Individual learning experience

Engineering problem solving and analysis is one of the most

important parts of the engineering, because it forms the basics of the
engineering. In the field of engineering, there are lot of problems and these
problems has to be solved by the engineer in order to get the work done as
desired by the company and this should also be done in the quick time. So,
my first goal was to understand the course description that what the course
is about because it is very important to get the basics of the course. This is
due to the reason that if do not know the basics of the course, you will not be
able to achieve your goals which you have set. All the other things in the
course which I have learned like designing project, project management,
report writing and research depends upon the basics which is required to do
this course.
All these things in a project are related
to the each other. Because when you do a project, there are several
problems come in it, it was my second goal to work hard and analyze and
solve all the problems individually that will occur during the projects. When I
started my first project, it was my goal to manage the project according to
the given time and leave a proper time spare for the problems that may
occur during the project and cause delay in the submission of the project.
Moreover, when you do a project, there can be many problems that can
occur in the design of the project. As it is an engineering field, so all these

problems are technical and a little mistake in them can change the results
dramatically, so it was also my goal to achieve to the detect the problem in
the design which is causing the result to deviate from the desired result and
then analyze the problem critically and find out which parameter is causing
error in the result and finally, correct it to get the desired results.
I think I am achieved my goals which
I set before the start of this subject. First of all, I learned the basics of the
subjects and make my concepts very clear about the subject on which we
are going to work. Then, secondly, I managed my projects and reports quite
well which I submitted in time. Moreover, I understand the subject and
analyze al the problems critically and find the result for all the problems with
the given time frame. So, overall, I managed to achieve my goals which I set
before the start of this course.

When I took the course of engineering problem solving and analysis II, it was
my perception that it is going to be very hard course and I am have to work
day and night just to pass this course. I was thinking that there will be a lot
burden on me for the assignment s and projects and I will not be able to get
the time for even food. I thought that there will be a lot of work and there are
many things in this course which I have to learn and learn it within time
because the time frame for this course was very small and all the work has
to done and learned within this prescribed time. I was thinking that I was will

be a very hard task for me to do and I will not be able to do it by thinking

about the several previous students who told me that they did not able to
pass although they worked hard. This is the main reason that I was little
afraid as well before getting this course, but this was not the case. I work
hard and learned a lot of things in this during this course but I did not find
many difficulties during this course and this might be due to the reason that I
worked hard and managed my time well according to the instructions. I did
all the assignment s and reports in time and solve all the problems regarding
them as well in time. The other thing is that this course format suits my
style of learning as I am hard worker and like to work hard and always tries
to find different and new ways to solve the different problems in my life.
One of the
main changes that I believe I need to improve is the decision making.
Throughout my course, I was in two minds that which method will be suitable
for the solving a particular type of problem that have occurred in the
designing, report writing and research. The search for the most efficient part
and taking the right decision at the right time is one of the most important
factor that I am looking to improve and work on it as there are lot of
problems in this world and every person has to live in it and handle these
problems, so it is very important that the decision making power of an
engineer should be strong enough so that he can manage the big problems
in time without hesitation.

The course engineering problem solving and

analysis II is very useful in understanding the team work because when a
problem is occurred in a project or in the report or design, a team can do it
better and solve the problem more easily than an individual. And in this
course, we have several projects in the team work which really helps us to
work in the team as the one of the main member of the team and complete
their assigned works in time so that all the work can be done according to
the plan and the desired results are found. From this course, I really came to
know the true meaning of team work as the projects were large and there
were lot of problems in them that a single cannot handle them easily. So, it is
very important and useful to have a team which can work with you and solve
the problems of by dividing the work. The work load is divided and the a hard
work becomes suddenly becomes so easy that everyone is ready to take it
and want to do its part. Moreover, when you work in the teams, there is a lot
of support for each other as well. For example, we have been doing the
project, one of our team member stuck in its work and he did not able to find
the solution but the other team member was there to support him and he
finally came out of the problem and reach to the solution. Team work is very
important and it has many advantages in the coming course as well as in our
future profession as a engineer. When some works in the team, a sense of
competition is developed between the colleagues and all of them wanted to
complete its work as soon as possible and submit it to the project supervisor
to take the attention of its boss who is always looking to find the best

employee of the company on which he can trust that he will be the one who
should get promotion.
Team work experience that
we have gained from this course is very important because it teaches us to
help other when they are in the problem. It is also important sue to the fact
that there are a lot courses ahead and there can be several in that as well, so
if we work as a team, it will help all of us. Moreover, every professional
engineer who is working in any company has to work with a lot of people and
in order to work well, an engineer should be a team man and works in such a
way so that all the people around him is happy with his work.
Leadership is art which has to be developed in an
engineer because engineer are the person who always works as the leader of
the team before their training and continue to work till the retirement as a
leader of some kind of team whether he is working with the team in the field
or doing managing work at the office. From this course, we have learned a lot
about the leadership, because we have solved and analyzed a lot of
problems while we were working in the team and in each team there was a
leader which was suggested by our instructor to lead the team. The leader of
the team should always an intelligent person and skillful person so that he
can guide the member of the team to work accordingly in different
situations. This is due to the fact that, in the field engineering there can be a
lot of problems and these problems can only be solved if there is someone

