Nueva Ecija Good Samaritan Health System Inc. is located at the heart of Cabanatuan
City, Nueva Ecija. A 150 bed capacity privately owned hospital. It has varied state of the art
facilities namely: Mammography unit, Fluoroscopy unit, Eye laser center, Ultrasound unit, CT
scan unit, 2D echocardiogram unit, Dialysis unit, Endoscopy unit, EEG unit and Medical
Laboratory.
Work assignment is at the Clinical Laboratory and Pathology Department. The
department is composed of 6 sections namely: Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Clinical
Microscopy, Blood Bank and Serology/Immunology, Histopathology and Microbiology.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The primary responsibility of the Medical Technologist is to perform

examinations on human specimens in order to assist physicians in correct patient
diagnosis and patient management either for blood chemistry, hematology, clinical
microscopy, bacteriology, blood banking, serology and immunology or
endocrinology.
A Medical Technologist exercises quality assurance program starting from patient
up to obtaining and relaying patients results and performs quality control in
laboratory management and laboratory procedures.
Performs other responsibilities and functions related to a Medical Technologists
area of specialization as directed by superiors or by chief Medical technologists
and extends ones own expertise when the situation warrants for it.
Also, performs phlebotomy on patients from neonates to intensive type.
Performs troubleshooting of some machines with minor problems.
BLOOD BANKING AND SEROLOGY
Performs cross matching using standard tube technique (Coombs)
Performs immediate spin cross match for emergency cases (Emergency Cross match)
Performs ABO blood grouping using forward and reverse typing (Tube Technique)
Performs direct antiglobulin test (DAT) and indirect antiglobulin test (IAT)(Coombs
Test)
Performs crossmatching, direct and indirect typing in DIAMED-ID microtyping
System.
Uses ELISA Method for confirmation of HBsAg and Anti HBs Ab.
Performs C3 determination using radial immunodiffusion method.

 Uses ABBOTT (Determine) as screening test for HBsAg, HIV 1 and 2,and
SYPHILIS.
Performs TYPHIDOT test kit and EIA for early detection of typhoid fever.
Performs ASO Titer, RF, CRP test using Latex agglutination and tube titration
technique.
Performs Dengue Ns1 and IgG/IgM screening test for prompt diagnosis of dengue
fever.
HEMATOLOGY
Performs complete blood count (RBC, WBC, HGB, HCT, PLATELET COUNT) and
blood indeces (MCV, MCH, MCHC) using SYSMEX KX-21, SYSMEX XS-1000i
and BC-300 Hematology Analyzer also CELL DYN
Performs hematological examinations such as complete blood count, bleeding time
and clotting time, PT,PTT, ESR, Reticulocyte count.
Performs Coagulation testing using BIOBAS-1.
MICROBIOLOGY
Performs bacteriological examination such as culture of blood, urine, pus, stool,
vaginal discharge, nasal and throat swab.
Performs gramstain and acid fast stain.
Prepare culture media for various specimen, i.e.,BAP, McConkey, SSA,
CAP,MHA,TSB,TSI,LIA,SIM, Selenite.
CLINICAL CHEMISTRY
Uses Vitros 250 Chemistry Analyzer, STAT FAX 3300, CHEMWELL, BS-300 and
A15 BIOSYSTEM for various chemistry analysis, i.e., electrolytes, kidney and liver
function test.
Uses EasyLyte Calcium, EasyLyte Plus and DH-500 for Electrolyte determination.
Uses MINI VIDAS ( Immuno-chemistry analyzer) for thyroid function test, i.e., T3,
T4, TSH, FT3, FT4.
Uses Clover A1c Analyzer/DCA 2000+(BAYER) for Glycosylated Hemoglobin
Uses Triage Meter Pro (BIOSITE) for cardiac profile e.g. troponin I, BNP, CKMB,
Myoglobin.
CLINICAL MICROSCOPY/PARASITOLOGY
Performs pregnancy test/urine HCG test using card test pack.
Performs seminal fluid analysis.
Performs routine urine analysis

 Performs CSF analysis and other body fluids such as peritoneal, pericardial fluid,etc.
Identify different crystals present in the urine such as calcium oxalate, triple
phosphate, cholesterol crystals, bilirubin crystals, etc.
Identify OVA, parasites and amoeba present in the stool sample.
Performs occult blood using manual and card method.
PHLEBOTOMY AND SAMPLE PROCESSING

Draw blood from outpatient as well as designated ward.

Label and separate samples according to the laboratory test requested and distribute to
each section.
Responsible for sample collection and able to do phlebotomy well; heel/finger prick
and venipuncture, both syringe and Vacutainer method.
Performs bleeding of donors.
Performs arterial puncture for blood gas analysis.
