Extra-curricular activities

Extracurricular activities are those that fall outside the realm of normal curriculum of
school or university education, performed by students
Extracurricular activities exist at all levels of education, from 4th-6th, junior high (or
middle school)/high school, college and university education. In broad terms:
The extra curriculum activities are many applicants make the mistake of thinking of
them solely as school-sponsored groups such as yearbook, band or football. Not so.
Most community and family activities are also "extracurricular

The list below provides some examples of activities that would be considered
"extracurricular"

Arts: theater, music, dance, painting, photography, creative writing and other
creative endeavors.

Organizing activity: community outreach, helping the elderly, event


planning, community suppers, athletic programs, teaching or organizing for
summer camps etc.

Clubs: Chess club, mathletes, mock trial, debate, role playing club,
language clubs, film club, skateboarding club, diversity/minority groups and so on.

Community activity: community theater, event organizing, festival staff,


and many other activities that are organized through the community, not the

school.

Governance: Student government, student council, prom committee,


community youth board, advisory boards and so on.

Hobbies: Be creative here. Also, colleges are interested in students passion


whether it be rocketry, model railroads, collecting, blogging or quilting. These
interests show that student have interests outside of the classroom.

Media: local television, school radio or television, yearbook staff, school


newspaper, literary journal, blogging and online journaling, local newspaper, and
any other work that leads to a television show, movie or publication (online or
print).

Military: Junior ROTC, drill teams and related activities.

Music: Chorus, band,orchestra, ensembles and solo. These musical groups


could be through school, church, the community or student personal group or solo
efforts.

Sports: Football, baseball, hockey, track, gymnastics, dance, lacrosse,


swimming, soccer, skiing, cheerleading and so on.

Volunteer Work and Community Service: Key Club, Habitat for


Humanity, tutoring and mentoring, community fund-raising,hospital work (candy
striping), animal rescue, nursing home work, poll worker, volunteer fire
department, creating hiking trails, Adopt-a-Highway, and any other work that helps
the world and is not for pay.

How to Get Involved:


At the beginning of the school year, teachers and principals often have a list of
activities to join or make announcements for example, look on school bulletin
boards and in the school newspaper. Before join some things to include:

Age: Student have to be a certain age or in a certain grade to join an activity

Fees: There are fees for outings, uniforms, costumes, or other


expenses.student may be required to help raise money.

Physical: The student need to take a physical health.

Grades: Many groups require a minimum GPA to join.

Time:

If student involved in competitive sports, he need to have the time to

practice and compete. There's also the time it takes to get ready emotionally
for a game. Team members are often responsible for setting up for a game or
helping in other ways. Clubs can meet as infrequently as once every other
week, but some teams have practice every day after school and meets on the
weekend.

Each school is unique with its own array of offerings, but if student don't find what he
want, try a community center or volunteer for a local nonprofit organization or
business. Also consider organizations like Youth in Action, a group for teens who
want to participate in service projects.

Management of extra-curricular activities:


Extra-curricular management is an integral part of the school
management system.Effective management of schools extra-curricular activities and
its contribution to the academic and holistic development of students are being put
forth. Every teacher in school must be involved in managing extra-curricular
activities, as it is a part of the official duties of teacher. The success of students in the
areas of extra-curricular was not in-born, but had involved due to the implementation
of management by teacher advisory. However, there is still a distinct gap between
the teacher's responsibilities to manage the extracurricular management with
students' success in the field.
Quantity is less important than quality and commitment
Student need to be involved in activities that he enjoy and that he is good at,
and teacher have to requment it to the student.
These activities are set after school time
There should be a large ground to perform extra-curriculat activities.

Learning time management and prioritizing:


One great benefits of student being involved in extra-curricular activities is
that they will learn about management and prioritizing things in their life.as
adult we get very used to juggling a variety of different tasks and
commitments. Students need to learn how to do this as well, getting involved
in these activities can give them some practice at it.
Getting involved in diverse interests :
Getting involved in extracurricular activities also allows students to get
involved in diverse interests.it is important for students to be diverse in their
interests. These activities allow them to explore various interests that they
may have.

Learning about long term commitments:


Students learn about long term commitments when they are involved in
extracurricular activities as well, which is another excellent benefit. Learning
to take on commitments is important, and these activities can teach them
important lesson.

Making a Contribution:
Extracurricular activities allow student to make a contribution in some way. It
shows that they are getting away from just thinking about themselves and
contributing to something else. This is important in their growth as a person.

Raises Self Esteem:


Many times, being involved in extracurricular activities helps to raise the selfesteem of teens. There are many teens that feel worthless or that there is
nothing they are good at. Teens struggle with self-esteem, and these activities
are a way that they can build self-esteem. Everyone wants to find something
that they are really good at, and extracurricular activities provide them with a
way that they can get involved in something and really shine, giving their selfesteem a boost.
Building Solid Relationship Skills:
Students will have the benefit of building solid relationship skills as well when
they get involved in extracurricular activities. Teens need to get involved in
social activities and learn how to appropriate act in social situations and these
activities give them a chance outside of school to do this, while they are still
being supervised by adults.

Importance of extra-curricular activities


Extracurricular students activities are very important due to the following:
Students are an un-excludable and fully legitimate part out of schools
community. They deserve no less attention than anyone else in the
school.
Students achieve practical experience while participating in activities
that are interesting of them.
Students are engaged in useful and challenging activities instead of
bad habits or falling prey to religious or political sects.
