The purpose of the Method Statement is to describe the methods used for installation
of road kerb. This Method Statement shall be read in conjunction with Method
Statements for Road Works.
The method of statement generally describes the guidelines on the process and the
stage that was involved in right from the order receives stage and till the completion
of construction works.
This method statement will serve as a manual for the construction management
team. The existing company management team members and any additional
workforce who will be joining the team later shall understand the operational methods
of the company on the construction and quality control procedures.

METHOD OF STATEMENT

4.1

Installation of Precast Concrete Kerb & Cast In situ Scupper Pipe

4.1.1

General
o This work shall consist of the supply and installation of recast concrete kerbs &
cast insitu scupper drain constructed at the locations and in accordance with
the lines , levels , grades , dimensions and types as shown on the Drawings ,
all in accordance with this specification.

4.1.2

Setting-Out
o Get the site supervisor to set the excavation point. Put up the wooden peg for
setting out the excavation line position and centering. Setting-out and marking
invert level points at least 25m interval.

4.1.3

Construction Method
o Excavation shall be carried out by a backhoe to 230mm average deep as
shown on the drawings commencing from platform level to form sub-grade to
receive paving and removing excavated materials from site.
o Trim, grade rolled and compacted road sub-base by roller to required cambers
and gradients as shown on the drawings.
o Precast Concrete Kerbs shall be cast using steel moulds and shall be of the
types as shown on the Drawings.
o Each kerb shall be set so that its front top arris conforms to the line and grade
required. All spaces under the kerb shall be filled with bedding material which
shall be thoroughly tamped.
o Kerbs shall be laid with joints as narrow as possible and filled with mortar
containing 1 part Portland cement to 2 parts sand. Where a Portland cement
concrete pavement is to be constructed contiguous to a kerb, expansion joints
shall be constructed in the kerb directly in line with pavement expansion joints.

o The expansion joint in the kerb shall be 20mm in width and shall be filled with
an expansion joint filler of the same nominal thickness as the pavement joint.
Any voids between filler and the concrete kerb shall be filled with mortar.
