THE RECORDS - - Iowa is 2-0 following home wins over Miami,
Ohio (45-21) and Iowa State (42-3). Iowa was 12-2 a year ago,
pos ng a perfect regular season record while winning the Big Ten
West Division tle.
North Dakota State is 2-0 following over me wins over Charleston Southern (24-17) and Eastern Washington (50-44). The Bison

THE SERIES - - Iowa holds a 2-0 series advantage, but the teams
have not met since 1947. Iowa won 39-0 in 1946 and 59-0 in 1947.
Both games were played in Iowa City and both were the opening
game of the season.
COACHING RECORDS - - Kirk Ferentz is in his 21st year as a college head coach and his 18th year as Iowas head coach. His career
record is 141-108 and he is 129-87 at Iowa. He ranks eighth in
the Big Ten Conference in overall coaching victories and is ed for
seventh in league wins.
Chris Klieman is in his third year as the head coach at North
Dakota State, previously serving as NDSUs defensive backs coach
(2011) and defensive coordinator (2012-13). He holds a record of
30-3 at NDSU and a career mark of 33-10, including one season as
the head coach at Loras College. Klieman was an assistant coach
at Northern Iowa, his alma mater, for nine seasons before joining
the NDSU sta. He is a Waterloo na ve.

The Hawkeyes have won nine straight home games, ed for the third-longest ac ve
streak in the country (FSU, 22; Clemson, 17; Iowa, 9, Michigan State, 9). Iowa has also
won 14 straight regular season games.
The Hawkeyes are averaging 38.6 points per game during their nine-game home winning streak. Iowa has scored 40-plus points in four straight home games for the first

Kirk Ferentz (pronounced FAIR-rintz,
rhymes with parents) is in his 18th season
as head football coach at Iowa and the dean
of Big Ten Conference football coaches. His
contract runs through the 2025 season.
Named Big Ten Coach of the Year for the
fourth me in his career (2002, 2004,
2009, 2015). Only Michigans Bo Schembechler (6) has more conference coach
of the year awards.
Guided Iowa to Big Ten tles in 2002 and
2004, and the Big Ten West Division tle
in 2015.
Named Woody Hayes, Eddie Robinson, and Bobby Dodd Coach of
the Year. Was a finalist for the Maxwell Football Club, Paul Bear
Bryant Coach of the Year award.
Ferentz is eighth with 129 overall wins as a member of the Big Ten
Conference. He has 76 Big Ten wins, tying for seventh all- me.
Named the 2002 Associated Press and Walter Camp Na onal
Coach of the Year and AFCA Regional Coach of the Year.
Iowa has made two BCS bowl appearances, including a 24-14 win
in the 2010 FedEx Orange Bowl, and one CFP Bowl (2016).

The only Division I head coach to coach three sons at the same

ALL IN THE FAMILY


Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz has two of his three sons involved in the
Iowa program again in 2016. Brian, a former Hawkeye le erman and
captain (2003-05), is in his fi h season as Iowas oensive line coach
and second year as running-game coordinator. Steven is an oensive
lineman who is in his fi h season as a redshirt senior. James Ferentz
was a three-year starter on the Hawkeye oensive line and a team
captain before gradua ng in 2013.
Kirk and Steven are one of seven father-son head coach-player
duos in FBS. The others include Mike and Jay Macintyre (Colorado),
Mark and Gunner Hudspeth (UL-Lafaye e), Rick and Brent Stocks ll
(Middle Tennessee), Bobby and Derek Wilder (Old Dominion), Butch
and Alex Jones (Tennessee), and Kyle and Alex Whi ngham (Utah).
FATHERS FOOTSTEPS
Iowa has nine players on its 2016 roster whose father played for
the Hawkeyes. WR Brandon Bishop (Willie in 1986), QB Drew Cook
(Marv in 1985-88), OL Cole Croston (Dave in 1984-86), OL Mitch
Keppy (Myron in 1986-87), LS Tyler Kluver (Todd in 1986-87), TE
George Ki le (Bruce in 1977-80), DE Anthony Nelson (Je in 199092), TE Peter Pekar (Jim in 1980-81), and QB Ryan Schmidt (Rick
1984-85).
BACK ON CAMPUS
Head Coach Kirk Ferentz has four former players on the 2016 sta.
His son, Brian Ferentz, was a three-year le erman from 2003-05 and
is in his fi h year as Iowas oensive line coach. He is also Iowas run
game coordinator.
LeVar Woods, a three-year le erman from 1998-2000, is in his
ninth year on the Iowa sta. He is in his second season coaching ght
ends a er coaching linebackers for three seasons. He also assists
with special teams. Woods rejoined the program as an administra ve
assistant in 2008.
Kelvin Bell joined the Iowa program as a defensive lineman in
2000, but had his career cut short due to injury. He returned to the
program as a graduate assistant and recently served as director
of on-campus recrui ng (2012-13) before being named recrui ng
coordinator and defensive assistant coach in February, 2016.
Broderick Binns, a four-year le erman from 2008-11, was named
director of player development in April, 2016. Binns previously served
as a graduate assistant in 2014 and 2015, working with the Hawkeye
special teams.
HAWKEYE HISTORY
Iowa has played 1,209 games since beginning football in 1889.
Iowas overall record is 627-543-39 (.533). That includes a 395-213-16
(.641) record in home games, a 232-330-23 (.413) record in games

