Introduction
Heatbalanceisanimportantexerciseinallhightemperatureprocesses.Heatbalancecanbeusedto
determinethetemperature,theoretically,whichcanbeattainedduringroasting.Knowledgeof
temperatureisusefultotakeadecisionabouttherefractorymaterial.

Inroastingoreconcentrateandcoalaremixedtoconvertsulphideintooxide.Heatgeneratedbyroasting
andcombustionraisesthetemperatureoftheproductsofroastingandcombustion.Thermodynamically
itispossibletocalculatethetemperatureunderadiabaticcondition,i.e.noheatisallowedtoloss.This
calculatedtemperaturecanthenbeadjustedbyincorporatingheatlosses.Weconsideran
