SECTION
JULY 9, 2016
DATE
OBJECTIVES:
To investigate the operation and construction of the soldering gun/ iron.
To learn the techniques in soldering and develop such techniques into skills.
EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS:
Soldering gun/ iron
Screwdriver
Long nose pliers
Soldering lead
Soldering posts and copper wires
Side cutter and wire scraper
PROCEDURE:
1. The soldering gun/ iron was shown by the instructor and was observed.
2. The different components of the soldering gun/ iron were determined and
explained by the instructor.
3. Different soldering techniques were known and other accessory tools for
soldering were discussed by the instructor.
4. The students were asked to make a good soldering connection by themselves
and asked the instructor if there were any problems.
b. Using lose nose pliers connect the part to the place where you want it connected.
See to it that it is mechanically strong and good to look at.
c. Apply a solder to the connection. Heat first the terminals before applying the
lead. Do not remove the soldering gun/iron from the connection to be soldered if
the soldering lead is still on the initial stage of melting. A good soldered
connection is shiny and silvery in appearance.
d. Remove the tip of the soldering gun/iron from the connection as soon as the lead
has fully melted with shiny appearance. Do not apply excess quantity of soldering
lead.

EVALUATION QUESTIONS:
1. How will you know that a soldered connection is strong electrically and
mechanically?
A soldered connection is strong electrically and mechanically. If the parts
are not able to move in relation to each other.
2. What is the physical appearance of a good soldered connection?
It must be clean and free from dirt and grease. Dirt is the enemy of a good
quality soldered connection.
3. Draw a soldering gun, label the different parts, and explain briefly each part.

CONCLUSION:
Soldering uses soldering iron and soldering lead to be able to do
the soldering process. This process is also used in troubleshooting
electronic devices. Soldering is a technique that uses a fusible metal alloy
to join two separate metallic items together. Melt the fusible alloy by a
heating element until it reaches near liquid form and then apply to the
connecting point between the two metallic items to join. Solder forms a
secure connection point used to join pipes and electrical connections, to
repair jewelry, and to join or repair all types of metal.
