would be shared privately..." 23 6 Before implementing scoring rubrics, many teachers and
assessors would grade students individually and the notes would be shared privately. This gave
the teacher-student relationship something closer than what was in the classrooms. The notes
the teachers gave to each student`s works were given out on each assignment. As a student,
this was helpful on a per assignment basis. The notes and critiques were specific and gave a
better assessment of what needed to be done for improvement. Overall, before the advent of
scoring rubrics, students still had the opportunity for in depth evaluation but on a more personal
basis. source: Field study 5 episode 4 on scoring rubrics? Was this answer helpful? Yes | No

Bloom identified domains of educational activities with categories of

educational activities within those domains:

Domain

Categories of Activities
Knowledge, Comprehension,
Application, Analysis,

Cognitive

Synthesis, Evaluation
Receiving, Responding,
Valuation, Organisation,

Affective

Internalisation
Perception, Mindsets, Guided
Response, Mechanism,
Complex Overt Response,

Psychomotor

Adaptation, Origination

In Blooms taxonomy the Cognitive domain describes a framework of

information processing through certain types of activities. The Affective
domain describes the interactions of the individual learner with those cognitive
activities.
It would be fair to say that Blooms Cognitive domain and its categories of
activities was the primary framework for designing formative and summative
assessments for over 50 years. Testing in education has usually involved
beginning with knowledge activities (testing recall) and then progressing
through comprehension, application, and so on with each category perceived as
requiring more complex cognitive activity.

Marzano and Kendall

Marzano and Kendall [3] (Marzano) have given Blooms taxonomy a bit of
working over. They reframe the three Domains and instead of categorizing
learning activities they describe six levels of processing knowledge.
Domains

Levels of Processing
Self System
Meta-cognitive System
Knowledge Utilisation

Information
Mental Procedures
Psychomotor Procedures

(Cognitive)
Analysis (Cognitive)
Comprehension (Cognitive)
Retrieval (Cognitive)
