Aspirants need to prepare well with the help of these reference books to be successful in this
exam. A systematic study plan should be set up to prepare for this exam.

IIT DELHI STUDENTEdit#1: Recently I got to know, there is a coaching institute called Career Endeavour in Jia
Sarai, Delhi. Some noble soul made really beautiful notes which are available at a nearby
Chaudhary photostate shop. I've been told they are good enough to clear NET/JRF so I
assume they will be good enough for JAM too. You can buy that.

Edit#2: There are very nice books on each topic available by a single author Lim. But these
books are of Masters level, however they are really good compilation of Problems at a single
place. You may want to give it a try.

I'm unable to find the pdf for the time being. Please help me updating this answer if you are
able to find the link.
The level of these books are actually way above than what you might need in IIT JAM,
however one should be proficient enough in some core topics like QM, ED and Classical
Mechanics and these books help you achieve the feat. On a brighter side, you are actually
preparing for NET/JRF through these books.

You should refer some standard books like following. The emphasis here is to do a lot of
problems. And the books in bold one should prefer for problem solving.
Quantum Mechanics - By Zetili / Griffith / Schaums Series
Solid State Physics - By Kittel / M A Omar / S O Pillai
Statistical Physics - By Reif
Mathematical Physics - By Riley, Hobson and Bence /Arfken Weber
Classical Mechanics - By Goldstein / J. R. Taylor / David Morin (J C Upadhyaya can be
referred to )
Thermodynamics - By Zeemansky / F. W. Sears and G. L. Salinger

Optics - By Ghatak / Brijlal and Subhramanyam

Electrodynamics - By Griffith
Semiconductor and Electronics - By Boylested /Gaekwad
Nuclear Physics - By Irwin / Devnathan
Molecular and Atomic Physics - By Rajkumar / White
You shouldn't try to finish whole syllabus. I think 60% hardcore preparation will be enough

AIR-3
IIT JAM tests the standard undergraduate physics curriculum. I don't think there is any one
book that can help you master the curriculum.
If you intend to do well on the exam, you must first focus on absorbing the standard
curriculum thoroughly using any books you like on the topics which are in a typical physics
undergraduate course and also in the IIT JAM syllabus.

Once that is swept aside, you can begin the exclusive exam preparation. I used Arihant's IIT
JAM Physics solved papers book that is published every year. It has 10 previous year
papers and 5 model test papers based on the latest exam pattern. Solve all the questions to
get a hang of the kind of questions asked.
That should be enough for a great performance in the exam. No need for any rote
memorization or burning the midnight oil.
