Introduction

1.1

IP-20N Introduction

Release Notes

IP-20N is designed for ultra-high flexibility and modularity. It is optimized for

nodal deployment, with a small footprint, high density, and a high degree of
scalability and availability.
IP-20N is the newest and most advanced product in the FibeAir family of highcapacity wireless backhaul products. Together, the FibeAir family of products
provides a wide variety of backhaul solutions that can be used separately or
combined to form integrated backhaul networks or network segments. IP-20N
is fully interoperable with FibeAir IP-10G and IP-10E units. Full
interoperability with IP-10C and IP-20C is also planned for future IP-20N
releases.
This enables operators to utilize a combination of FibeAir IDUs and radio units
(RFUs) to build networks in which the most appropriate FibeAir product can
be utilized for each node in the network to provide the feature support,
capacity support, frequency range, density, and a footprint that is optimized to
meet the needs of that particular node. The FibeAir series pay-as-you-grow
licensing models further enable operators to build for the future by adding
capacity and functionality over time to meet the needs of network growth
without the need to add additional hardware. Additionally, IP-20Ns modular
structure provides for the gradual expansion of network nodes through the
addition of line and radio cards, utilizing a single 1RU or 2RU chassis.

Release Notes

7.5 Version Introduction and Highlights

IP-20N utilizes Ceragons innovative technology to provide a high-capacity
low-latency solution. The total switching capacity of IP-20N is 10 Gbps or 6.25
Mpps, whichever capacity limit is reached first.
IP-20N also utilizes established Ceragon technology to provide low latency
representing up to a 50% latency reduction for Ethernet services compared to
the industry benchmark for wireless backhaul.
Release 7.5 introduces a new Ethernet LIC: LIC-X-E4-Opt. This LIC has 3
optical GbE interfaces and a single combo interface that can be used as an
additional optical GbE interface or electrical GbE interface.

8.1

IP-20N Radio Options

An IP-20N system consists of an IP-20N indoor unit (IDU) and any of the
following radio frequency units (RFUs):
RFU-C A state-of-the-art RFU designed for a broad range of interfaces
and capacities from 10 Mbps up to 500 Mbps. RFU-C operates in a wide
range of spectrum bands, from 6 to 42 GHz.

1500P Like RFU-C, 1500P is designed for a broad range of interfaces and
capacities from 10 Mbps up to 500 Mbps. 1500P operates in spectrum
bands of 11 to 38 GHz, and can be installed in both indoor and outdoor
configurations.

IP-20N Hardware Options

IP-20N chassis are available in 1RU and 2RU versions, each of which supports
a common set of cards for traffic, radio interface, and management:
Traffic/Control Card (TCC)
Can be used in 1RU and 2RU chassis.
Contains 2 x 1 GbE Ethernet combo interfaces (electrical or optical)
Supports total chassis switching capacity of up to 10 Gbps or 6.25
Mpps - million packets per second.
T3/T4" clock input/output and PPS/ToD - 1xRJ45
Radio Modem Cards (RMC)
RMC-A Based on the modem used in Ceragons FibeAir series IDUs,
including IP-10G, IP-10E, IP-10Q, and IP-10C. RMC-A supports up to
256 QAM, with ACM.
RMC-B RMC-B supports up to 1024 QAM with ACM and XPIC.
Line Cards (LIC)
Ethernet LIC-X-E4-Elec (4x GE), with 1 GbE combo interface and 3
GbE electrical (RJ-45) interfaces
Ethernet LIC-X-E4-Opt (4x GE), with 1 GbE combo interface and 3
GbE optical (SFP) interfaces
TDM LIC-T16 (16x E1)
TDM - LIC-T155 (1x ch-STM-1)
The 1RU chassis supports up to 5 carriers, with redundancy options for radio
and traffic, and a dual-feed power option for power redundancy.
The 2RU chassis supports up to 10 carriers, with redundancy options for
management, radio, traffic, and power. The 2RU chassis is fully redundant - no
single point of failure.

Protection Mode is enabled.
TCC redundancy is planned
for future release.

It is recommended to place the same type of cards in adjacent pairs, as

follows:
Slots 3 and 4
Slots 5 and 6
Slots 7 and 8 (2RU only)
Slots 9 and 10 (2RU only)
The reason for this is that for certain features, connectivity is supported in the
backplane between these slot pairs. Even if these features are not immediately
implemented, it is recommended to adhere to these slot recommendations in
order to facilitate future upgrades.
2+0 configurations are not available for cards in slots 2 and 12.

8.7

IP-20N Interoperability with other Ceragon Products

IP-20N version 7.5 is interoperable with IP-10G and IP-10E in 1+0 and 1+1
configurations. This enables operators to introduce IP-20N into existing
FibeAir networks gradually as a high-density ultra-modular solution for
appropriate nodes.
For example, IP-20N can be used at nodal or chain sites, working with IP-10G
and/or IP-10E units at a cost-optimized 1+0 tail sites.
