program designed to offer protection against computer viruses is
called a vaccine program.
Possible causes of virus infection are:
Downloading a virus-laden program through communication.
Using a floppy disk or other storage medium infected by a
virus.
Note also that once any personal computer is infected by a virus, it
may spread to other computers via communication or storage
medium.
Never use a program or storage medium that is suspected of
containing a virus.
If there is a possibility of virus infection, check for a virus using a
vaccine program. Note, however, that some kinds of vaccine
programs cannot eradicate particular viruses. So, be sure to
make a backup of hard disk files beforehand.
The user is requested to prepare a vaccine program and carry out
virus removal on users own responsibility.

RG Process
The RG process is a combination of the regeneration and
equilibration processes, which are included in the analysis
methods time program table.
By executing the RG process before analysis, we can get high
quality data even from the first round of measurement.
The RG process can be automatically generated based on a time
program table currently under editing (refer to 1.5.11).
The automatically generated RG process is changeable
depending on its purpose and usage.
The created RG process can be added as an analysis method to
the whole program sequence.

Ingredient Weight Calculation Function

EZChrom Elite for HITACHI Amino Acid Analyzer has a function of
calculating ingredient weight, which quantifies each ingredient on
the basis of its concentration. The ingredient weight can be
worked out by the below formula.
Ingredient Weight (ng) = MOLConcentration (nmol) Molecular Weight

In Molecular Weight table, the ingredient names and molecular

weights should be set in advance. Ingredients can be added to
and modified in the table.
The Molecular Weight table (M_Weight.csv) file is a read-only type
for the purpose of data protection. Addition or change should
thus be made after releasing the RO check box of the Properties
attribute.
The ingredient name entered in analysis method should be
identical to that in Molecular Weight table. Otherwise, its
molecular weight cannot be obtained. (It is case sensitive.)

parameters. Waveform processing is impossible unless
these parameters are set.

2 - 40

2.9.1

Peak Width
Used to integrate data points before application of the integration
algorithm or to calculate a smoothing value. Integration yields
good results when the number of data points for one peak is 20.
In case of oversampling (sampling frequency too high), this
parameter is used to obtain an average value of data so that the
integration algorithm recognizes 20 data points in the peak.
For graphical setting of the [Width] value, make setting for the
narrowest peak in the chromatogram. Note, however, that a new
[Width] event should be input each time the peak width is doubled.
Threshold (Detection sensitivity)
First-order derivative. Used to discriminate the peak start and
end points from the baseline noise and drift in the integration
algorithm. For graphical setting of the [Threshold] value, select a
part of the baseline. The recommended value for [Threshold] is
determined according to the maximum value of 1st-order derivative
obtained from the selected part of baseline.

The following figure exemplifies the influence of the [Width] and

[Threshold] values of peak on the baseline.

Precautions on Measurements
(1)

Sequence Table Setting

For ensuring safety in stopping the instrument, the washing
process is automatically carried out on completion of the
sequence run, and thereafter, the shutdown sequence is
performed.
Therefore, even if Shutdown is specified at the Run Type
item of the Sequence Table, the shutdown function intrinsic
to the EZChrom Elite becomes ineffective.

(2)

Extension of Data Acquisition Time

To extend a data acquisition time during measurement, click
Control/Extend Run on the menu bar to open the Extend
Run dialog box. In this dialog box, enter a desired data
acquisition time.
Although the data acquisition time can thus be extended
according to the input in the Extend Run dialog box, the
Cycle Time and Run Time indications on the Instrument
Status screen remain unchanged. On the chromatogram
display, check the actual cycle time and run time concerned.
Note that if the data acquisition time is extended beyond the
cycle time, an adverse effect is given to data accuracy.
In common practice, therefore, specify a data acquisition time
so that it will not exceed the cycle time.

Addition of Run Queue

Upon completion of the sequence run, the washing process is
automatically called into execution and then the shutdown
sequence is performed. Therefore, even if a run queue is
added to the sequence, the next queue execution is not
performed. (Since the pump1, pump2, and reactor heater
are turned off due to execution of the washing process, an
error is issued at the start of the next sequence.)
To add a sequence or modify any existing sequence, edit the
sequence in execution without adding a run queue.
Note that carrying out a single run (Stand-by Method)
between sequences makes the next sequence measurement.
(The pump 1, pump 2, and reactor heater can be turned on
only in a case where the Stand-by Method is carried out by
means of a single run.)
