Abstract This paper presents the Simulation, Modeling

and Design of a closed-loop BUCK-BOOST converter, the
transfer function is calculated by Matlab using state space
averaging method. The whole circuit is simulated through
Pspice software and the output result is shown.

I. INTRODUCTION

The buck-boost converter schematic diagram is shown

above. When the switch is in ON position the inductor
stores the energy since the diode is connected in reverse
bias it isolates input from the output at the time capacitor
supplies the stored energy to the load. When the switch is
in OFF position the diode is in forward bias condition and
the stored energy of inductor charges the capacitor and
supplies energy to load through the diode. As the inductor
polarity is reversed when it transfers power, the output has
a reverse polarity compared to the input. Thus buck-boost
is a non-inverting topology. Turn ON and OFF equations
are given below

DC-to-DC converters are widely used in many

applications. A DC-to-DC converter is used to obtain a
regulated voltage from an unregulated source. These
converters have simple topology and have many
applications. Buck-boost converter is a combination of two
converters in cascade they are buck converter and boost
converter, thus it is possible to obtain buck operation as
well as boost operation depending upon the duty cycle, so it
is a step up and step down converter. It has many
applications in industries, household, in Micro grid, Battery
charging, and DC-to-DC conversion and many more.

II. ANALYSIS OF THE BUCK-BOOST CONVERTER

The analysis of closed-loop operation of buck-boost
converter is composed of some steps:
1. In continuous conduction mode (CCM) the buckboost converter is operated.
2. Using state space averaging method elements of
buck-boost converter are designed and the transfer
function is calculated from MATLAB software.
3. The buck-boost converter simulation results are
performed using PSPICE software.
4. Closed-loop operation is performed.

Turn OFF equation:

Now with the help of MATLAB software the transfer

function of buck-boost converter is calculated. Thus the
transfer function of a buck-boost converter calculated and
is given below

By steady- state analysis

The buck-boost converter is operated in continuous

conduction mode, for continuous conduction mode current
of inductor should not fall to zero.

VII. CONCLUSION

For close loop converter MATLAB software is used to

design controller through sisotool here type III controller is
used.

As the results obtained from the converter, the output

voltage was successfully maintained at 48Vto 50V. This
circuit operates in a high-frequency reducing the size of the
device and the circuit, reducing the cost.
