You will create a visual representation that shows the impacts of an extreme weather event
on a local/global marine ecosystem(e.g. a poster, a 3D model a simple animation or
computer model). You can choose the extreme weather event and the marine ecosystem that
has been impacted.
Part B
You will provide a written report outlining the impacts of your chosen extreme weather event
on your chosen marine ecosystem.
Your report will include:
an explanation of the marine ecosystem and its features (food webs, habitats, animals
found there, energy flows in the environment)
an explanation of the extreme weather event (how it formed, environmental factors that
led to it happening, weather patterns)
an explanation of how the extreme weather impacted the marine ecosystem (long term
and short term - animal populations, changes in the structure of the environment,
changes in energy flows through the environment). You will need to make reference to
your model to indicate how your model shows these impacts
an explanation of how the marine ecosystem might recover from the weather event (link
this to scientific knowledge about ecosystems).
Name:
Purpose: Explains how an ecosystem functions and responds to an extreme weather event with reference to
interdependencies between biotic and abiotic components of the ecosystem and energy flow. Explains how the
local environment might recover from the weather event.