HOME ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM
Iowa is averaging 38.6 points per game during its current nine-game winning streak
at Kinnick Stadium. The Hawkeyes have scored 40 points or more in four straight home
games for the first me in more than 100 years. Iowa scored 40-plus points in six straight
home games during the 1913-14 seasons.
THE STREAKS
9: The Hawkeyes have won nine straight home games for the first me since 2002-05,
when they won a school-record 22 consecu ve home games.
14: The Hawkeyes have won 14 straight regular season games.
8: The Hawkeyes have a Big Ten best eight game regular season conference winning
streak. Iowa was 8-0 in the Big Ten last year, including a 4-0 mark at home and a 4-0 mark
on the road. The eight-game winning streak is Iowas longest since winning eight in a row
between the 2008 and 2009 seasons. Iowa has not won nine consecu ve Big Ten regular
season games since stringing together 10 straight from 2001-02. The school record for
consecu ve Big Ten regular season wins is 13, set between the 1920 and 1923 seasons.
6: The Hawkeyes have won six consecu ve road games (the final road game at Illinois in
2014, and all five road games in 2015). Its their longest road winning streak since winning

BEATHARD EARNS COLLEGE SPORTS MADNESS WEEKLY AWARD
QB C.J. Beathard was named College Sports Madness Big Ten Oensive Player of the
Week following his performance against Iowa State in Week 2. Beathard accounted for
four first half touchdowns -- three passing and one rushing -- to lead Iowa to a 42-3 win in
the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series. He completed 19-of-28 passes for 235 yards and matched
his career best with three touchdown passes.
4 TO BE ADDED TO KINNICK MEDIA WALL OF FAME
Four members of the media, who covered University of Iowa athle cs over the past
40 years, will be inducted into the Kinnick Stadium Media Wall of Fame on Sept. 16-17,
in conjunc on with Iowas home football contest against North Dakota State.
The inductees are Rick Brown, a member of the Des Moines Register sports sta from
1978-2015; Blean Calkins, who covered Iowa games for KWPC radio in Musca ne (196292); Hal Lagerstrom, sportswriter and sports editor at the Dubuque Telegraph Herald
(1959-1991); and Ed Podolak, current radio analyst for Iowa football games for Learfield
Sports. Calkins and Lagerstrom are being honored posthumously.
The inaugural class of 20 members was recognized in 2006, the first year the Paul
Brechler Press Box was in use following the Kinnick Stadium renova on. Four addi onal
members were added in 2011. The Wall of Fame, located in the media sec on of the press
box, recognizes individuals who have covered Hawkeye football with integrity, accuracy
and fairness over a long period of me.
BEATHARDS FOURTH-QUARTER GAME-WINNING DRIVES
QB C.J. Beathard has led Iowa to three victories when the Hawkeyes have trailed or been ed entering
the fourth quarter. On fourth-quarter game-winning drives, Beathard is a combined 9-of-11 passing for
73 yards and one touchdown. He has four carries for 29 yards, including three first downs.

