Hello everyone,

I was looking for some examples for automatic car warehouses and I found this one!
Autostadt is an amusement park of Volkswagen located in Wolfsburg (next to their factory). It
features different spaces as museums and pavilions. You can check the web page here:
The video below show us the operation of the two car towers, which run like vertical automatic
warehouses. The system consists on a cylindrical glass building of 20 levels, and a central beam
with a rotating arm, in order to keep the cars before the clients come and pick them up. It is also
possible to visit the inside of these towers, and experience a real simulation of this storage system.
I think this is a nice approach to logistics and technology for everyone, and a good solution to a
space and organization problem. This kind of car towers help Volkswagen store lots of cars without
needing extra employees to move and park them, or extra security staff. It also reduces the space
required, time and human errors. Here you can see the video of the operation of the towers:

I found your post very interesting! However, I realized squared watermelons had some time since
they were invented, and we still don't have them

Hello everyone!
I found a very interesting report about the 2015 global logistics called From First Mile To Last
Mile: Global Industrial And Logistics Trends, by Colliers International. The key in this research is
to point out the main factors that will affect logistics and warehousing for the next years, trying to
estimate how the actual situation will change, providing some real examples, and giving some
advice for the future.
The report remarks the existence of an increasing trend of e-commerce, due to a change of
consumers' behavior: new generations will be more used to buy through the Internet than we are. In
fact, not only using computers but smart phones will be in our daily lives.
It is also important the creation of new concentrated markets. China and Asia are continuously
evolving and more urbanized areas have appeared recently. Thus, this new consumers will have a
great impact on the e-commerce.
The report also includes a research of the most used routes by firms to ship their products, and the
ports that have experienced the greatest change in activity. It is also discussed the called AsiaPac
trend in the future, specially the China and India cases.
In order to respond to these imminent changes in population and behavior, the first mile and last
mile topics are reviewed. The report examines some different logistic solutions to these issues.
Finally, the report provides some examples to illustrate all these findings. They go through the well
known Amazon case, two online groceries one in United States and the other one in UK and
LPP a huge fashion retail group in Europe .
Even if this report is quite long, I think it would be very interesting to take a look at it; lots of
graphics to depict the situation are provided, so it is really nice to read. Here you have the link:

This is very interesting! I think this new development highlight the need for not only employees
with an economic and business background, but also with a great technology and IT knowledge, in
order to solve the new challenges that may arise in logistics areas.
Also, along the same lines that Omar, the first thing that came into my mind (of course after
logistics issues), is the safety of these cars. Even more, I became concerned about all the products
that may be done by these 3D printers. In the imminent future, not only cars but also food and guns,
among others products, will be printed this way.
So, for the next years it will be necessary and required to inquire into this new developments in
technology and logistics, not only from an economic and business concern, but also from a law and
regulation fields.
If you are interessed in this issue, you can check the web page http://lawitm.com/ , in which some
relevant facts of the Law concerning 3D printers are discussed.

I've found your post very inspiring! I think we will see this in the near future, and I'll be very happy
if this is finally implemented, as Enric said.
Anyway, I was thinking deeply about this new way of check-outs functioning, and a question come
into my mind: Why haven't they already implemented this on supermarkets? I've made a little of
research, and I've found some big companies, as Walmart, that have already used it in inventory
purposes on employees. But, the problem with doing so on the consumers is about privacy. With
RFID (Radio-Frequency IDentification) it is possible to track the position of the product, and so
your position. This opens new discussions about the safety of the individual freedom and the
concern about private information, as your location is. So, would they finally implement this on
consumers? Would you buy in a supermarket which uses this method? Would you be concerned
about your privacy? I guess there are still so many questions on the table.

These are amazing news for Madrid! I'm glad to see foreing companies choosing Spain to develop
and invest on their logistics areas.
However, not only companies from outside this country are willing to increase their logistics
centers. As we know, the fashion and textile sector has experienced (and will experience) a high
increase in demand, partially because of the increase in e-commerce. Two spanish companies, Liwe
Espaola (which manages the Inside firm) and Thinktextil, are going to enlarge their logistics
centers. Both companies have anounced this few days ago, so the news are quite recent (from
october and november 2015).
Here I give you the links to both news:
