I am in the process of completing my final semester at Virginia Tech, where I will earn a
Bachelors Degree in Public Relations in December 2016. My strong technological, analytical,
and strategic communication skills as well as my competitive drive to be the best make me a
great candidate for the position.
My academic background has also given me an excellent understanding of ethical public
relations principles. As a member of the Public Relations Society of America, my knowledge of
the PRSA Code of Ethics helps me to better understand public relations case studies in my
curriculum to abide by and uphold the core values of the ethical practice of public relations in
my work experience.
A key portion of my skill set has been derived from athletics. I served as captain of the Virginia
Tech HighTechs Dance Team for two consecutive years. I generated school spirit within the
student body, augmented support for other teams, and was responsible for managing my own
teams image. In 2014, I rebooted the Hightechs Dance Teams Facebook and Twitter accounts as
well as created the teams very first Instagram account. I successfully improved communication
efforts within the Hokie community and increased interactivity with recruits, fans, and
supporters. The sport of competitive collegiate dance has also taught me hard work,
commitment, and time management. These skills have helped build an accomplished dance
career including leading my team to a third place finish at the NDA National Collegiate Dance
Team Championship in 2014 (the highest ranking in program history), being MVP two
consecutive years, and becoming the first student assistant dance coach in program history in
2015. I was also respected enough by the Athletics department to exclusively be featured on
graphics located inside Lane Stadium and the Indoor Football Practice Facility, where I will be a
part of Virginia Tech forever.
I have two years of pre-graduate work experience in public relations and marketing practices
under my belt. As the current marketing/public relations coordinator for the Virginia Tech
Wrestling Team, I focus on recruitment, community relations, and annual giving of wrestling
donors. A fraction of my duties includes planning and launching promotional events, designing
new graphics with Adobe Creative Cloud software for team logo, merchandise, and donor gifts,
organizing databases, merchandise orders, and inventory with desktop applications, utilize social
media expertise to effectively manage the teams Facebook and Instagram accounts, fostering a
mutually-beneficial relationship with all stakeholders, and continuing to maintain the teams
respected image as the fourth-ranked NCAA collegiate wrestling team in the nation.
I also work for the Virginia Tech Student Calling Center as a trained telefund caller, utilizing my
interpersonal skills to act as an ambassador for the university. I establish an open line of
communication with SmartCall software between Virginia Tech and alumni, and acquire gifts to
the VT Annual Fund. This experience has taught me how to speak professionally, think on my
feet, and successfully overcome objections. In my first seven shifts of training, I accumulated
$1,500 in donations - the fastest rate and most money a trainee raised for the program.

Balancing academics, being a VT dance team captain/coach, and work experience through
Virginia Tech has not only shaped me into the person I am today but has also prepared me well
for the professional world. I exude confidence in public relations and marketing practices but
still possess a student mentality, always ready to learn and improve on my skills. I manage tasks
simultaneously but keep organized to consistently get the job done. I can work independently as
well as be a team player in a collaborative work environment. I bring an enthusiastic and
energetic personality as well as a hard working ethic to the table. I believe that I can make a
positive impact and will strive to embody the core values and overall mission of your
organization. I hope to hear from you soon!
Best Regards,
Cecile Nguyen