Manny Rugamba, QB Nathan Stanley, LB Kris an Welch, and WR Devonte Young.
Stanley has played in each of the first two games of the season. He is the first true
freshman to play quarterback since Drew Tate in 2003. Tate appeared in six games (0
starts) and was 6-of-11 for 55 yards and one touchdown (no intercep ons).
NELSON NAMED BIG TEN FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
DE Anthony Nelson was named Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week for his
performance in Iowas 45-21 win over Miami, Ohio in Week 1.
Nelson forced two Miami fumbles in his first career game, with both leading to Iowa
touchdowns. He recorded 2.5 sacks for minus 16 yards, and had yet another sack nullified
by a Miami delay of game penalty. Nelson was credited with two solo tackles, four assists
and one pass breakup.
Nelsons first caused turnover came in the first quarter as Miami had reached the
Hawkeye eight-yard line. Ma Nelson recovered the fumble and the Hawkeye oense
traveled 81 yards in two plays for a touchdown and a 21-0 advantage.
Nelsons second forced fumble came late in the game and led to Iowas final touchdown
in the closing minutes.
The Big Ten honor is the first for Nelson and the first for the Hawkeyes this year. Iowa
players earned weekly honors from the Big Ten on six occasions in 2015, including DE
Parker Hesse, who earned Freshman of The Week honors in the regular season finale at
Nebraska, a 28-20 Hawkeye win.
HOME GROWN HAWKEYES
Iowas roster of 117 players includes 53 players from Iowa. The roster includes 18
players from Illinois; seven from Michigan, six from Maryland, five from Missouri and Texas,
four from Wisconsin, three from Ohio and South Dakota, two from Florida, Minnesota,
Nebraska, and New Jersey, and one from Canada, Indiana, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and
Tennessee.
BAND OF BROTHERS
The Hawkeyes have five sets of brothers on the 2016 roster. In the season opener
against Miami (Ohio), C James Daniels and RB LeShun Daniels became the first Hawkeye
brothers to start in the same game since SS Kent Ellis and CB Kevin Ellis in 1980.
No other school in the country has more sets of brothers than Iowa. OL Ryan Ward and
younger brother OLB Kevin return for their fourth and final season together. Twins OL
Landan and Levi Paulsen are back a er redshir ng their freshman year in 2015. They are
the sixth set of twins to play football at the University of Iowa. LB Ben Niemann welcomes
younger brother LB Nick Niemann to the team this year, as does SS Miles Taylor, whose
younger brother LB Kyle is in his first year on campus.

IOWA/NORTH DAKOTA STATE NOTES
Iowa has zero players on its roster from North Dakota. The Bison have three Iowa na ves
on their roster, including sophomore RB Lance Dunn (Waterloo), freshman corner back
Ross Godfrey (Sioux City), and redshirt freshman linebacker Jake Brinkman (North Liberty).
North Dakota State has won the FCS na onal championship five consecu ve years and is
ranked No. 1 in FCS. Iowa is 0-10-1 when playing top-ranked FBS schools. Saturday is its
first game against the No. 1 team from FCS.
Iowa is 13-0 all- me against FCS opponents.
University of Iowa Director of Athle cs Gary Barta was an op on quarterback for North
Dakota State football teams that won the Division II NCAA Na onal Championship in 1983,
1985, and 1986. Barta earned a bachelor of science degree in mass communica on and
broadcast journalism from NDSU in 1987.
UI Deputy Director of Athle cs Gene Taylor was NDSU athle c director from July 2001
un l August 2014. Under his tenure, the Bison won FCS na onal tles in 2011, 2012, and
2013. Taylor hired NDSU head football coach Chris Klieman in December 2013.
THE SERIES
Saturdays game marks the third all- me mee ng between the two schools, and first
since 1947. Iowa opened the 1946 and 1947 seasons hos ng North Dakota State. Both
games were played at Kinnick Stadium.

Seventeen high schools have contributed more than one player to the current Iowa
football roster. Dowling Catholic HS in West Des Moines, Iowa; East English Village HS in

IOWA BOWL NOTES


Iowa made its 29th Bowl game appearance (14-14-1) at the 102nd Rose Bowl Game
in Pasadena, California. The Hawkeyes have competed in the Rose (six mes), Outback
(four), Alamo (four), Holiday (three), Orange (two), Peach (two), Sun (two), Insight (two),
Gator/TaxSlayer (two), and the Capital One, and Freedom bowls once.
Iowa has played 13 bowl games under Kirk Ferentz (6-7), including nine January bowl
games (4-5).
Iowa has been bowl eligible 14 of the last 15 seasons under head coach Kirk Ferentz.
Iowas 13 bowl appearances since 2001 e as the 11th best total in the na on.
Iowa ranks third in Big Ten bowl appearances. Ohio State has received a conference-best
46 bowl bids, followed by Michigan (44), Iowa (29), and Wisconsin (27).
GLANCE AT THE SCHEDULE
The Hawkeyes open 2016 with three straight home games against Miami, Ohio (W,
45-21), Iowa State (W, 42-3), and North Dakota State (Sept. 17).
For the first me in program history, Iowa will play a nine-game conference schedule,
beginning Sept. 24 at Rutgers. Iowa plays five Big Ten road games and hosts four conference
schools, including Northwestern (Homecoming, Oct. 1), Wisconsin (Oct. 22), Michigan
(Nov. 12) and Nebraska (Nov. 25).
The Hawkeyes do not face Big Ten opponents Indiana, Maryland, Michigan State, or
Ohio State, during the regular season.
Seven of Iowas 12 opponents played in the postseason. Six Big Ten opponents

