1st Round Description

Easy questions based on quantitative and verbal ability.

Prepare topics of probability and p&c well. Do not forget to time yourself in the exam.

top 6 unplaced DRs by that time were shortlisted

Global Samsung Aptitude Test

Purely Objective like CAT/XAT
It is renewed annually, so the questions would be different in 2014 for sure. It is fairly easy to crack as one has to clear the cut off which is
manageable if you have a quick and responsive mind.
Nature of questions- 20-30 pure Data interpretation, 10 Quantitative and 20-30 Logical reasoning or decision making.
LR or decision making was actually more difficult.

There were total of 8 questions (50 marks).

1st question was true or false (mainly from the digital).
2nd question was related to setup and hold time for given ckt.
3rd question was from VLSI Design and we have to find the average propogation delay for given ckt.
4th question was to minimize and implement certain digital ckts.
5th question was based on logical reasoning.
6th question was related to FIFO.
7th question was related to linked list and finding error in a simple C code.
8th question was to design a digital ckt which detects alternate 0s and 1s.

Section 1- Write a C code to find the next element of an input series, the series may be AP, GP or Fibonacci,
Section 2- Tech Aptitude (Based on C and C++)
Section 3 - Verbal Ability
Section 4 - Logical Reasoning

The test was basically patterened as CAT conducted by cocubes.com.

It comprises quantative ability, logical reasoning, verbal ability and data interpretation questions.
The result of test was announced in night and they shortlisted 107 candidates for further process next day.

Actually 1st Round was a GD and before that they asked everyone to describe briefly why do u want to join zomato.

It was purely technical subjective test.

Topics covered 1. Opam
2. CMOS
3. Digital electronics (good with combinational and sequential circuits)
4. Fifo depth
5. Verilog (1 question)
6. RLC circuit
7. 1 question was on GPU and microprocessor
8. FSM
9. BJT biasing
10. Mode of operation and finding the Q point of BJT circuits.
11. Set up time, Hold time, maximum frequency, hold slack, set up slack. ( most important)
The paper was very lengthy and difficult. Time duration - 1.5 hours, 15 questions. I did 7-8 questions.

Online Exam- Analytical Ability & Verbal Ability (70 mins)

Analytical Ability- Usual Quant , LR ,DI
Verbal Ability- Just 1 ques where we were given keywords for an email content to be written to certain person. We had to use all those
keywords (with right salutation) and write a 50 word email. Just focus on using correct grammar and all the keywords

The first round consisted of subjective questions...15 in all and 100 marks. There were questions on opapms, bjt, digital electronics (counters,
muxs, etc), vlsi, setup and hold (imp) and a question on verilog/vhdl...please prepare in advance...utilise the 2 months effectively...follow
sedra smith, moris mano, anand kumar, kang/rabaey...remember smart study matters...so do not focus on the formulas but rather the
concepts....

30 questions in 5 mins..purely calculations based..

+1 for every correct ans..no negative marking..16 was the cutoff..
examples- 160% of 20% of 45; 4.095 - 40.95 + 36; quesns based on powers and roots..
94 were shortlisted aftr this round..

There were approx 50 questions to be attempted in 1 hour.

Out of which 20 were apptitude ques and rest were technical.
mostly technical ques included digital electronics

Questions were very simple but covered many subjects of electronics like digital, analog, networking. Last 10 questions were based on
coding and first 10 questions were multiple choice. Negative marking was there.
There was an aptitude section also. It had 50 question which need to be answered in 30 minutes. Questions were simple but to solve
questions all the questions you need to maintain your speed.

Basic C, C++, Java and OS. Easy to crack with decent preparation.

1st Round was GSAT(Global Samsung Aptitude Test). It consisted of two sections:
1. DI: it was lengthy but very easy.(Questions seem tempting but be aware of Time)
2. Aptitude: this sections mainly consisted of puzzles, like paragraph, seating arrangement questions (practice it from RS aggarwal book)

none

Online exam by mettl.com.It included 5 sections.Total time 90 min,

quant-10 ques(good level but easy)
logical-15 ques
essay writing
verbal
coding-one simple code you are supposed to code-commonly string reversals or bit wise arithmetic(count the no of 1's) etc

First round consisted of 2 written tests (objective) - Aptitude and Technical. Aptitude section was very easy and should not require much
preparation. Technical section was of moderate difficulty and covered basics of communication systems , networking . There were a few
questions on analog electronics, satellite communication, antenna ,waveguides and Microprocessors.

Prepare thoroughly about the company. Form contains questions such why you wish to join Ernst and Young, Your achievements,
participation in extra-curricular activities, social work, why you wish to work in the profile you are choosing (there were two choices: IT
advisory and IT risk assurance). These questions are often asked again during the interview.

the first round was not exactly CV based, it was actually an interview round in which we had to describe our technical and other
achievements and the person interviewing us had a set of questions to be asked based on our CV. we were asked about our projects and
internship experiences in detail. Then, were we alright with the place of posting being japan and general HR questions like what were our
near term and long term goals. The profile being web development, networking experiences were given more weight and any kind of web
related experience was seen as a positive experience. A general form with topics like what languages you know and all was given to us
before the interview and the points that were given by us was in short written on the bottom of that form. based on which grades were
provided. Which later on were found to be of very much importance.

Aptitude - Verbal and non-verbal both

-easy
-speed matters

Duration :- 2 hours
Part 1 :- technical

dont stuck with one ques leave it if it's taking time and u need to really good speed for it

Basic aptitude paper, easy questions, ample time.

Subjective written test . Questions from CMOS (setup-hold time, combinational circuits, CMOS based current mirror), Analog electronics
(Opamp), digital (function realization), computer architecture, basic data structures (linked list based question)

There were 3 sections. There were only MCQ questions.

First section consisted of aptitude questions.
Second section consisted of coding questions basically based on algos and data structures.
Third section consisted of questions from courses in syllabyus like from Computer Architecture, VLSI, Communication, Networks.

It was CV based shortlisting.

Based on digital electronics basics, timing analysis, MOS and CMOS circuits

NA

Online test was conducted by amcat on campus.

Sections: (Order may vary)
1. Quantitative aptitude
2. Verbal Aptitude
3. Close Analysis (Questions those check concentration)
Basic 10th level quant, not at all tough. Brush up vocab before the test.
Manage the time well (you get approx 1 min per ques).

2nd Round

Case Study GD
You are given a case study to read and then discuss abou the same in a group of 7.
There are specific questions given in the sheet which you need to answer at the end of the round.
Advice: Try to steer the group in your direction of thoughts.

be very clear with what u have done (ur projects n internships), 8085,8086 microprocessors

Technical Questions related to protocols, computer communication networks, basic digital electronics, basic analog like zener diode and common emitter
gain problems.
A good knowledge of Computer communication,Networking( like OSI model and the famous seven layers of it) and Standard Protocols(IEEE and the like)
definitely help.
This was a cakewalk really. Almost everyone cleared it. After this is the real Elimination round.

No

NA

It was an extempore.
They had 6 panels, and at every panel they had different pattern.
At my panel, they were asking to choose any topic of your choice and speak exact 2 mins with stopwatch.
I spoke about Devaluation of Rupee, and then in end he asked 2-3 questions to me related to it.

Interviews

No

Technical round
Technical profile had two subdivisions- IT services(ITIS) and Engineering Services(EIS). Those who opted for IT were asked coding , IT related questions.
EIS people were asked questions related to their branch, basic coding and background(CV, Projects).Type of questions varied for different people. Some
were asked only HR questions.
Sample questions(ECE): what is a flip flop? difference between flip flop & latch ? Microcontrollers 8085 - architecture? DC-AC converter ?

The second round wad the technical interview...the main areas to focus here are digital and vlsi...

offline written test

30 quesns in 30 mins..+1 for every correct ans and -1/3 for every wrong ans..11 was the cutoff for this round..was a little tougher than expected..had ques
rangin from geometry to numbers to di based on successive interests and rate of return for a particular investment-had 3 to 4 quesns and could be solved
easily with sound knowledge of percentages and simple and compound interest..some quesns on reasoning..some series completion questions that had
figures..need gud aptitude skills to clear this round..
27 were shortlisted after this round..

Second round was technical interview. complete interview was based on operating system and networking ques

no

NO

Second Round was Written technical, depending upon the subject..

ECE paper was very easy. Some questions were from physical layer protocol number for wifi n bluetooth like 802.1, n all.. refer this from wikipaedia..
Other ques were little finger's play. converting binar to hex.. :P

none

After the 1st round there were 4 rounds of interview.

2 technical,1 management nd 1 HR

2nd round consisted of the following :

-15 min online test
-15 min technical test ( Not MCQ; we had to write the answers ; Topics covered were same as that in first round )
- Technical Interview : Questions asked were based on CV; they asked questions based on our projects and work done during internships. They also aske
few basic ques on our favorite subject (eg: what is modulation ? Need for modulation? Define Antenna Gain )
Just be confident while speaking and prepare your CV well (don't mention things you do not know about)

Group Discussion - 10-15 minutes

This round is meant to check your confidence, communication skills and more importantly team work. Its important to listen to others and reach a meaning
conclusion by discussing all aspects of the topic given to you within the said time frame. Its not necessary they'll select students equally from each group.
you don't let others speak not only its going to hurt your chances but the whole group suffers.

