10th OpenFOAM Workshop

Know Before You Go
Welcome to Ann Arbor and to the University of Michigan for the 10th OpenFOAM Workshop.
This document contains useful information relevant to the workshop and to other events taking
place around town.
Location
All presentations, training sessions, special interest groups, and check-in for the workshop will
be held at the Michigan League building located at 911 N University Ave, Ann Arbor, MI
48109.

Parking and Transportation


The Michigan League does not have a parking lot but several parking options are available
nearby. Many streets in the area have metered parking spaces and there are public parking

structures within a walking distance (see map above). For a full map of parking lots and

Taxi and transportation services like Uber and Lyft are available in Ann Arbor. The blue
University of Michigan buses are free for anyone to use. For routes and bus arrival times visit:
http://mbus.doublemap.com/map. Pay-to-ride buses with a wider coverage are offered through
TheRide system: http://www.theride.org
Check-In
Check-in for the workshop will take place on Sunday June 28th in the Michigan League lobby
on the first floor between 6:00PM and 8:00PM. Light refreshments and appetizers will be
provided. Check-in will also be held on Monday June 29th in the second floor ballroom between
8:00AM and 12:00PM.
Internet Access / WiFi
Free WiFi access is available in most campus locations including the Michigan League through
the MGuest network. To access MGuest:

Connect to the MGuest WiFi network


Open a web browser; the MGuest welcome page will appear
Enter your email address and agree to terms to gain network access

Note: Internet Explorer 9 is not supported on the MGuest WiFi Network. If you use IE9, your
device will connect, but it will be redirected back to the login page and not your home page.
eduroam is available for visitors from other eduroam-enabled institutions. More information can

Training Sessions
The twelve training sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, June 30th. There is no additional fee
to participate. Each room holds 40 people, and will be filled first-come-first-served. There is no
sign-up required. We recommend that you use either the persistent of live Linux image that
will be provided on a USB thumb drive. The image is designed to work with VirtualBox version
4.0 or later. The USB drive with training materials will be provided when you check in.
Breakfast, Coffee Breaks, Lunch, and Banquet Dinner
A light continental breakfast, coffee breaks, and lunch are provided Monday through Thursday
in the second floor ballroom at the Michigan League. Breakfast is served starting at 8:00AM.
Please check the program for exact coffee break and lunch times for each day of the
workshop.

The banquet dinner will be held at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan on
Wednesday July 1st. Bus transportation to and from the banquet is provided. Please arrive at
the bus pick-up location in front of the Rackham Graduate School building (Washington
St. side of the building, see the map above) by 5:00PM to load the buses. The bus pick-up
location is a short walk from the Michigan League. We will depart at 5:15PM. The bus trip
takes approximately one hour each way and the banquet dinner will begin shortly after our
arrival at approximately 6:00PM.
Things to do in Ann Arbor
Ann Arbor is a vibrant place full of great restaurants, coffee shops, breweries, museums,
theaters, and more all within a short walk from the Michigan League. For recommendations,
please feel free to ask any of the volunteers at the workshop.
The annual Ann Arbor Summer Festival will be underway during the workshop. The festival is
full of live music, outdoor movie screenings, beer tastings, and more. Many of the events are