The four-level Paul J. Brechler Press Box was installed 10 years ago. The facility extends the full
length of the west side of the stadium and includes
47 private viewing suites and over 1,000 club seats.
60 YEARS
Head Coach Forest Evashevski led the 1956 squad
to a 9-1 overall record and an outright Big Ten tle.
The Hawkeyes defeated Oregon State, 35-19, in its
first ever Rose Bowl appearance.

Iowa has four trophy games on its schedule in 2016. The Hawkeyes defended the CyHawk trophy with a 42-3 win against Iowa State, and will defend three more rivalry trophies
at Minnesota (Floyd of Rosedale), and against Wisconsin (Heartland) and Nebraska
(Heroes).
The Hawkeyes play FCS na onal champion North Dakota State on Sept. 17. Iowa is
13-0 all- me against FCS opponents. This is the ninth year in a row Iowa has faced an FCS
school.
For the second straight year, and second me in program history, Iowa will play more
than one night game at Kinnick Stadium. Iowa defeated Iowa State, 42-3, on Sept. 10 in
a game that kicked o at 6:42 p.m. The Hawkeyes host Michigan Nov. 12 at 7 p.m., also
play under the lights at Penn State on Nov. 5 (6:30 p.m.).
Iowas Homecoming game is Oct. 1 against Northwestern. Iowa is 57-42-5 all- me in
Homecoming contests, and has won six of its last seven Homecoming games.
HAWKEYES AT NIGHT
Iowa has hosted 13 night games in Kinnick Stadiums history, holding a 9-4 record in
those contests. For the second me ever, and second consecu ve season, Iowa will host
two night games in 2016, including Iowa State (W, 42-3) and Michigan on Nov. 12 at 7
p.m.
NATIONS TOP DEFENSIVE BACK RETURNS FOR SENIOR SEASON
DB Desmond King, the Jim Thorpe Award winner and unanimous consensus AllAmerican, announced on Jan. 4 he would return to Iowa for his senior season. King is the
only Thorpe winner ever to play a college season a er winning the award.
King led the Big Ten and ranked second in the country with eight intercep ons, tying a
school record. He was named the Tatum-Woodson Big Ten Conference Defensive Back of
the Year and a finalist for Walter Camp Player of the Year.
The last me Iowa took the field with a na onal award winner was 2003, when senior
PK Nate Kaeding was the reigning Lou Groza Award winner, presented to the na ons top
kicker.