The second round was a very hectic round. It was an interview round with a Japanese guy in front of you and a translator to convey anything you say to hi
thus giving you half the time that was allotted for a single person. And the time allotted for single person was around 6 minutes. In this time we had to expl
the achievements and why we should join this company! questions were from our projects and we had to explain our job in it, then it was about internship
experience and then again we had to explain our work to a complete amateur person. This was a fast experience and one should be able to explain their
work in short and effective way.

Group Discussion
Mark Zukerberg- innovator or businessmen
Show Your Leadership skills

technical interview :they asked me two ques in details :1. implement different funtn using mux
likke or and xor
2. cmos invertor
in detail they asked me everything about it

Group discussion, primary focus on confidence, valid points, soft skills

Interview Round (Tech)

I was asked basic CMOS questions ( eg: given a series-cascaded nmos transistor with threshold voltage Vt and Gate voltage Vg what will be the drain to
source voltage Vds at all the transistors). Then few questions relating to transistor sizing with example.. Finally i was asked to explain the working of a CM
based current mirror (asked in written test)

In the second round which was a technical Interview, they asked questions mainly from digital and VLSI.
In digital focus on the apllications of asynchronous and synchronous models, mealy moorey models. They may ask you to implement some circuits and gi
a problem and ask you to solve it in any manner.

Guesstimates

1. Tell me about yourself 2.

why do you want to join ZS 3.
How do you think you can
benefit the company.

As the company is a sales

and marketing consulting
firm, it provided us with
case studies in the same
field. However every
profile (BAA/BOA/BTA)
had different case studies.
BOA: 10-12 pages case
study on how to improve
sales for a particular firm.
3-4 questions were asked
which included analysing
and solving tables (more
or less like Data
Interpretation part of
CAT), some logical
reasoning question and
question based on
personal perspective.
Time provided: nearly 45
minutes.
Is it better for
India having
smaller states
or not. (Based
on the then
recent
Telangana split)

It was followed with a

CASE INTERVIEW which
included Junior Manager
level person grinding you
through the case study
answers you wrote with
the reasons and all.

Since we 200 guys were called on their campus we

werent treated well, no ON CAMPUS advantage was
there. being frm DCE didnt matter anymore. Worst
part was that out of 200 only 14-15 cleared GD and
1 cleared 1st interview and she was selected, the
male to female ratio was 1:30 so it was evident they
wanted a girl only. No PPT was another
disadvantage, many didnt know abt the in hand
amount, n profile on campus n off campus were
different. Be sure to ask all this in the interview

Last round.
Sort of gala round :-P
12 on 1.
It was sort of HR interview, difference was 12 people
were asking and hearing your answers.
Questions were Tell me about yourself,
why do you want to become design engineer?,
If we are selecting you, then who else we should
select and why? ,
If we are selecting 1 only out of you and him, then
whom we should select and why?
Tell me your strength and weaknesses.,
If we will give you a project of making a chip for
BMW (if it is going to be launched soon), then will
you able to take the project alone and complete it
within the time ? , how you will do this?
Then they asked my last 2 sem percentages
And 2-3 more questions, I don't remember now.
what all you need to clear this round is - Don't be
nervous, and your answers should be out of the box
with confidence.

networking since most of the questions in written will
be asked from these subjects only.
2) Have command at one or two subject.

Understand profile and don't answer honestly rather

answer tactfully. I got multiple questions wrong in
technical but they overlooked it because I showed
willingness to learn so do that.
Most important: Show flexibility, they want a guy who
can adapt, they know there is no perfect match

between a job and a person.

what are your near term goals?

Me : working in a stable firm, further developing my
technical skills by discovering new things and doing
researches as well as gaining industrial experience.
* Tip: go through the company background and
listen carefully to the words said in the presentation
or written on RM. This will help you know what
company personals want.
What are your long term goals?
Me : In my long term i see my self at a pretty good
post in a company handling the work with my
experience and further more doing technical
researches on my own.
Why do you want to join our company?
Me: Hikari tsushin is a well established company
with a very matching background of Optical
Communication, which is very much related to my
branch ECE. I started doing programming after i
came to college that too in 2nd year but i became
very fond of its use in daily life. Many ideas come in
my mind that are just waiting for a platform to ride
and as told in the presentation Hikari gives a great
opportunity for such ideas, so i really want to prove
myself useful for this company. Apart from these i
am great fan of Japanese manga and Anime, so i
am very little bit familiar with Japanese culture.
*Tip: If you really want a job all you need is to
convince the person in front of you, and i think in my
first round i left a great expression in the mind of the
interviewer.
