ecosystems, which are rich
with living resources that provide a wide range of beneficial products and
environmental services for the communities of Pari Island. However, along
with the growing population, the ecosystems and living resources in Pari
Island are under heavy pressure from pollution and overfishing. This
exploitation is destructive without considering the conservation and
sustainability of resources. There are many strategies for the management
and conservation of living resources. One of the most effective strategies is
environmental education. Previous studies have shown that most adults in
Pari Island have awareness about marine environmental issues, but they
rarely participate in conservation efforts. Rather than focusing on adults,
conservation education at earliest possible age has the potential to improve
environmental practices on Pari Island. This paper suggests an early
childhood education program for coastal conservation of Pari Island: (1) to
make children more knowledgeable and aware how to manage coastal
resources, and (2) to develop skills or strategies to protect the Pari Island
coastal zone.

Mother tongue is the first language that is learned by language speakers.

UNESCO captures the concerns to the world that continue to lose their
mother tongues. UNESCO estimates that approximately 3,000 language
will extinct by the end of this century.