who can guide the members of the team properly as they are not experience
and did not have been through this process as well. A leader is always a role
model and everyone has to follow him in order to get the best desired
results.
One of the things that we need to improve
as a team worker is that sometimes, I depend too much on the other team
members and need their support all the time to complete my work. It is good
in a way that I keep myself in touch with my team members but it is very
bad because every member of the team has to do his work by himself and
should not depends on others for its work unless there is a serious problem
occurs which cannot be solved with the help of the other team members.
Moreover, I want to communicate with the leader of the team more than I did
previously and clarify my tasks so that there should be any ambiguity in my
mind when I begin to work on my project. It will help me in the future courses
as well because in every course there are a lot of problems and you need to
have a leader who can lead you to your desired results within the prescribed
time. Team work experience will also help me in my profession as well
because as an engineer, I have to do the job of leader and being under the
leader, I am able to understand the difficulties of the team members who are
working under your leadership. So, this will help in my profession as well.
This course is mostly related to problem solving related to the engineering as
clear from its name. An engineering team is always related to the problems
throughout its career and this course enhances ones ability to tackle with

the engineering problems making him more compatible for joining an

engineering team. Engineers are always related to add something in the
scientific studies of the world on which our daily routine goes around. Solving
the new problems is the habit of a successful engineer. The world of
engineers is different from the others. Engineers live in a different
surrounding. The word technology is related to the engineers such as
medicine to the doctor because an engineer is the one who give rise to a
new technique. This course has a lot of engineering theory and its
applications as well contrary to other general courses. Studying something
does not gives you more than fifty percent of the topic but if you study
properly and practice that knowledge in the field or anywhere it is applied,
your concept will be as clear as a glass. Basic statistical analysis concepts
are studied and applied in this subjects who helps me a lot in understanding
the way of solving problems statistically. Also the computer skills are
developed by the help of this course which helps to present or illustrate the
work done properly. Usually the students are taught some previously
prepared methods for solving the problems which is similar to a cramming
method but this course is related to solve the faced problems efficiently and
in more accurate way. Reason behind the method described earlier may be of
two types. Either teacher wants to cover the course content fast and does
not have time to convey the proper method or students are not interested in
covering the subject in a way it has to be covered and just want to get the
cook book way of getting the answer. In both cases, the excuses of both are

lame; teacher is always awarded proper study hours for delivering lectures
according to the content of the specific course and students must get the
proper efficient way of solving the problem encountered because just by
cramming the specific method for solving problem to the answer may help in
the written exam but that will result in the oral exam or practical exam
failure. Teachers think that our education system is restricted to teach the
students in a way to memorize the prepared solutions of the problems and
just write down the crammed values in the exam. This is the main problem
faced by our education system members now days. This should be solved by
changing their minds to teach in the way of delivering concepts rather than
just covering the syllabus content. This is the way we have learned very
much from our course and have knowledge of solving the engineering
problem in a way they should be solved. The effective approach that we have
learned from this subject defines the effective problem solution. This method
defines the quality way of problem solving by listing the main points that can
be observed and measured. This method creates the goals of teaching and
learning as well. If proper concepts were not given to the students, they
cannot solve the problems with a bit difference in concept. This course
helped the students like me to solve problems by understanding and then
solving. We were asked purposefully to review our performances so that we
can identify which are our strong and weak points. Strong points should be
maintained and more effort should e applied to recover our weaknesses in
the concepts of solving problems. Teacher gave us proper reviews different

to each student on his/her each different work making sure that we get all
the possible learning from the educator about the course. Course delivered
to us was clear in its objective. Engineers usually interpret problems using
engineering studies and scientific methods. If some problems of unfamiliar
concept are faced, they use scientific studies and laws like gas laws, motion
laws, etc to make observations, then make decisions and solve problems
according to the concept understood.
The operational definition is not accepted universally as all the
educators do not agree with someones concept. Everyone is striving for
complex and abstract problems solving. This subject is distinct among the
engineering subjects as this emphasizes the learning of objectives in a
different operational way. This subject explained very well the proper way of
solving problems step by step. Solving engineering problems statistically
includes the following steps: first of all we have to identify the need or
purpose of solving the problem. Then the problem is defined and some
suggestions are considered for solving it conceptually. Search the related
problems and constraints in solving that problem. Search for some alternate
solutions of related problems solved previously. At the end, you will be able
to take some decisions on the behalf of previous steps. Failure is the mother
of invention. Always failure in some field or type of problem causes people to
make a proper solution. For example, food preserving was a problem faced
all over the world so this makes engineers worry about solving this for better
preservance. Thus tin can packing is introduced as a solution of preserving

food. Firstly this was solved by introducing glass bottles for preserving food.
Bottles were first filled with disinfecting water for killing bacteria and then
used for the storage. Technology then improved and now we have tin pack,
tetra pack technology in use of food preservation.
