Abstract
Being able to influence young lives for the better is a feeling that cannot be beat. Becoming a
teacher and being able to do this every day is a great career. There are so many great feelings I
will get from teaching. Wanting to help kids and guide them to success is the goal for me as an
educator. Learning how to become a good quality teacher and improving myself to improve
others is the career I have chosen and will hopefully succeed in.

Autobiographical
My choice of becoming a teacher wasnt a hard decision for me to make. I will be happy
with my choice of becoming a teacher, because I will be able to work with young adults and
influence them to become successful. I will be able to influence students to make the right
choices and choose a good direction to follow, because I will be a good example for them.
Knowing that I will be able to influence other peoples lives in a good way by teaching is a huge
reward.
Educational Background
I have attended three schools throughout my life and the majority of my schooling was in
one small town. I attended West Wendover Elementary School and West Wendover JR. /Sr. High
school all in West Wendover, Nevada. I am currently attending the College of Southern Idaho,
where I am working towards my degree in secondary education with a concentration in
mathematics.
I have always been active in school activities and have always made it a goal for myself
to do my best in order to succeed. I have been taught by good and bad teachers and this has
affected the way I view teaching. I know I struggled when I had a teacher that lacked good
teacher qualities and I dont want other students to struggle because of a teacher. I have
discovered that I want to help students reach the best of their abilities to succeed.
Work History
My first job I got at the age of 15 and it was at a public swimming pool, where I did
cashiering for admissions and concessions. My second job was at a casino in their buffet as a
hostess/cashier. At first I hated working at the swimming pool so I moved to the casino and
learned how lucky I was to have had a job at the swimming pool. My job at the casino was
horrible and I learned quickly that the casino was somewhere I didnt want to work the rest of
my life. I eventually ended up working at both the casino and swimming pool so I could save
money to attend college.

Working at these places taught me many skills that will contribute to being a teacher.
These have taught me responsibility, team work, knowing how to deal with different cultures and
time management. I have learned how to work with others. Also how to respond to peoples
needs in a timely matter. Most importantly was how to get the job done right so that I could keep
my job. This will help me be an educator by working with other teachers and students and
responding to their needs. Working in these types of environments have taught me to work to the
best of my abilitys so I can eventually get to where I want and be happy with my job.
Service and/or Extracurricular Activities
Throughout school I was academically involved in National Honor Society and I got
many awards do to my good grades. In junior high and high school, I was involved in
cheerleading, dance and student council. My junior and senior year of high school I was
cheerleading captain which held me accountable for my team and taught me a lot responsibility.
Being in these extracurricular activities have always held me to high expectations.
Being involved in cheerleading and dance it has taught me how to be in front of a crowd
which will help me be in front of my classroom and other teachers. It has also along with student
council taught me tons of leadership skills. Which will help me be a great leader to my students.
Since I have always been held to high expectations academically this will help me hold high
expectations for my students and hopefully be able to help them achieve these expectations. I
have also been expected to be a good examples for others which I will hold for my students as
well.
Reasons for Choosing Education as a Career
In high school my freshman and sophomore year I had a great math teacher. However my
junior and senior math teacher lacked many qualitys in being a good teacher. My first two years
of high school I excelled in math. By the end of high school, I was completely lost in math. I was

in pre-calculus my senior year and when I came to college I tested into an intermediate algebra
class. I felt horrible! This proved how poorly my math skills became. I enjoyed math and to me it
was sad that I no longer knew math very well.
This experience lead me to wanting to become a math teacher, because I dont want this
to happen to other students. I also want to be a teacher because a lot of the teachers and staff of
my high school were really involved with my life. They were a major help for me, since I came
from a broken home. I want to be able to help kids that dont have the best home lives and set
great examples for them, so they will want to set great futures for themselves. I have thought
about other careers such as being a pilot, astronaut and architect. However, I have decided to
become a teacher do to the intrinsic rewards, because it is more important to me to help others.
Professional Goals
My short term goals are to become a high school math teacher and a cheer coach, so I can
affect students in positive ways through mathematics and cheerleading. I want to set good
examples for all students and build relationships with students to guide them and influence them
to be the best they can be. I will achieve these goals by getting my degree in secondary education
with a concentration in mathematics. I will also achieve these goals by becoming a teacher and
taking it day by day and staying positive so that I can set good examples for the students and be
able to make relationships with them. I will use these to achieve my long term goal of becoming
a good quality teacher.
My long term goal is to gain experience through teaching and coaching to better myself
as a teacher and a coach, so that I can better others. Also to become a good quality teacher. I will
achieve these goals by getting the experience and practice from my first couple of years teaching
and coaching. I will experiment with different teaching methods to make mathematics

understandable for all students and will help the students understand the subject matter as much
as possible. Overall I want to be able to teach my students the math they need according to the
standards so they are able to do well in school to make them want to become successful.
I have chosen to become a teacher because of the good and bad experiences I have had in
school. I am determined to give my students more good experiences then bad. I want to become
a teacher to help students achieve their goals in life and become successful no matter where they
come from. I will enjoy helping all different types of students and will use math to help them
succeed. Becoming a teacher and having the opportunities to influence young lives is the reason I
have chosen to teach.