IOWA LEADERSHIP GROUP


The University of Iowa football program has 16 players in its
2016 Leadership Group, including nine seniors and seven juniors.
The purpose of the group is to assist in formula ng policies, and
being involved in team decision-making ma ers regarding the
upcoming season. Players are selected by a team vote.
The seniors are QB C.J. Beathard, OL Cole Croston, RB LeShun
Daniels, Jr., DL Jaleel Johnson, DB Desmond King, TE George Ki le,
DB Greg Mabin, WR Riley McCarron, and WR Ma VandeBerg.
The junior class is represented by DL Nathan Bazata, OL Ike
Boe ger, LB Bo Bower, LB Josey Jewell, OL Boone Myers, LB Ben
Niemann, and OL Sean Welsh.
DEFENDING THE CASTLE
The Hawkeyes will defend five trophies in 2016 including
the Big Ten West Division championship trophy and four rivalry
trophies -- Cy-Hawk Trophy (Iowa State), Floyd of Rosedale
(Minnesota), Heartland Trophy (Wisconsin), and Heroes
(Nebraska).. It is the first me in program history (the Heroes
Trophy was introduced in 2011) that Iowa has owned all four
trophies.
The Hawkeyes are 1-0 in trophy defenses, topping Iowa State,
42-3, in Week 2.
WELL GO FIRST
In 18 seasons as Iowas head coach, Kirk Ferentz and the
Hawkeyes received the opening kicko in 173-of-216 games
(105-68). Iowa has started the game on defense in 43-of-216
games under Ferentz (24-19).
FIND THE NFL-ER
Aus n Blythe, a seventh-round selec on of the Indianapolis
Colts in 2016, became the 15th oensive linemen selected in the
NFL dra since 1999, Kirk Ferentzs first year as UI head coach.
In each of Ferentzs 17 complete seasons, the Hawkeyes had a
future NFL player start on the oensive line. This weeks depth
chart includes oensive linemen Cole Croston, Boone Myers,
Sean Welsh, James Daniels, and Ike Boe ger.
From 2007-14, an eventual NFL first-round dra pick started
on the Iowa oensive line. Brandon Scher, selected by the
Washington Redskins fi h overall in 2015, was Iowas le tackle
from 2012-14. Riley Rei, selected 23rd overall by the Detroit
Lions in 2012, started at le tackle from 2010-11. Bryan Bulaga,
selected 23rd overall by the Green Bay Packers in 2010, started
at le guard in 2007 before moving to le tackle in 2008-09.
From 2005-06, Bal more Ravens All-Pro Marshal Yanda shared
me at tackle and guard for the Hawkeyes. Mike Elgin, a seventh
round selec on of New England, was Iowas star ng center in
2004. Pete McMahon, dra ed by Oakland in 2005, was Iowas
right guard in 2003. Oaklands first round pick in 2004, Robert
Gallery, was Iowas le tackle from 2001-03. Eric Steinbach
(Cincinna ) started at guard for Iowa from 2000-02, and Bruce
Nelson (Carolina) was a four-year starter from 1999-02. Steinbach
and Nelson were second round dra picks in 2003.

FERENTZ CAPTURES NATIONAL AWARDS
Head coach Kirk Ferentz returns to the Iowa sideline for an 18th season as the reigning
na onal coach of the year. Ferentz was named Woody Hayes Coach of the Year by the
Touchdown Club of Columbus, the Eddie Robinson Na onal Coach of the Year by the
FWAA, and winner of the 2015 Dodd Trophy, presented annually by the Chick-fil-A Peach
Bowl. He was named American Football Coaches Associa on Region 3 Coach of the Year,
and was a finalist for the Paul Bear Bryant Coach of the Year and George Munger Coach
of the Year awards.
Ferentz was also named Dave McClain and Hayes-Schembechler Big Ten Conference
Coach of the Year for the fourth me in his career (2002, 2004, 2009, 2015), being
recognized by both league coaches and media. Only Michigans Bo Schembechler (6)
has more conference coach of the year awards. Iowas Hayden Fry and Penn States Joe
Paterno both won the award three mes.
Ferentz led Iowa to a school record 12 wins in 2015. The Hawkeyes won the Big Ten
West Division tle (8-0) and advanced to the Big Ten tle game for the first me in the
games five-year history. The Hawkeyes reclaimed all four of their rivalry trophies in 2015,
and reached as high as third in the Associated Press poll (Nov. 22).
FERENTZ TOPS IN LONGEVITY
Kirk Ferentz is in his 18th season as Iowas head football coach. He is ed with
Oklahomas Bob Stoops as the longest ac ve FBS head coaches. Ferentz was named Iowa
head coach on Dec. 2, 1998, one day a er Stoops was named head coach at Oklahoma.
Stoops was a Hawkeye le erman from 1979-82.
IOWA AT THE HEAD OF CLASS IN COACHING LANDSCAPE
The University of Iowa has produced four ac ve FBS head coaches, ed with Alabama for
most in the country. Bret Bielema (Arkansas), Bob Diaco (UCONN), Bob Stoops (Oklahoma),
and Mark Stoops (Kentucky) all earned undergraduate degrees from the University of Iowa.
Bielema, Diaco, Bob Stoops, and Mark Stoops played for former UI head coach Hayden
Fry. All four head coaches served as assistants under Fry. Bielema was an assistant coach
on Kirk Ferentzs sta from 1999-2001.
ALL ABOARD TO KINNICK STADIUM!
The Hawkeye Express, the passenger train that transports fans from Coralville to Kinnick
Stadium, is once again available for fans traveling to Kinnick Stadium on Iowa Football game
days. The Hawkeye Express is in its 13th season. Adults can ride the train for $12, round
trip, while children (12-and-under) ride for free. Tickets can be purchased in advance

Free parking is located in lots near the Comfort Suites and Coral Ridge Mall. Fans can
begin boarding the train three hours prior to 11 a.m. kickos, and four hours prior to the
start of a ernoon and night games. Return trips begin at the start of the fourth period
and run 90 minutes a er the game.
The Hawkeye Express is owned by the Iowa Northern Railway Company and operates on
the Iowa Interstate Railroad.

