PLAGIARISM

How have you

encountered
plagiarism in the
classroom?

Most commonly committed

plagiarism.
1. Passing off someone elses
ideas and/or words as their
own.
2. Improper citation
3. The claim of unintentional
plagiarism.

Accidental = Intentional
accidentally, e.g. you paraphrase, summarize, add
your own ideas to someone elses without citing your
source,
or intentionally, e.g. you hire someone to write your
paper, or you buy, steal, or borrow a paper and pass
it off as yours.

Here in Ateneo
Whether you committed it accidentally or
intentionally, consequences are still the same
you may get a failing mark on your paper, or worse,
you may get suspended or expelled.

know, although they
might need to remind
themselves by looking

reference book.

Widely accessible

Found in general
resource dictionary or

Libraries are as old as civilization.

Libraries are as old as

civilization-- the object of
pride, envy and sometimes
senseless destruction. From
the clay tablets of Babylon to
the computers of a modern
library stretch more than five
thousand years of man's and
woman's insatiable desire to
establish written immortality
and to insure the continuity
of culture and civilization, to
share their memory, their
wisdom, their strivings, their
fantasies, their longings and
their experiences with
mankind and future
generations.

library of Ashurbanipal at
Nineveh, to the computers of
a modern library -- stretch
more than five thousand
years of man's insatiable
desire to establish written
immortality, insure the
continuity of culture and
civilization, to share his
wisdom, his dreams, his
memory, and his story with
the rest of mankind, and with

4: Source plagiarism
Many authors cite other authors in order to
strengthen their arguments.
You use a material quoted by another author, but you
cite only the original source even if you did not read
the primary source and it were the latter source you

Before the Internet became

so popular, people used to
tape music from the radio.
According to Randy Jackson
(2006) no one was bothered
by this because it was
impossible to catch people.
Although home taping was
technically illegal, it was only
record companies who were
worried about profits who
could really call it stealing.

Jackson (2006) states

that no one cares about
downloading music
since they are
impossible to get caught.

PLAGIARISM

Bullying is defined as
repeated systematic efforts
to inflict harm on a particular
child through physical attack,
verbal attack or social attack.
Implicit in this definition is
the idea of an unbalance in
power: victims of bullying are
in some way weaker than
their harassers and continue
to be singled out for attack,
in part because they have
difficulty defending
themselves.

<PAR 1> According to Berger

(2009), bullying is inflicted through
repeated systematic efforts to
inflict harm on a particular child.
This often happens in pockets of
environments where there is no
adult supervision. I.e. playground,
cafeteria, etc.
<PAR 2> Because of the absence
of an adult, some kids take on the
role of authority. Victims of bullying
are weaker than their harassers
and are singled out for attack,
because they have difficulty
defending themselves.
