27. (D) The severe tropical typhoon Nida, also
called Tropical Storm Carina in Philippines,
has recently hit the China's Guangdong
Province. The gale-force wind with up to 150
km/hr speed has caused heavy rain followed
the tropical typhoon. This is the strongest
typhoon to hit the Pearl River Delta since
1983. It was caused by a tropical depression
that had developed about 1,020 km to the
east-southeast of Manila, Philippines. The
cyclonic system was located within a
favourable environment for development of
cyclone with low vertical wind shear and very
warm sea surface temperatures.
28. (A) Petermann Glacier is a large glacier
located in North-West Greenland to the east
of Nares Strait. It connects the Greenland
ice sheet to the Arctic Ocean near 81N. As
per the recently released NASA satellite
imagery, a massive iceberg has broken off of
a glacier in Greenland, in what could be the
latest indication of global warming. The
NASA images show the massive chunk of ice
breaking off of the Petermann Glacier on the
north-western coast of Greenland. The
glacier produced a similar ice island, twice
as large in 2010. NASA says that the crack
in the glacier had been visible since 2001,
and that its polar-orbiting Aqua satellite had
observed the break on July 16th-17th. On July
15th/16th 2012, a 130 km2 (50 square-miles)
chunk calved from the northern tip of the
glacier.
29. (A) Prof. Ahmed Zewail (70), Egyptian Chemist
and Nobel Laureate, has recently passed
away in United States. Zewail won the Nobel
Chemistry Prize in 1999 for his pioneering
work in femtochemistry, the study of
chemical reactions in ultra-short time scales.
He was professor at the California Institute
of Technology and a Science Advisor to
President Barack Obama and was the first
Arab scientist to win the Nobel Prize.
30. (A) Pachpadra Lake is a salt lake near town
of Pachpadra in Barmer District in Indian
state of Rajasthan. Sodium chloride level of
the lake is marked at 98% and it produces
high quality salt.
31. (A) The royal physician, Jivaka, was sent by
Bimbisara to treat Avanti King Pradyota, who
was ailing with Jaundice.
32. (B) Bolometer, instrument for measuring
radiation by means of the rise in temperature
of a blackened metal strip in one of the arms
of a resistance bridge. In the first bolometer,

which kingdom and phylum, class, order,
family, genus and then species.
(B) Manoj Sinha, Minister of State
(Independent Charge) of the Ministry of
Communications, has recently launched
Twitter Sewa service to address the common
man's complaints regarding telecom and
postal services. The complaints will be lodge
through Twitter handle "@manojsinhabjp".
People can use 4 commands to escalate their
complaints viz.#DoTSewa, #BSNLSewa,
#MTNLSewa, #PostalSewa. The platform will
also address the grievances that are raised
against private players.

Archaea have characteristics of both
prokaryotic and eukaryotic characters.
Hence it seems to be the oldest eukaryotes
or forerunners of eukaryotes.
(D) Sand in water has non-uniform
composition that's why it is a heterogeneous
mixture.
(A) After the invention of IC chips the
development of computers plunged into next
phase. Small Scale Integration and Medium
Scale Integration (SSI and MSI) were used
in third generation of computers and Large
Scale Integration and Very Large Scale
Integration (LSI and VLSI) are being used in
fourth generation of computers. People are
now expecting ULSI (Ultra Large Scale
Integration) Circuits to be used for fifth
generation computers.
(D) Kidney maintain blood pressure by
releasing renin enzyme.
Kidney excrete excess water, urea, Salt
from body by filtering them from blood and
this waste excrete in form of urinal.
Excess salt is also removed by filtration.
(B) Blue sapphire and ruby are obtained from
