Have you wanted to be a blessing

to someone and give out these cute
smiley face cards, but not sure how
to get started on your own? On Sept.
17 we will be deploying teams of
10 around the city to do some good
deeds like passing out water bottles,
carrying groceries and whatever else
we can think of to bless our neighbors.
Sign up for a time slot between 10am
and 4pm online at www.moumc.org/
forms under Be a Blessing 2016.

Whats Happening in Childrens Ministries?

With the change in worship times on Sept. 18, we will be experiencing some
change in Childrens Ministries as well. At the 9:15 worship hour we will offer Kids
Worship!, an interactive, multi-age Bible story time along with music. We will
move from the Chapel and music room to Whittler Hall where we will have more
ability to move our bodies and learn in ways that work for children. Children will
still start in the Sanctuary and will be dismissed after Childrens Time to head
downstairs. At the 10:30 worship hour we will continue to offer Whittler Treehouse
and Studio K5 Sunday School where children learn in a large group/small group
format. If you have any questions about Childrens Ministries, or are interested in
working with Childrens Ministries, please contact Nancy Cooper (nancy@moumc.
org or 443-3111) or fill out the tear-off sheet in the bulletin.

This is a city-wide initiative that is coordinated by the

Voluntary Action Center and is one of the outreach
missions of the Sophia Circle of the United Methodist
Women. The primary focus of this mission is to collect
Cold-Weather clothing for those in need for the upcoming
winter months. We have started advertising this mission
with posters around the church and in the Messenger/
Bulletin/Facebook and Youth Instagram page. We will be
collecting different items over the next five weeks. These
items are: Scarves/Hats/Gloves (Sept. 5-11 with a goal of
100), Pairs of Socks (Sept. 12-18 with a goal of 100 pairs)
and Blankets (Sept. 19-28 with a goal of 50).

September 15, 2016 - Vol. 29, No. 35

SATURDAY: Matthew 5:1-16 Light

The purpose of light is to illuminate the darkness. If light is covered, its
purpose is negated.
PRAYER: Help us to shine with your love and light into the darkness of the
world, oh God, becoming a pathway to your kingdom of love and light.

FRIDAY: Matthew 5:1-16 Salt

Salt is a seasoning and a preservative. It enhances and maintains.
REFLECTION: This passage suggests that we are the salt of the earth. How
can your life be an enhancement to the lives of others? How can your life
maintain the Kingdom of God on earth?

THURSDAY: Matthew 5:1-16 Keeping the faith

Living a life that is right in the eyes of God is not always easy. Sometimes to do
so opens us up to ridicule.
REFLECTION: Has there been a time when you felt a need to stand up for
your beliefs and your faith? Did you find the strength and the words that were
needed?

WEDNESDAY: Matthew 5:1-16 Outward focus

As our needs are filled, we are to reach out to the world around us to bring
love, mercy, and peace into the lives of others.
PRAYER: Dear God, help us to find ways to respond to your love for us by
showing loving kindness to others.

TUESDAY: Matthew 5:1-16 True importance

Our greatest need is to find practices and behaviors that lead to right living.
God promises to fill us with the power of righteousness that is needed.
CONSIDER: Consider changes that may be needed in your life to enable you to
live more connected to God.

MONDAY: Matthew 5:1-16 Needs met

We all have spiritual, emotional, and physical needs in our lives. Christ says
that those who know God are blessed because God meets us where we are in
every circumstance.
REFLECTION: Think of a time of need in your life. Did you feel Gods presence?
How did God meet that need?

You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a
lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the
house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good
works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored?
It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.

Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil
against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven,
for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples
came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:
