ATTACK & LARGE DIAMETER HOSE

I.

SCOPE: This specification defines a premium quality, heavy duty, high pressure fire hose in
sizes 1" thru 5" I.D. designed for fire ground attack and supply, relay applications.

II. HOSE CONSTRUCTION: Extruded Interlocking Matrix Thru-the-weave

A. Cover and Liner 100% Synthetic Nitrile Rubber
B. Reinforcement 100% Synthetic Fiber, Circular Woven, Twill Weave
III. PRESSURE TEST REQUIREMENTS: All hose shall be tested in accordance with NFPA 1961
Standard for Fire Hose, Latest Edition. Each section shall withstand a hydrostatic test (proof)
pressure as shown below for a minimum of 15 seconds without leakage or breaking a thread in
the hose. Each hose shall be marked in accordance with NFPA 1961 Standard for Fire Hose.

V. COUPLINGS: Lightweight, extruded aluminum alloy, hardcoat anodized, rocker lug, threaded
expansion ring coupling, and storz with expansion ring binding. All couplings on 4 and 5 shall
be storz connections with 3 bolt segmented CASTM bindings and with compression type contraxial
sleeve. Couplings must be field repairable. Couplings shall meet NFPA 1963 for non-threaded couplings.

VI. ABRASION RESISTANCE: Hose must be warranted against abrasion during normal fire ground use.
VII. OZONE RESISTANCE: Hose shall show no visible signs of cracking of the lining and cover when
tested in accordance with ASTM D1149-64 (R1970), ASTM D518 Proceedure B, 100 pphm/122F/70 hours.
VIII. HEAT RESISTANCE: Hose cover shall not support combustion. Hose shall withstand 1200F
of a period of two minutes without damage to fabric.
IX. COLD RESISTANCE: Hose shall have the capability of use down to -36F. Hose shall have no
apparent damage to cover, jacket or lining when subjected to the following cold bending test: A 50
foot length of dry hose is to be firmly coiled and placed in a cold box at -36F for a duration of
24 hours. Immediately after removal of the hose from the cold box, an attempt is to be made by one
operator to uncoil and lay out the hose. Following the cold bending test, the hose shall not leak nor
show breakage of any thread in the jacket when subjected to the hydrostatic proof test requirements
listed previously.
X. ACCELERATED AGING TEST: The tensile strength and ultimate elongation of the lining and
cover compound after aging shall not be less than 75% of specimens not subjected to the Oven
Aging Test, in accordance with ASTM 573, at 70C for 96 hours.

XI.

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE: Chemical resistance to be stated in written warranty. Chemical resistance

chart to be available upon request.

XII.

PACKABILITY: Space required for the hose, coupled in 100 lengths, shall not exceed the following
cubic feet per length of hose.

XIII.

REPAIRABILITY: Hose shall be repairable by cold patch process. No vulcanizing shall be required.

XV.

COLOR: Hose shall be available in high visibility yellow and red. Consult factory for other options.
Longer lengths available.

XVI.

WARRANTY: Manufacturer warrants hose to be free from defects in material and workmanship for
a period of one (1) year. This warranty shall provide for the repair or replacement of hose and
couplings proven to have failed due to faulty material and workmanship. Written warrenty to be supplied.