GAME RECAP
No. 15/17 Iowa rushed for ve touchdowns en route to
a 45-21 victory over Miami University at Kinnick Stadium.
The 45 points are the most points by a Hawkeye team in a
season opener since pos"ng 46 against Maine in 2008.
The Hawkeyes sprinted out to a 21-0 advantage in the
rst quarter a#er touchdown runs of 1, 11, and 43 yards by
Hawkeye tailbacks.
Akrum Wadley rushed for a game-best 121 yards and two
touchdowns, LeShun Daniels carried the ball 10 "mes for 83
yards and two scores, while Derrick Mitchell had 12 yards
and a touchdown on two a$empts.
Iowas oense ran only 50 plays, but totaled 404 yards,
averaging 8.1 yards per play. Direc"ng the Hawkeye oense
was quarterback C.J. Beathard, who completed 13-of-20
passes for 192 yards and one touchdown. The senior signal
caller completed his rst eight passes of the contest.
Ma$ VandeBerg caught a team-best four passes for 99
yards, while Jerminic Smith had three catches for 51 yards,
including his rst career touchdown recep"on.
The Hawkeye defense forced and recovered three Miami
fumbles -- two of which came in the rst period -- while
the Iowa oense converted the RedHawk miscues into 21
points.
Linebackers Ben Niemann and Bo Bower led the Hawkeyes
in tackles, registering nine and eight, respec"vely. Middle
linebacker Josey Jewell missed a majority of the game a#er
being disqualied for targe"ng in the rst quarter.
Last years Jim Thorpe Award winner, Desmond King, had
ve tackles and amassed 85 yards in returns on special
teams; 70 yards on two kicko returns and 15 yards on one
punt return.
True freshman Keith Duncan was perfect in his collegiate
debut at placekicker for the Hawkeyes, conver"ng all six
PATs and making his only eld goal a$empt (22 yards).
Daniels and his brother James (center) became the rst
Hawkeye brothers to start in the same game since Kent (SS)
and Kevin (DB) Ellis in 1980.
The win was Iowas eighth straight home win and 13th
consecu"ve regular season triumph, da"ng back to 2015.

GAME RECAP
Iowa scored 14 points in each of the rst three quarters
to post a convincing 42-3 victory over Iowa State at Kinnick
Stadium and retain possession of the Cy-Hawk Trophy.
The 39-point victory and Iowas 42 points are the largest
margin of victory and the Hawkeyes most points scored in
the series since a 63-20 Iowa win in 1997.
Five dierent players scored Iowas six touchdowns -- Akrum
Wadley (2), George Ki#le, LeShun Daniels, C.J. Beathard, and
Ma# VandeBerg.
Iowa jumped out to a 14-0 advantage a$er Beathard
touchdown passes of nine and 26 yards to Ki#le and Wadley,
respec%vely.
The Hawkeyes added a pair of second-quarter touchdowns
on a VandeBerg 12-yard scoring recep%on and a Beathard
1-yard plunge.
Iowas third quarter touchdowns were scored by Wadley
(3-yard run) and Daniels (43-yard run). It marked the second
consecu%ve game that Daniels ran for a 43-yard touchdown.
Beathard nished the contest comple%ng 19-of-28 passes
for 235 yards and four touchdowns (3 passing, 1 rushing). The
signal caller became the 10th Iowa quarterback to surpass
4,000 career passing yards in the second half.
Daniels rushed for a game-best 112 yards and one
touchdown on 15 a#empts. It marked the third %me in his
career the senior rushed for over 100 yards.
VandeBerg had a game and career-high 129 yards receiving
with one touchdown on seven catches. The senior receiver
has topped 100 yards receiving twice in his career with both
contests coming against Iowa State.
Defensively, linebacker Josey Jewell led the Hawkeyes
with nine tackles. Defensive tackle Jaleel Johnson had seven
tackles, including two sacks. Linebacker Ben Niemann had
three tackles and intercepted the rst pass of his career in
the third quarter, which resulted in an Iowa touchdown two
plays later.
The Hawkeye defense limited Iowa State to 16 rst downs,
291 yards of total oense, and 3-of-15 on third downs.
