Q-1. How do we locate a place on a map?
Ans. As longitudes and latitudes run from east to west and north to south, they form a network called a
grid. This Grid helps us to locate accurate places in maps and globes.
Q-2. Write features of Meridian.
Ans. The features of Meridian are

All the meridian are equal in length.

The distance between two meridians is maximum at the equator.

The distance between two meridians decreases towards the pole.

Ans. Study of direction is essential to study maps and to locate a place. There are four main directions
North, South, East, West. A part of the main direction there are four sub directions.

Ans. Apart form signs and symbols different colours are also important in the map because they are
used to represent different landforms and water bodies in a map.
Q-13 Sanctuaries for which animals are there in Gujarat? Where are these sanctuaries located?
Ans There are sanctuaries in Gujarat for animals like bear, wild ass, blackbuck, chinkara lion etc. The
location of these sanctuaries are in Banaskantha, Kachchh, Bhavanagar and Junagadh.
Q-14 Why do birds from foreign countries migrate to our state?
A- Birds migrating from foreign countries are cold region birds. In winter our state Gujarat
becomes cold. The temperature and atmosphere here suits the migratory birds. A part from this, birds
also get their yearly trip.

1. Judicial system

The judicial system of India ensures justice for all the citizens.

The people who violate laws of the land are tried in the court.

The supreme court is the highest court of justice in India.

It is located in New Delhi.

It is headed by the chief justice who is appointed by the president.


2. Rajya Sabha

The rajya sabha is also known as the upper house of the Parliament.

Its members are not directly elected by the people of India.

From 250 members, president chooses 12 members, who are excelled in the fields of literature,
science, sports , arts and social media.

The remaining 238 are elected by the members of legislative assemblies.

The term of these members is six years.


3. Lok Sabha
The Lok sabha is also known as the lower house of the Parliament.
At present it has 545 members
Only Indian citizens of 25 years and above can be members of lok sabha and they are directly elected by
the members of India
These members elect a speaker who conduct the proceeding of the house.
The term of these members is five years.
4. Indias role in United Nations.
The UN was established after the second world war.
India is one of the founding members of UN.
It has lent full support to the ideals of UN.
It actively participates in all activities of the UN.
Many Indian experts work for UN agencies.
5. Objectives of UN
To maintain international peace and security.
To settle disputes between member states peacefully.
To maintain friendly relation among nations.
To ensure equal right for all nations.
To promote respect for human rights and freedom to all.
To solve economic, cultural, political and human problems.
6. Features of a desert.
The deserts experience extreme climate.
The deserts are extremely dry due to little rainfall in these areas.
Sand storms are common in the desert and due to that sand dunes are found.
Deserts are of two types- cold and hot.
Oasis are small water pools found in deserts and date palm ground around it.

7. Latitudes

Latitudes are imaginary lines that run from east to west.

There lines are parallel to each other, they are also called parallel of latitudes.

The Latitude that divides the earth in to two equal halves is called the equator.

The 1942 the congress leaders started the Quit India Movement.
