Monogrammed Hats for Everyone

December 12, 2015 | Whits

Everyone feels a little sense of pride for his or her letter. From toddlers just learning the alphabet to
fully literate adults, Johns and Josephines root for J, and Peters and Petunias think P is A-numberone. These Monogrammed Hats for Everyone allow us all to show some my-letter-love!

Using our original Super Soft Merino Hats for Everyone pattern as the base, these hats add a simple duplicate-stitch
monogram on the front and a cute pom pom on the top. Incredibly soft and cozy in Super Soft Merino, theyre also
seriously quick and easy to whip up!

From A to Z, from Alfie to Zelda, we all have a letter. Put it on a hat and wear it proud! -Whitney

Materials

Main Color: 1 skein of Purl Sohos Super Soft Merino, 100% merino wool, 87 yards per skein. We used the
colors Heirloom White and Oyster Gray. (Each hat requires about 36 [47, 58, 69, 80] yards of the Main Color.)
Contrast Color: 1 skein of Purl Sohos Super Soft Merino, 100% merino wool. We used the colors Red Zinnia,
Super Pink, Clementine Orange, and Paprika Red, plus a splash of Storm Gray for a pom pom. (For just a
monogram, you need only a small amount of the Contrast Color. For a pom pom, youll also need about 5-20
yards, depending on the size of pom pom.)
Youll also need
A US #11, 16-inch circular needle
A set of US #11 double pointed needles
A jumbo stitch marker (optional)
A tapestry needle
A pom pom maker

Cut the tail and thread it through the remaining stitches. Bring the tail to the inside of the hat.

Pom Pom
Use whatever size pom pom maker you like to make a pom pom. Thread each pom pom tail separately through the
top of the hat to the inside. Tie the tails into a knot, then thread the tails up through the pom pom itself and trim them
so theyre even with the pom pom.
Sew in all the ends.

Monogram

Positioning your letter a few rows above the top of the cuff, follow the letter chart of your choice to create a duplicatestitch monogram. Note that each square in the charts represents an A-shaped knit stitch, not a V. And if youd like
a few duplicate stitch pointers, please be sure to visit our Duplicate Stitch Tutorial!

All done!
