Call Muting & Call Drop

In general, the call muting issues were happening due to Radio Link Failures (RLF)
After the Radio Link Failure, UE takes few seconds to re-select the new cell and latch on to it.
During this process, there is no voice reception/transmission that leads to user experiencing call muting
The call muting can be classified based on the duration as outlined below

The Block Error Rate (BLER) is a measure of how successful a data transmission is over the air at the Physical/MAC layer level.
Residual BLER of a packet is calculated after the maximum allowable retransmission. The value of Residual BLER should not be more than 0.5%.
Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) represents the quality of the uplink channel reported by the UE.
Modulation & Coding scheme (MCS) defines different combinations which provides bits per symbol.

850 band shows poor Residual BLER & MCS values as compared to 2300 & 1800 bands.
UE in challenging RF environment is served by 850 band instead of 2300 & 1800 band due to multiband strategy.
Higher BLER in 850 band indicates that the 850 coverage may not be sufficient to provide deep indoor coverage in some areas.
Study is being carried out at Kolkata to understand the cause of poor residual BLER through RF Shield Box.

BLER & MCS :

2300, 1800 & 850 band
UL MCS

850 band has lower DL BLER, while is has higher UL BLER.

850 MCS is poorer as compared to 2300 & 1800 bands.
This could be because 850 provides less advantage in uplink as compared to downlink over 2300/1800 band.
This indicates that 850 uplink coverage need to be strengthened in some of the deep indoor areas.

RRC Connections and Drop Rate

850 band RRC drop rate similar to 2300/1800 band despite of having significantly lower RRC Connections in 850 band.
This could be due to 850 band serving UE in difficult RF environment as per multiband strategy.
This indicates that 850 coverage need to be strengthened in some of the deep indoor areas.

Resolution on RLF :
Improvement of SIB Read Failures
The below table indicates the improvement in SIB failure rate post increase in number of RBs allocated in SIB .
A test was carried out in Navi Mumbai cluster 108,109 to know the effect of change in RB allocation on call muting.
It is seen that after increasing the number of RB allocated as per current package the sib failure rate has been improved.
Improvement observed in Mumbai cluster 108 & 109 from 91% to 99.53 % .
